Buying a car for commuting should be based on: reliability, cost, maintenance costs, gas mileage. I bought a 2016 Honda Civic and have racked up 162000 miles on it. I have a 2001 F-150. She's still my everyday ride. I had to put on a new fuel pump and brake lines but other than that just regular maintenance. I've changed one spark plug in 23 years. I bought it from a friend who bought it new, she only had it 9 months and had to have the (back then) new mustang. She totaled the mustang in the first month when she mis-shifted on a curve and spun out, ran into and flattened a tree on a berm, went airborne, took out a chain link fence and smashed into the side of a brick garage. 23 going on 24 years later I'm still driving that truck she sold me. She ended up underwater on the mustang so she had to by an old beater to drive until she paid the mustang balance off. The webs we weave. Best part is no one ever messes with it because they think it's just a POS. She's never let me down. Very comfortable for trips.

Cars are a waste of money! Whether that car costs $1k or $100k, they both do the same thing: Take you from point A to point B. Why would you choose to have a more expensive method of travel when you can do it cheaply? Save up, buy cash👍

Yup, yup, yup. Agree, agree, agree. People act like everyone is going to bed at night saying, "Joe has a nice car. I wish I was Joe. Good night, wife." Then the next night they go to bed and say, "Joe's has a nice car. I wish I was Joe. Good night, wife." Night after night. In reality, no one is really thinking about your nice car, except me. Even after all these years Dave's "emotions have mot caught up". It's not because they still need to "catch up", its because he still has insecurities/traumas/whatever to do with that time. Even the smallest thing can affect a child or any adult. You can shift these things. But its not jsut by waiting. Do your "inner work". Even basic common therapy isnt necessarily going to help, cause thye dont do a lot to actually relieve these trauma reaponsed in the body. Anything that activates the fight/flight/flee response is a traumatic experience. It doesn't have to be a dramatic wxtreme scenario.

I bought a 55,000 car last year when I was 24. Its electric and I have a long commute. I tried to look for a used one but there was nothing in my area. I saved for 2 years to get it, put down 30k for it and paid it off in 6 months. The car market was in a really bad time so I do wish I had waited it out a bit more and gotten a cheap car to start. Though overall I am very happy with it and plan to hold it for 10+ years. Saved 1.5k on gas so far. Hopefully that will get even better as time goes on.

U got lucky also, you would not be so happy with your decision if the tranny and radiator went bad in your 150k mile 15 yr old car after 4 months and your bill was $2990. Your gamble has paid off, alot don't. Also u could be a single person who drives 5 miles to work. Would u buy that old car if you had to drive 70 miles round trip and have to take your young children around in the rust bucket. Problem with these Ramsey people and I agree 90 percent with them, their car advice is not 1 size fits all like they make it seem. A new car with peace of mind is worth 1000s to me, others maybe not
