With assassination being in the news last week, I take a look at three infamous assassinations where the killer didn't mind getting up close and getting his hands dirty. No long shots from sloping roofs here.... these killers got in close to do the job...

My family has a wakizashi (short katana) as a family heirloom, probably a hundred years old; I'd been interested in sharpening tools recently, checked out the sword and even after all these years it was shaving-razor sharp, way better than anything I could do at the time. If Yamaguchi's blade was similar, a single strike could do immense damage. I was handling it like I would a loaded firearm or unexploded bomb
@fwfs
@fwfs Ай бұрын
The last part of Yamaguchi's last message ("Would that I had seven lives to give for my country!") is a reference to Kusunoki Masashige, a famous samurai who died in 1336. Seen as an exemplar of loyalty, he is believed to have said that before his death. In a way, very similar to Nathan Hale's last words "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country," before being executed by the British during the American Revolution. (although it's unlikely Hale was referencing Kusunoki Masashige.)

The assasinations of Swedish Primeminister Olof Palme 28th February 1986 and Swedish Foreign minister Anna Lindh 10th September 2003 could both also be on this list Whilst Palme was shot from point blank outside the Cinema whilst next to his wife. Anna Lindh was Knifed down in NK shopping center.

@@cmc2550 Yes; the graphic (dramatic drawing) in this video even clearly shows the assassin with an ice axe. It's much more dramatic than sneaking up on someone and plunging an ice PICK into him XD. Oh and there is a picture of the actual weapon at the end of the segment too.

Japan has never expressed gratitude for the tens of millions of Japanese citizens that were spared by the nukes. The Emperor likely would not have surrendered until Japan was a smoldering graveyard. I’ve often wondered if the nuclear proliferation that followed WW2 might have saved many lives and prevented more wars. It’s definitely come close to ending us all, and annihilation remains a threat today. The really horrific result has so far been the forever chemicals that lurk inside every person and everything on the planet. Gotta love that Teflon.
