Marshall is a bad guy and very hateful himself. They uncovered brute tweets he was making about women and he went on an apology tour on TikTok last week . it's worth exploring Marshall's feelings towards Jackie, especially since he viewed her as a "project". This sheds light on Marshall's motivations for staying in the relationship, even after receiving warnings from Jackie. It may be helpful to understand why Marshall was drawn to the idea of "fixing" Jackie and what this meant for their dynamic .

I was cringing every single time she mentioned them having babies. Isn’t that like a known thing that that can be a sensitive topic for people & that we shouldn’t ask about it? I’ve had 1 friend who had a miscarriage who shared how uncomfortable & sad it was for her to have people ask about having babies while she was going through it & I’ve never asked people about it again (unless they bring it up first). Yes! My sister had a miscarriage, it was such a difficult situation they had NOT been trying, her youngest was not quite 2 and she had a lot of trouble conceiving her. They just hadn't gotten around to getting a vasectomy yet.. they were shocked and really worried about the financial and emotional strain (not to mention the geriatric pregnancy) but they had just gotten over the shock and were adjusting to the excitement (hey at least they hadn't gotten rid of all the baby stuff yet!) When she lost it. There's pain but also relief, and SO. MUCH. GUILT and SHAME. We as a society have decided it's just best not to ask, some people missed the memo.

Jackie had mentioned in the pods that she was raised "hard." She goes out of her way to hide when she's crying or sad. Her "sad" feelings seemed to translate into anger and shutting down. When we're raised in an environment where showing feelings or vulnerability is unacceptable, you shut down your feelings instead of showing them. I think she felt seen and validated by Marshall because he's great at creating a safe space for her to be vulnerable and supported. However, we go back to what we're familiar with. She was probably really uncomfortable with having someone support her because she wasn't used to it. I know from experience I had a hard time being ok with someone comforting me because I always wondered when they would "leave me" or not wanting to get "dependent" on someone's support because I told myself it was weak to need or want it. I hope she and Marshall find happiness; whatever that looks like for them.

That's still not an excuse to treat people like yeah okay? Let's not excuse people for acting antagonistic and mean to other people, please. I've met people who've been through some traumatic things from their childhood and upbringing who could've turned out as horrible adults to others but instead CHOOSE to be kind and have so much humility and compassion. Myself included. So I beg! Not just you but other people who think the same way as you to STOP making excuses for people who've had past traumas to test people so horribly! Because it's not okay AT All. I hate that for real. We're all accountable for our actions and they kind of people we choose to become especially towards others. Ad much as what Jackie went through or still is going through is hurtful, so is the way she's treating Marshall and She's very much AWARE of it.

For the reunion, when Nick was asking the question to Kwame, "Are you surprised by some of the reactions out there from people who are shocked and surprised that you didn't say no..." and then Chelsea answers assuming that question was for her and made it about women's empowerment. Do you think that question Nick asked was for Chelsea or Kwame? Acted incredibly cruelly towards someone who was very kind and loving, especially, with her. And Vanessa really isn’t the proper host. She’s truly mean. She did that to Cole on the previous season and now to Paul and (to the viewers desperation) to Marshall. It was hard to watch and it ends up ruining the fun. Ugh I’m soooo thankful you mentioned your thoughts on Vanessa and Nick. I very much so thought the same exact things. It just seemed so malicious on Vanessa’s part and I feel like Nick was just there and wasn’t adding anything into the reunion. Part of me gives Vanessa grace because maybe she was told to do that to get the heat off of Josh and Jackie due to all the death threats they were getting but, she didn’t have to make Marshall not feel heard or look bad. The reunion felt like I was watching a season of love and hip hop and not something that’s focused on really connecting with people. It was kinda tacky and not really well put together in my opinion.

Vanessa is SUCH a girls girl, if you realize she basically only backs the women on the show. As in girls supporting girls to the extreme sport level and i agree that she cared more for the drama than the actual couples, especially this season so we get really poor questions asked, basement level journalism. Furthermore asking about babies when they were clearly uncomfortable? yeesh a tad tacky, and as the host of a dating/ marriage show she has to know that that is a sensitive topic

@@StephAnya girl, I was agreeing with you so much as I watched! (I’m a therapist too :) ). You were so so solid in your assessment and I agreed with so much of what you said. Jackie tired me the HECK OUT!! Marshall did NOT deserve the way this relationship went and ended AT ALL, and the reunion didn’t help it at all, between the video from the couple and the way Vanessa treated Marshall? S T U P S E !! Foolishness!! Vanessa was so distasteful in more than one instance! Marshall isn’t perfect - none of us is, but I really don’t get the Marshall hate. That man is one of the most emotionally intelligent, gracious, and honourable persons I’ve seen on TV, especially as a Black Man. & as for the past tweets people have been coming at him for - that was like a decade ago; so very much can change in that time frame. It’s been an interesting circumstance of seeing how differently people can assess and interpret things for sure when it comes to how people view and feel about him. Thank youuu for your thoughts and insights sis! 🙏🏾🙏🏾

💯 spot on, in all of your assessments! Especially the part about Vanessa giving a terrible interview and not aiding in providing any closure for Marshall. Nothing was resolved for him, no clarity at all.

Thank you Steph Anya for this video. I have a question. I feel like the phrase 'I take full accountability' was used like a crutch by the people being called out. What do you think accountability looks like? Did you believe everybody that used it in the reunion?

This is a great break down of their relationship. From a man’s perspective, he loved her much more than she loved him, and that is often a killer of relationships.

You made me think when you mentioned she needed him to be mean and apologize to feel safe because it felt like that familiar disfunction. I find as the “fixer” in relationships that I have to get raw and revert back to actions I see as toxic to give myself a place to say “I’m sorry” from. It gets exhausting when the other person is always wrong and I never get opportunities for growth or correction. Your comment made me rethink that pattern. Love your commentary!

Love your breakdowns and insight!!! It’s so enjoyable to listen to and see what you pick up on and how you weave the connections of everything. I’d love to see Kwame & Chelsea and also Irina, Zach, Bliss… and Micah/Irina and Tiffany and Brett… For other content I think it would be interesting to hear a video about the struggles of moving on from a relationship even when you are the one who decided to end it. The guilt and doubt that can come with it and any tips for moving on. Another video … how to approach dating in these modern times when you’re in your mid to late 30s. Another interesting breakdown video would be other shows or movies with a focus on dynamics, like White Lotus 🤩

I dnt watch the shows but I stumbled across the topic from Facebook and wanted to see what was all the fuss about. I did not intend to watch your video and have it break down the triggers in my last situation but knowing the triggers and doing exactly what you said Marshall did just reinforced my own thoughts of course of navigating that situation. In my own saying “sometimes you gotta break your heart to save your soul”. You did a great job of analyzing and breaking down this couple. Ole boy will find someone to reciprocate pouring into him like he do her and he’ll be better off

@mayarandolph8788
@mayarandolph8788 Жыл бұрын
Exactly! I was a bit disappointed because she never talked about colorism or anti-blackness and they played a huge role in their dynamic (and even how Vanessa approached Jackie). If Jackie acted the same way, but was darker or unambiguously Black, there would be more backlash against her by production and the show. Colorism doesn't just impact the Black community but how pocs are treated by white establishments. I say this as a social work PhD student and I cannot ignore the racial/cultural context of "successful" Black men wanting to be attached to non-black or light skinned pocs as a status marker That also probably plays into why she is so okay with being trash and lacks self awareness.

@@mayarandolph8788 everything you said was so true and now that I think about it, it may be the reason him and Tiffany didn’t work. They always want something “spicy “ and different but it all comes down to when your preference don’t prefer you and that’s what Marshall got
