Watch all the way to the end to see two different samples of this project; one that matches the pattern as written, and one that is double the size! This is one of my favorite patterns from the Moda website when I need a quick quilt to make for someone. The best part is there is not very much cutting. It's easy to pick fabric for it; just find a yard of fabric from your favorite Moda designer and pick up two matching charm packs (Oh, and make sure to get some binding for it too.) The larger size quilt uses two yards of fabric and four charm packs.
Here is the link to the pattern:

I love charm packs! Those cute little bundles of fabric lure me in and make me buy them.
Now I need to start using them before the collection I have overwhelms me! Fortunately there are hundreds of awesome projects that use charm packs to make anything from full sized quilts to baby quilts to bags and more! We will be using charm packs for all of the projects in this series of videos but leftover fabrics from projects cut into 5" squares will also work! Most of the videos will include a sample made from a charm pack (or two or three or more) AND a sample made from leftovers from other projects.
Make your own charm packs! Cut up your stash and create your own charm packs using fabric you already own. One fat quarter can be cut up to make 12 five inch squares. A third of a yard of fabric can be cut up to make 16 five inch squares. When you finish a project, if you have leftover yardage, cut it into five inch squares and start a pile to use for future projects. Have some fun with your stash of fabrics!
The Quilted Forest is located at 205 North Clark in Forest City, IA. Our phone number is 641-585-2438. We stock patterns, books, notions, batting, and fabric for sewing and quilting projects. Our shop is filled with finished quilts and smaller projects to provide plenty of inspiration. We are open Monday - Friday, 10am to 5pm, and 10am to 4pm on Saturday. We are in the central time zone.

Thanks for helping me re-discover this one! I clicked on the link to the pattern and when I went to save it, it turns out I had downloaded it all the way back in 2015, LOL! I've been collecting Fig Tree prints for a BOM project so I think I will start saving five inch scrap squares and then find a yard to go with them for a great "leftovers" quilt!

What a great way to take a bold fabric as your starting point and then use charm squares or fat quarter cut into 5" squares for the fillers. Oh dear another great idea but I must force myself to quilt all the charity quilts in my queue before piecing yet another. Thank you for your channel and love how your emphasis is on more modern designs . There are plenty of other channels doing more traditional designs so please keep with your current focus .

As a self-taught quilter of a few years and not knowing anyone who quilts I still felt I had to achieve perfection. It turned me off quilting for awhile until I realised the only people who will see my quilts are my family. I've some grunge fabric that I've been saving for a while now I'll make the quilt with the vertical rectangles. THANK YOU!

Could you sew the two squares to the rectangle on the long side? Then you would have a bunch of squares. But it wouldn’t line up the same would it? Oh gosh quilting is like a complicated jigsaw puzzle where it looks good no matter where you put the pieces in.

When needing, for example 5” strips WOF, why do you first cut a 10” strip and then sub-cut it into 5” strips? Just curious. I’ve just recently discovered your channel and I love watching 😊❤ I have a LOT of fabrics, beautiful, beautiful fabrics, only to find SO MANY MORE, whether I’m watching a quilting tutorial or a walk into a quilt store. It is amazing to me how much creativity has gone into our art of quilting. I love it ❤❤ One more thought, It always amazes me how you can take a simple pattern and turn it into such a gorgeous quilt, merely by the choice of fabrics which in this case do all the work. Just another thing about quilting that I love.

I am finishing up this quilt today. I had directional fabric and so I had to modify the pattern a bit. Used Christmas charm packs and a matching yard, with some additional boarders. Great, easy pattern for a rainy day weekend. I will be binding it with minky and sending it to my sister for the holidays:) I absolutely love all of these series. Just like you, I have excessive amounts of 2.5 inch strips and probably too many charm packs as well. So I appreciate the new ideas each month and look forward to them! Thanks so much!!!!
