Thank you for all the assistance with helping me to sort my thoughts and anxiety out in a way that's healthy, and not harmful in a mental way. A lot of times, I berate myself mentally for being "afraid" or anxious about something, or to try or do something, but I need to remember what you said about...okay, so, what would someone without anxiety do?....and then give that a try. You know your stuff, and I appreciate the coping tools.

Separate yourself from it, pinpoint where the filling is located ,often times in your shoulders and in your back and focus on that for a little while but understand that it is not you and know that it will go away. Although I am a Russian person who lives in Russia, I often watch videos related to getting rid of fear and anxiety. And I always write them down in my notebook. And the most important fear is our thoughts . We are afraid of what is not there. Either we are afraid to do something that we don't know, or if we had a negative experience .. Personally, how I motivate myself. I take deep breaths up to 10 times and stupidly go and do not care even if the alarm. And then I write down my feelings in a notebook .. Another thing during a severe panic attack is not reacting on it and staying still. I get the urge to move in a frantic way so while i dont act upon it, it makes it easier to deal. Another major thing is meditation. It helps. You will get through this and nothing bad will happen.

I also hope you know how big it is, being treated by somone who really understand what youre going through, and not just from text books.. I always say the best midwifes have kids ;) I was once told to stop trying to "get rid" of my anxiety, rather I should take its hand and learn to lead it, not follow it.. Always gave me a powerful image. As for what has helped me.. I always find it helps to ocupy your thoughts.. Like with a game, play with your kids/nieces/nephews.. Always liked to have music close at hand, and a shower always helped me too.. Thanks for posting this. And keep up the good fight.

The only thing that has worked for me and has gotten me to recovery is Acceptance and Commitment therapy. I have no control over what my body does, what thoughts come into my head, though I have control over what I choose to do. Over time, those peaks have lessened and lessened. I still have my moments, though I know that they will fade. Attempting to get rid of anxiety only makes it worse, because you are expecting for it to return again so you are on guard for when you may or may not have an anxious moment. Mindfulness isn't about getting rid of anxiety, it's about allowing it to be there and accepting what is, verses what was or might be. People get caught in a loop.

I will tell you my secret - how I will cope with anxiety. I started a diary and write there-appreciate it for the day. Plus, even if I'm afraid to do something, I reread what I wrote out - what I need to do or recommendations when there is an alarm. And how to get rid of it . And I do. Yes, first there is an alarm. But she's not always with you. It's just that we drive our brain into a negative state and this causes anxiety

I had brain surgery in the back of my head, which tends to cause psychiatric issues. Throughout the day, especially when I'm not talking to or with someone, I'll suddenly get a gut sinking, deep anxiety that's triggered by nothing and can seem endless. When that happens, I like to take my shoes off. Lie down. Set a ten minute timer. Fold my hands on my stomach. Close my eyes. Then just. Wait out the ten minutes. I think of it as cleansing my mind and body of all stimuluses. When I get up after those ten minutes, I feel like my body has reset, and I can get moving again. This is my first psych lesson from Doctor Ali, and I feel the video is jam-packed with content he could have spread over ten videos instead of one. I feel that attention to detail rather than quantity really shows how deeply he wants to help the viewer. I look forward to watching more.

Thank you so much for this video! As someone whom never experienced severe anxiety before - the techniques here are really helpful and logical (coming from a psych major myself) - I developed pretty severe anxiety by dealing with daily chest and back pains for the last six months or so - been checked by doctors several times and everything with my heart comes back fine - no physical issues - what they do tell me is that I have an msk issue related to stress and anxiety - they advised therapy and anti-stress drugs moving forward - I am also going to see a physio and chiropractor next week to see what is going on physically here - but it's scary - I get the anxiety attacks basically anywhere and they can last from 10 minutes to up to 2 hours - always thinking I'm going to keel over and die - just terrible thoughts really when the science is telling me otherwise - but the brain can be our best friend and also worst enemy with anxiety - now I know! I will definitely try some of these techniques for sure to get me feeling like a normal human again :)

Sometimes I get anxious without reason. I just feel like there is a major problem. But I think I actually am able to think myself out of this anxiety. I will just stop and really think WHAT is happening or has happened around me that might get me in trouble me in trouble. I will go through what I did in the day, in the week, think about work or my relationships, and I will really think hard about everything around me to see what is wrong. If I can’t think of anything, then I just tell myself everything is alright. I start doing something like the “grounding” technique he mentions. I breathe deeply, listen to my surroundings, and just comfort myself by repeating to myself that everything is allright. I’m fine, I’m safe, everything is fine. And this usually does it. I really calm down. Now, if I get anxious because a real problem is happening. Maybe I didn’t think about it at the time, but it just now popped up in my mind: then I can 1) try to see if there is anyway I can solve it right now. 2) If I can’t, I write it down and make a plan on what to do first thing in the morning. 3) Remind myself that tomorrow morning I will probably not even think it is as a big deal as I think it is right now (as it usually happens to me) and I will either solve it or discuss it with someone to help me solve it. Sometimes this helps me calm down enough that at least I can go to sleep (because this also usually happens at night), and sometimes, I won’t be able to get over it and just accept I will sleep badly but take comfort that tomorrow it will be better.

Hey! I just saw you talk at my school, and you were great! I had a question, but I was 1. Too nervous to get up and 2. We barely had any time. So, my question is: how can I deal with self harm? I’ve been clean for over a year and a half, but I’ve been falling deeper into a pit, and it feels inescapable. It also doesn’t help with the stress of school and social life. I know this is off the main point of the video, but I wasn’t able to get my question out earlier today. Thanks!

I have had this situation for years. Ever since when I was a young child, I experienced separation anxiety or just anxiety in general. I always would feel sick to my stomach or I cry (because that’s what little kids do if they get scared) When I got a phone, things calmed down dramatically because I was aware that I can call my parents anytime I felt unsafe. Everything was fine for a while until I hit middle school. That’s when I had social anxiety. It got worse over the years, and right now I’m a freshman . I’m not doing very well with anxiety but hopefully I’ll make through it soon. Thanks for the coping methods, it helped me a lot 😊 Edit: Just fixing some spelling mistakes

@@junegoodings3973 Be careful what you feed your mind. To feel better reduce negative thoughts and overthinking. Avoid comparing, reduce negative social media and avoid constipation as it affects the mind. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives relief from stress-anxiety. It is very simple. To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed, avoid moving too much and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Never meditate with expectations but with awareness. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. I've been struggling with social anxiety since I can remember. Recently I suddenly realised that I've had enough. I want to go the teraphy but I don't earn enough money and I don't want my parents to pay for it. In the meantime that I put off some money I decided to work on it by myself. For many days I looked on the internet how to deal with it. Most of the videos are about causes for social anxiety but not necessarily how I could actively battle this problem. Today I found this channel and I'm so incredibly greatful. This comment starts my exposure therapy to expressing myself on the internet - the most merciless place in this universe. Maybe someday I could comment not-so-popular opinion in less positive comment section of harsh community. Maybe I could do it not anonymously. Maybe I could stop my fear of everyone judging me for mistakes. I just wish that whoever sees this could also battle his anxiety. I hope that we all have strength to do it.
