Your title is correct. Many fisherman have found Cats dead because the bait they chose killed them. I even hooked up to a super hard fighting fish. After being hooked up for around 35 minutes, it became obvious that the Cat had gotten itself wrapped around a tree or a snag, and I needed someone to run my boat, or I would need to transfer to another boat and see if I could free my line. I noticed a boat heading upstream just above the Cooper Nuclear plant on the Missouri Rivers. I started blowing on my whistle and waving my arms and saw the other vessel turned towards me. I explained the situation and the other boat driver invited me aboard along with my gaff, and snag remover contraption. So when the driver moved the bow where I was and had the line straight up and down, so I then began to furiously began to pound it he rod up and down I noticed that the line had come free, but realized that I couldn’t notice a fish on the end of the line. I figured it may still be snagged, but the line continued to come up and that was when I noticed I had a flathead of around 10 lbs on the line. I felt totally embarrassed and that my helpers had looks on their faces that said there is a fishing guide who is a real amateur. It was only after my helpers had left that I noticed that there was something peculiar about my flathead. It was so roughed up on the outside and that it’s body was like it was completely pulverized. It was like an artists modeled the Cat out of silly putty and it was then I realized that my original Cat had been swallowed by a larger catfish because I never had a Flathead ever give me such fight while I was using a large 8ft boat rod, supporting a Penn 309 loaded with my favorite 30lb test Anderson line. This was the first time I had such an experience before. Now I have had plenty of sharks start eating gamefish I had tied off alongside the boat, but as I say, this was my first time with Cats inhaling other cats... a 10 pound flathead is a large bait. ... and if I could get access to a Ten pound Chubb or other live baitfish that large, all cat guides would kill to keep it for their own fishing, but remember... a twelve pound flat would definitely go for a ten pound flathead.
@RiverCertified5 жыл бұрын
That's an awesome story. I've had that happen shark fishing, but never with cats. Thanks for passing that one on! You're the man!
@nebraskatpp5 жыл бұрын
I need to check my narratives a little more carefully. The auto correct overrides my preferred line of choice , ‘Ande’ versus the posted Anderson.

It never ceases to amaze me the size baits they will eat! I had a 14# take a 1# bullhead this year! Catfish Dave said in a video (or something to this effect) when they get a HUGE meal they can be lazy for a few days. I believe this is one reason the really huge Flathead are hard to get to bite consistently. This made a lot of statistical sense to me. It also make sense to fish the same (somewhat productive) spot day after day to up your odds of catching that monster feeding. Just a "theory". What the heck do we really know anyways? Well besides they like to eat! ;) Happy Fishing! Great video!
@RiverCertified5 жыл бұрын
Agreed all the way around. Mh main strategy is figuring out where multiple fish are likely to converge to bump up my odds, cuz I agree. I dont think they eat everyday. Thanks for watching all the videos you do!

When you start throwing big sinkers and bigger baits you can really crank them down, and then it's easy. At least as long as you are not going for maximum distance.
