Having boundaries made of steel is a must to protect yourself against narcissits. They wont be able to keep up. Boundaries CLEARLY defined and maintained WILL be your shield in this world. You got this. - Love from a survivor of a narcissistic mother.

In keeping with the idea of keeping a journal of all the ways the relationship is terrible for you, try to change your internal narrative about what you believe the relationship provides. For example, you may *feel* the narcissist sees you but try writing down how they make you feel seen. Mine *seemed* to see me but he never really knew me at all and refused to acknowledge my growth or change during our 8-year courtship. He didn’t *actually* see me-he just went through fake motions of making it seem like he did and my brain projected the rest. You may think the narcissist is meeting your needs but remember they never really have the time or energy (they’re pretty lazy) to really devote to meeting anyone’s needs but their own

Yep, it’s always all about them. They just project their fantasy of us onto us (object relations theory). They never understand who we really are (smoke and mirrors). Journaling really helped me too, especially with the cognitive dissonance.

I’m going through that right now, the thought of leaving him scares me but I must do it before I drive myself crazy. I’ve tried working things out, but he keeps thinks it is all my fault. When I ask him about simple things he argues with me, and never validates my point for anything. The only time we’re getting along is when we have to discuss bills, or I’m the bedroom. I don’t think this is Normal. He lies about everything, even small things.when I bring this up he says that I’m crazy.;(

Perhaps because I didn't choose to live with the narcissist but became pregnant, what made it harder to leave was how it would effect her and that while it wasn't my money, I had some access to it, and that was the most financially lucrative I'd felt my whole life. But to counter that, I'm back in school so I can make way better than my other degree and education provided. In the 6th month out after more than 6 years, it's still quite a headspace I find at times. But months before, to get clear on what was going on, I began recording "discussions". All I need to do is listen to his tone and blaming in that to remember not to go back.
