Good to see a new one from you. This is not a popular tutorial topic on YT. I've since tweaked your layout to get an extra hat and snare articulation and ruined the 1 and with the right & ee uh with the left technique, so I'm also working on my hand independence. I may remove the foot pedal as it's not essential, at least outside of jazz. The snare I added was a flam because they're difficult to play manually. I was shocked AD2 doesn't have flams (or ruffs), so I use Studio Drummer 3 to practice now.

I spent a fair amount of time on it until I could play it in my first months, really good. Very satisfying once I could play it.

so it's a 5 against 4 accent on open hat then? Sounds so cool. To be honest it's not THAT complicated, but you got to hit those 16th notes right on to get the right feel. Thanks for the video

Good idea! I think the "correction" that takes place at the end of the bar makes this one a little more difficult than an ongoing polyrhythm by the way. That said, playing the ongoing polyrhythm and counting out loud at the same time... that might be my next brainmelter video :-)

The Quest for Groove thank you! I consistently come back to the playlist or the search bar. Helps to keep some things in order. For Patreon what are you live stream timing? Or are they just recorded and uploaded? Curious how much more I could get out of that.
@TheQuestforGroove

@@MexiChriS They're live. I do two streams. One 9am and one 9pm (Amsterdam time) so there's a window for all timezones. They're not live lessons if that's what you're after. I just hang out and answer everybody's questions in the chat. So i do play things but for an actual lesson with diagrams and stuff I need to prepare and therefore those will always be recorded. Live is more "knowledge" and help with how to overcome obstacles and stuff.

@TheQuestforGroove
@TheQuestforGroove 4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't hurt to transcribe it I guess. If you can, it's only extra practice. I do have ' left to right' diagrams for the courses on my website. No traditional drum notation though... I might make a course about that one day, but I can keep the barrier to entry way lower by not making people read actual sheet music.

Will it defeat the purpose if the samples are on different pads?
@TheQuestforGroove
@TheQuestforGroove 4 жыл бұрын
Not really, because the cross rhythm will still be there! It might get a little easier or more difficult but its always good to practice. Do it with a metronome and be very precise. Bury that click!

its a good idea to lay the open hat on a single pad in the middle since usually you don't quickly repeat this sound, but i find it counter-intuitive
@TheQuestforGroove
@TheQuestforGroove 4 жыл бұрын
Thats understandable! I found that the open hihat in that spot is not only economical in terms of sounds its also conveniently placed to play with either hand in combination with kicks, snares and toms.
@TheQuestforGroove
@TheQuestforGroove 4 жыл бұрын
Haha and now I see you said "counter counter Intuitive" which means it feels "intuitive?"
@ColibrisMusicLive
@ColibrisMusicLive 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheQuestforGroove no sorry it was a mistake :) i mean that i find it intuitive to have the open hat on the sides, but this is very subjective. i think your layout has many advantages, i usually play the o-hat with my little finger and have it duplicated on both sides - not economic...
