Nice video guys, thanks. Don't forget, there's also A Victory Complete (Tannenberg) which is neither blue nor red...it's a folio game. :)

We know this game mechanic through MMP's A Victory Lost, which I still think the best in the whole series. These are orginally from Japan Game Journal. And VUCA simulations licensed one title and just released 'Traces of War' which is also very fun, and I think it is more balance between German and Soviet in initiative. Since A victory await simulate East Front campiagn '41, Soviet player has no much to act until the reinforcement appears.

Alexander and Grant, I've been watching your channel and really enjoying your reviews and play through programs. You chaps know your stuff and have brought an old wargamer back into the fold, re-energizing my love of hex and counter games ! Being retired now, I enjoy solo play ( not many players in my neck of the woods ). Thank-you lads for the inspiration!! ....and yes, I've subscribed. Keep up the awesome programming! And btw, Hello from Alberta Canada. !!

Hi guys. Another great video as ever. We played the dull campaign game last weekend with 5 players. Myself and one of the guys managed the Soviets. It was a great intro game to wargaming to 2 of the guys who took the Axis. We managed 4 turns and it took approx 7 hours We mini breaks for pizza etc albeit still confusing turns. We really enjoyed it. I consider myself a rookie still and have predominantly played SCS. I had checked up on tactics to mange the Soviets to attempt to mitigate against early annihilation and ass wupping. We retreated as much as we could. The axis team were v cautious snd this consolidated our ability as the Soviets to by and large retain a cohesive front. Another good point of learning was in how terrain acted like additional Soviet units especially on the Smolensk map. Those marshes and criss crossing streams snd rivers helped hugely. Such a great game. Going to play it solitaire consecutively starting with the Leningrad scenario. Once again you guys ROCK!!!!

I've been waiting on your review to try it out and dip my toes in the hex and counter wargame world, thanks! I'd also like to say that your new style of thumbnail really gives your videos a more polished look. Keep it up!

Love this feedback, thanks! This game is an excellent place to start with Hex and Counter wargames as it’s comparatively rules light and easy to solo for learning.

Sorry guys. If the rule is, "you are halved attacking across a river", then it doesn't need to be said, "you aren't halved NOT attacking across a river". It doesn't matter if they are attacking the same hex. Doubling the defender when attacked across a river is a completely situation and requires extra explanation. Otherwise, a nice job. Another game I have to resist the temptation to buy (until I eventually fail).

The Eskubi counters look like they came from a mid-90’s issue of Command magazine, absolutely awful. Thanks for the look guys.

Which one is best: Russian Campaign or A Victory series?

I've started games of the entire front 3 times, now, and have yet to figure out how to be sufficiently effective as the Germans as to keep Soviet build-ups at Minsk and Smolensk from occurring before the Germans get there.

Played Kiev once as the soviets. Germans have to AGGRESSIVELY breakout quickly and control the railways. Really gotta push hard because by turn 5 the soviet reinforcements are hard to overcome. Germans gotta get onit and get on HARD from what I've seen. All three sections at the same time, should be insane fun.
@darrellhanning5068 Жыл бұрын
@@edackley8595 If by "aggressively" you mean throwing your motorized German units well outside your HQ range, I suppose that's possible, but from what I've seen playing it, that would leave them dangerously out of supply, in an untenable defensive position. I'd just like to see a video of it happening.

Generally it is painfully obvious where the logical retreat is in any game, but in a multiplayer game people are going to try to get any competitive advantage. You can be as detailed as humanly possible and not anticipate every situation. I always play pretty fast and loose with retreat "priorities" except when it comes to honoring ZOC and whether or not the game wants you to eliminate units that can't retreat. Bottom line, it should not be beneficial to the retreater, except accidentally.

Are the games in the red box series interrelated?... Victory Awaits starts in 41, Victory Denies in July 41, and Victory Lost is 42-43. (Funny that the third game starts the earliest, whereas the first game starts the latest)...
@ThePlayersAid8 ай бұрын
They're related in that they use the same system and are all east front games, but not sure there's any rhyme or reason to the dates/release schedule etc.

As a joke I say this is my favorite SCS game…because I feel it’s simplicity is the same level as that series. Oh there you go…talking about SCS. There’s also Narva, Konisberg, Poland Defiant from revolution that use similar rules. Also a couple more that elude me at the moment.
