Heilung Interview at Download Festival - Healing and Connection

At Download Festival 2024, RAMzine had the opportunity to chat with Kai Uwe Faust and Maria Franz from Heilung. This experimental folk music ensemble features artists hailing from Denmark, Norway, and Germany. Their unique sound draws inspiration from ancient texts and runic inscriptions of Germanic tribes dating back to the Iron Age and Viking Age.

Saw Heilung at Red Rocks earlier this year, best show I have ever been to in my life. ❤ Seeing them made me cry for the first time since burying my mum less than a month before the show. I needed it. Love them so much.

The amount of energy they bring up during their rituals is IMMENSE. It literally free flows into the crowd and it's breathtaking to witness in person. I always have BIG emotional/mental breakthroughs after a Heilung ritual. I am grateful for the Good, Big Work they are doing.

Absolutely the best band I've ever seen. I saw them at download and then left the festival as no other bands would come close. Wish they played on Sunday night instead 😂

I saw them in Clearwater, Florida Oct. 2023 & Red Rocks Colorado in April 2024. I absolutely LOVE Heilung!! I love Maria's voice, it is so amazing! This band comes together beautifully with all of the different sounds and voices. They are a true gem! And they are absolutely right about HEALING. I am so glad I found them because I fell 100 feet from a paragliding accident in Colombia South America and somehow I survived because of the drag from my paragliding wing, but my bones were all broken and the recovery and pain and depression was the worst after being such an active person. Heilung's music really ignited healing and determination within me. I am eternally grateful to Heilung. I hope one day I can meet them in person and personally thank them! 💜💙❤️🤍💚🤎🩶💜

Maria is Norwegian from Borre on Oslo fjord near the grave mounds. Kai is German. Not sure Norway and Germany have the same ridiculous class system as England. And since English is the second language for both of them, please excuse them for not sounding like they grew up on a council estate in Manchester.
