Nearly four decades later, this song still holds up beautifully. The lyrics are imaginative and original, and the rhyme scheme manages to include couplets like "distracted" and "refracted" instead of overused pairs like you-blue or self-shelf. Instrumentally, I've always loved the guitar riff at 2:17.

I am 53 now but when i listen to this song, i am among all my friends again, all happy, laughing, joking, picking apples....

@kimberlypatton96342 жыл бұрын
Yes! She is her own unique beautiful creation! That's what is SO great about SO many fantastic artists! I cherish that individuality and creativeness more than anything else..prime example : Kurt Cobain and Bowie.Im 62. And when I asked my mother for the LP "Aladdin Sane"( for Christmas that year in 1974) I thought she was going to have a cow! The album cover ( you can Google what it looked like and see) was a stark white background with a fantastically and phenomenally fully made-up as "Ziggy" off to the left turned a bit in his alien suit! Dangerously thin looking almost,with his iconic flame red shag haircut- but a genius to the day we lost his great talent...She said ' What in the hell do you want to listen to "THAT CRAP " for?" To which I replied with "I seem to remember something about you going to see Elvis at the Miami Beach Convention center to his concert"...."and do you remember what YOuR mother said to you about HIM?" All the parents back then tried so hard to keep their daughters from seeing him thrusting his hips on stage,since they were SO SURE it was promoting promiscuity and making them horny and pregnant!.."She later came and sad to me (after a bit of thought!) and said how good the concert was and how much she danced and had fun! And even though Ziggy wasn't her cup of tea, she told me if I liked it then it must be good! Before she passed away in 2008,she told me how much talent she watched his career grow over the years and how much she liked how his music evolved..and she told me how proud of me she was for seeing the greatness in people- that that was what was important! I miss her,and the great lessons we both taught about and learned about from each other.She was a quite a strong and independent,great little bundle..all 4'11" of her,! Perhaps she has gotten to meet him wherever they both rest now!!!

My favourite song of all time. It's 3 minutes of pure joy from start to finish. Nothing is overplayed, oversung or overproduced. Everyone is right in the pocket of the groove being laid down by Steve Jordan on drums, not Martin Chambers as some might think. The song abandons the verse, chorus, verse, chorus formula which is one of the reasons it's so hooky-that the infectious not quite swung, but not quite straight groove. The guitar solo calls back to the melody and isn't flashy at all, but it fits. the mix is exquisite. Nothing jumps out at you and everything is in perfect balance with everything else. The thing I love most about this is the lyrics. We all have someone that makes us see fireworks when they smile or makes us split like light refracted. It's one of the reasons this song endures all these years later. It's not cliche or staid and Crissy's vocal performance strikes just the right tone.

Been a fan of Chrissy and The Pretenders. Have seen them many times down thru the decades. Admire her very much for the strong independent woman she is. Love her music and always will. Love the homage to the T V Spy series The Avengers in this video. Steed and Mrs. Peel

I lived in a small town in a Greek island with no radio stations . Me and my friend used to travel to a nearby hotel to watch video clips in their cafeteria. Music has been my best friend, my biggest dream ...

Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders. - Don’t get me wrong. They are one classy girl band. I enjoyed always listening to their music in the 70’s and they’ve not dated one bit. She’s got what it takes to make a song sound so good. Well Done, Chrissie.

The Pretenders were NOT a girl band. They were a band whose lead singer was a talented writer and singer. All the rest of the members of the band were English men !

Right from the start, it felt like Diana Rigg’s character from The Avengers. To see Steed at the end was perfect. Chrissie and Diana both beat down barriers in their respective careers.
