The craziest thing about Udo is he sounds EXACTLY the same as he did 40 plus years ago. No metal god - not Rob Halford, Geoff Tate, Paul Stanley or even Brian Johnson sound as good as their youth, but Udo is older than all of them and he sill sound identical to the records. He is the best freak of nature ever. See him live, he does not disappoint!

What Accept did,is truly remarkable. They lost their iconic frontman,a death sentence for every band and were pretty much done. Then they return with a new singer, who not only does a fanastic job, singing the old material but also breathed new life into them and they manage to crank out new albums, that are actually quality stuff, like their classic output, plus they kick arse as a live band, playing with more energy, then bands half their age. Seriously,if you have the chance to watch them playing,go for it,they're amazing live. One of the greatest comebacks in rock/metal history, not doubt about it. EDIT: I just read that Peter Bartels left the band, after over 40 years, that is a big blow for Accept, the guy pretty much co-wrote all the classic songs with Wolf and Gabi Hoffman.

Couldn't agree more. In 2010, when I saw a new Accept album had been released I was skeptical. After all look what happened the last time, it didn't quite work out and they asked Udo to come back. But wow was I blown away with Blood of the Nations. It exploded out my speakers like a nuclear blast. I started to listen to them again and haven't looked back since.

I also was very concerned about Accept when I found out that Peter Baltes left the band. Then Too Mean To Die album finally came out, and I was very impressed with how amazing it turned out to be. I have listened to it many, many times since it was released, and I love it more with every listen. So far it is Album Of The Year for me.

The reason Peter left is because he found out after all these years he was just a hired gun and not an official member. That angered him so he left to join UDO.

Great point about modern Metal production. I absolutely love a big, crisp, expertly hyped modern sound, but the polish, the clarity, and the evenness rob richness and breath. I was just checking out "The World, The Flesh, The Devil" last night by In Solitude and while it's got clear, controlled production, there was a bit of Mercyful Fate/Helloween there and I really liked that. Great update.

Glad you didn't forget Wolf's wife, Deaffy, the band's primary lyricist since *Balls to the Wall,* also known as Gabby Hauke/Hoffman. "Gaby Hoffmann (née Hauke; born in Berlin, Germany) is primarily known as songwriter under the pseudonym Deaffy and manager for the heavy metal band Accept. She has also contributed cover art concepts, marketing ideas for the band and even stage moves and wardrobe. She is married to their guitarist Wolf Hoffmann."

I was born in '78 and have memories in the mid 80's being a very young kid in the mall with my Mom, grandma (Yiayia R.I.P.) and brother being bored to death in some clothing store. A TV on the wall had MTV on and some guys banging their head against a building - forcing it to collapse. Even at that young age, I thought it cheesy, funny and awesome at the same time. It left an impression because I never forgot it. In the late 90's I got into Accept while looking for old school metal, but while I knew the music and certainly the song "Balls To the Wall," it wasn't until KZbin about 30 years later where I realized as a young kid it was the damn "Balls To the Wall" video I watched that day. Accept fucking rules, love this video. "Starlight" is my favorite Accept song. Udo's vocals and those twin guitars get me every time.

I saw accept in 1983 opening for kiss in New York City's Radio city Musical hall. I was there to see kiss but they blew kiss off the stage and I was shocked to see 50 percent of the crowd in black leather jackets with accept plastered across the shoulder blades and the when they played balls to the wall I felt the music hall shake with the entire crowd singing along and stopping their feet. Unreal, you had to be there. Became my new favorite band that night! Also saw them blow Ronnie James Dio off the stage in Madison Square Garden on the Sacred Hart tour. Udo's voice was like a thunder storm filling the Arena as compared to Dio's light rain shower that was very hollow and could not cut through the huge Arena. Again the opener got the biggest pop of the night with Balls to the Wall. It was awesome to also see them perform heaven is hell in a sold out 20k seat Arena.

Good point about the Death Row CDs being rudely overpriced these days. I was for several years short of one to complete my Accept collection; for a long time it was practically a daily routine going on eBay and Amazon to search for a copy for an acceptable (pun intended) price, and it eventually paid off. It cost no more than a new CD, but it took years to get there. I even have Eat The Heat and Predator, but only because it´s Accept. What a band!

My introduction into Accept was the old USA network show "Night Flight" which showed the video for "Midnight Mover". I bought the album "Metal Heart" shortly thereafter and then saw them live at the Hollywood Palladium in May of 1985. Good times.

This episode of Metal Mythos got me back into Accept when it was originally done almost three years ago. It also got me into U.D.O . I love every Accept album, especially Restless and Wild, Balls To The Wall, Metal Heart, Russian Roulette, Blood Of The Nations, Stalingrad, Blind Rage, and The Rise Of Chaos. I really love the Animal House album from U.D.O., but it is technically an Accept album. I do love a few songs from Eat The Heat, but I love everything on Animal House big time.

"Heidi heido heida" was used as a soundtrack to a documentary film on the German invasion of Poland that from 1945 till today every schoolchild in Poland had to watch in class. Probably, in France it's unpopular because of a similar reason ...

Hey Razor, here's a little history note I hope you'll enjoy. To explain to anyone who may be wondering why Heidi Heida gets booed off the stage in Poland, between 1945 and about 1970 the Polish film industry had a thing where in historical dramas characters spoke their appropriate language. In a WW2 movie that translated to actors who spoke decent Russian cast as the Red army, actors who spoke decent English cast as the British and of course actors who spoke German cast as the Germans, at least for major spoken roles. You also had plenty of extras to make up the necessary numbers, who were monolingual Polish. The chorus for Heidi Heida is really easy to teach to extras for a "German troops singing and drinking at a bar" scene, to have the entire place erupt into song. I can't give you titles off the top of my head, but Polish WW2 movies got a lot of mileage from Heidi Heida, which lead to an association with Nazi thugs in the minds of a good chunk of the population. I think you can see how well Udo singing that in camo gear would go down, knowing how the song was used for about 30 years. I know the song is far older than that, but a lot of people sadly don't. I'm not here to defend that association, merely to explain it.

Great episode....Accept is an amazing band. I always wish they would have located Jorg Fischer for the reunion. Great guitarist. One thing of note about the 'Animal House' album. If you listen closely the track "Lay Down The Law" sounds different sonically than the other tracks....and I am pretty sure it is Accept that performs on that song. The rhythm guitars sound like Accept. The lead licks sound like Wolf and the solo sounds like Jorg.

@@DokkenSabbath ....Yeah I asked Matthias Dieth from U.D.O. if it was actually Accept on that song and he confirmed it was. Apparently Accept recorded some of those songs from the 'Animal House' album as Accept before Udo left. The record company decided to put one of those recordings on the album. The whole album was written by Accept and was intended to be the follow up to 'Russian Roulette'.
