Hi Buddy, owned two of these for years. They were the cats meow in their day, but by todays standards they drift constantly. LC oscillators with no PLL. Can't help but drift. Not to mention they take up a ton of bench space, weigh a ton and use a lot of power.
@TheRadioShop9 ай бұрын
Good to see you man. I know you are living the dream over there. Yep, they do drift for sure. Thanks for stopping in.

It Alive 😂 Bumble Bee caps! I learn something new from you every time. I thought I saw the gigantic HP spectrum analyzer on the back bench 😮 May you and your family have a peaceful Easter. 😊

Yep, another big heavy beast I need to start on.

@@TheRadioShop I believe you got that running. Imagine a wall full of operating antique HP test equipment. Buddy's Antique HP Museum. 😎

Solid HP signal generator. It weights in at 62 lbs! Must change out the old wax paper bumblebee caps. Great video there buddy. Shipping these out will be costly.

Thanks, yes very heavy to ship

What a beast. In my (limited) experience with old HP gear, it usually doesn't take much to have them in great shape again.
@TheRadioShop9 ай бұрын
Well built units.

I was hoping you would open one your collection of these. I see that it will be a fair amount of work to get mine up and running. Thank you for sharing.

They are not bad to work on, just takes up so much room.

Hello there Buddy, thanks for the video. Never heard of Bumble Bee condensors before. Always learning something new from your videos. Thanks and God bless.

I had one of these years ago and have regretted getting talked out of it ever since! Yes, they are large, but once it's warmed up it is ROCK solid, accurate and dependable. As long as you check the calibration once a year it's good to go. Mine even had the water proof pressure compensated shipping case still with it.

I really like these old generators. I've done a few German units but have yet to try a HP. Really chunky inside!

Well heck Buddy, if you keep 'em around you can weigh your shop down so it won't blow away in a storm! ;-) 73 - Dino KLØS

Those are awesome older units..... I could have gotten one for just the shipping , from NY state that would have cost about 100 bux .... I could have gotten some other things for the same deal .... I waited until I got the HP 8656B ,,,, now I need a LM338K regulator for it , It's in the place of the 5 volt regulator .... Why ? I have no idea ... Take Care Mon Ami ....

The coil, which seems to be bent is part of the design. In my project, i also found this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6LalHmQat6Apa8 My guess is, that this was made to reduce the magnetic coupling to the shielded case. (only my guess.....)
