I have a 2023 GS Adventure Trophy. I also think the bike rattles way more than any bike should. The quickshifter was terrible from day one. I only have 700 miles on it. Now 4-5 or 5-6 is tolerable: won't pull your hands off the handlebars by accident. Sometimes the quickshifter won't work at all. Hopefully it will improve over time.

I don’t think your allowed to own a GS if you tell the truth like that. Didn’t you know. There is nothing to see here. Best gearbox in the world. That leaping you into the next post code when you change gears is normal. Those rattles are just engine character. 😂 Have a good Easter mate

It’s not about the RPMs but acceleration. E.g. if you’re holding 5k rpm and trying shift it’s going to be clunky af. If you’re accelerating through then it’s fine. Yes it takes some getting used to 🤷‍♂️

After you've established that the 1-2 shift should be by clutch (as recommended by BMW) you spend the rest of the video using the quickshifter between 1-2 and then constantly complaining about it. It's almost frustrating to watch.
@thefika
@thefika Жыл бұрын
Its pretty clear this gearbox is not meant have a Quickshifter. Works 1st to second on every other bike. For what its worth the BMW guy told me I could change 1st to second after 5K RPM. It still sucked like that. Pretty stupid to have a quickshifter you have to clutch the first two gears.

Let's see if I have this right. You spend what $27,000 + for the BMW expecting a superior and bullet proof machine, but what you're actually paying for is not a superior machine that shifts like butter in all gears, and has a power plant that makes noises like it should have the words Allis-Chalmers stamped on the side of it. However you can say, "I have a BMW". BTW these things are not the most dependable machines in the world either. What can I say ? BMW, insert it where the sun doesn't shine. I'll take my Yamaha any day of the week over das Schnobbincycle.

I've a 2021 R1250GS with the quick shift.... a couple of things (I think!). You're riding around at steady 50kph in 1st. I use 1st for moving away only, doubt I ever use it otherwise. I'd be at bottom of 3rd gear at 50kph. If I'm feeling lazy I could even stay in sixth as low as ~65kph. It's a "grunt" engine, not a "rev" engine. I've no idea which is right or wrong, just an observation. I only use the quick shifter under hard acceleration or deceleration, and never between 1 and 2. I think sometimes we confuse "quick shift" with "automatic" - but I've not ridden any other manufacturers versions so maybe my expectations were lower? Thanks for the vid. And you're wrong about me being old, fat and bald. That's my wife, not me.

The point of the quickshifter is to get up to speed quickly. If you are slowly getting up to speed, the gears are going to be jerky because you're not moving QUICKLY enough. If you want to use the quickshifter correctly hammer the throttle and bang through the gears to get up to speed, otherwise use the clutch or use my tip below. Tip: If you're at slower speeds and want a smoother shift using the quickshifter, hammer the throttle and shift up, then let off the throttle immediately. (This is a very quick motion)

The point of the quick shifter is to change gears without a clutch. KTM 1290 A, MultiStrada V4 and Tigers 1200 Quick shifters are great doing exactly what I was doing on the GS. I was not getting leaped into the next postcode like on the Gs. The question is Why can’t BMWs GS quickshiter not work as good as the others? I wonder why there’s not a previous study of the bike before a test! If you took some minutes to read the bike’s book you would understand that the quickshifter has a way to be properly used! Basically, up gears with accelerator on. Down shift is only with accelerator off or, in case of reduction for fast accelerating, accelerator full or almost full on. If you do this, the use Will be just fine. On mine works flawlessly!

If you like BMW motorcycles but the boxer engine for any reason doesn’t fit well with your personal taste of riding or concept of it it’s only fine. There are other engines available like the four in line or six in line engines of other models of the brand that you can choose, with different gear boxes too along with smoother and fast quick shifter devices that are in pair with the best offers in the Market. Although , the boxer engine is a proven well built apparatus and it has a vast popularity amongst technicians , mechanics, bikers and bike owners all over the world. Are we all wrong? Is it even the right question? There’s nothing wrong about the engine itself or all the people that like it’s character, but of course, it is not the best at everything and it will depend on what are we analyzing. I only can say that subjective impressions have to be accepted but they are important just for the ones who get that specific impressions. My personal opinion, for instance, is very different from the opinion of the author of this video, because I like the sound it makes, I like the way it works and I even like it’s limitations. Yes I’m a fan of the boxer engine. There are better sounding engines on the Market? Yes, I think that there are, maybe plenty. But for me, on a overall viewpoint I very much appreciate the boxer engine, agricultural or not, it pleases me. If I have other choices than BMW bikes it’s not because of the boxer engine that I consider a plus for a bike but other reasons. I love some parallel twins like the ones that Triumph uses. The Cp3 from Yamaha is a fine and well engineered propulsion unit , the LC8 from KTM is fantastic. There are excellent engines on the Market and maybe or certainly smoother and better sound appealing , but of course a bike has its purpose and the engine being a very important part of it, it is not the whole bike. I said my piece. Thank you for sharing and for the video ✌️✌️

I’ve never known anyone to be such a winger about a bike he shouldn’t have bought. Why bother when you don’t like the look or the sound and only complain as you didn’t read the manual or ask advice.
@thefika

Who hurt you? What is a winger? I was having a laugh about it. Not crying like you. I said many good things about this bike. Why are you crying that I have some criticisms? Am I not allowed to have an opinion? Why are you so childish that if someone says something you don't agree with you have a cry? I have the manual. I read it. It does not say anywhere don't use the shift assist in 1st > 2nd > 3rd. Who should I be asking for advice? The Bozo's that say it say don't use the shift assist in the first few gears because it says it in the manual, when it doesn't? Or the fools who have not read the manual and just repeat that erroneous line. Because they read it online or heard it on youtube? Stop making excuses for poor engineering. Its a well known fact the quick shifter sucks on the GS. Deal with it.

You look about 7 foot tall on that GS, I'm 6 foot and I'm tip toe on my GSA and I have a lower Rallye seat, plus suspension set on low, you are flat foot with bent knee's how the heck can that be? lol

@@thefika My inseam's about the same as yours but I can't flat foot at all not even with the lower seat and suspension set on low. On another note I've heard several owners complain of banging their legs on the engine, I've have the GSA so it has engine crash bars as well, I've had it 6 months and have never once banged my legs. As for the quick shifter, I've been riding bikes for 50 years and this is the first bike I've owned with a quick shifter, even if everyone said it was brilliant I would still use the clutch, it doesn't take any effort to pull the lever, I guess I'm just old school. I would say there are some things I have found hard to get used to compared to other bikes I've owned over the years, one being not being able to flat foot, with the weight of the GSA it makes you feel very insecure in traffic and at junctions, always worrying about potholes or lose gravel catching me out, I also find it hard to get used to the anti dive on the front suspension, it just feels weird when every bike has that nose dive when you brake and this bike doesn't dip at all, this is the first bike I've had with a hydraulic clutch, it's either on or off, I'm used to cable clutch where you have plenty of slip to feather and control especially in slow manurers, as soon as you find the biting point that's it the clutch is fully out, not easy to get smooth pull aways every time. All being said it's the best bike I've owned really, however if I still had some of the 70's/80's classic bikes I owned back then, they would be my main rides.

@@thefika You should see if you can get a test ride from a local dealer, it would be interesting to get a comparison between the 2 bikes. These bikes really make sense in your country, I'd love to be able to explore some of your vast country on mine, it's too expensive to ship a bike out their though, it would work out costly to hire a bike on top of all the other travel costs.

Yer right. While gear changes on a QS are best with positive momentum. The GS does this with momentum or not. I do exactly the same thing on the 1290 Super Adventure, Tiger 1200 and Multistrada V4 and I don't get leaped into the next postcode when I do so. This QS is Rubbish on the GS. Its pretty much well known as it turns out.
