If I were you, I’d put an interior door matching your other room doors or a garden door (light panels to floor). This will help from getting a cold blast every time you open you open door in the winter, and help keep bugs out in spring, plus noise reduction from your laundry station :)

I suggest installing an interior door to keep the draft to a minimum in winter. Keeping a comfortable temperature in the house is a must when opening a porch door connecting directly with the outside.

It looks good. My advice, put in a cheap interior door.

leave the boards an inch shy of your rafters , center it then foam it in it will be very tight then the foam needs space to be

Seeing Steve having fun at the start of the video has reminded me, on behalf of the goats, to ask you to give them some things to climb on in their paddock. I'm all about the animals but love you guys too! 😄

Moving the door out and you got it to fit. Amazing that it appeared so easy to move it. The place is going to look so good. Now you will get a bit more light into your main room. It would be great if there's a way to make the internal opening a bit bigger if it doesn't take any strength away. Once you put molding around your inner opening it will be beautiful again. Another successful event is completed safely. Big hugs from Santa Barbara. 👋🤗😘🙏😎🌹🍷

I do remember when you guys struggle the first time with that door. As in baseball you guys barely got on first base. This time, you guys hit it out of the park. A homerun! Did a great job, like the way you guys work as a team. Keep up the good work!

Yes PIR sheets are harder than glass fibre BUT it is roughly twice the R value per inch !! What I would suggest is you put it ontop of your plywood in roof , then cross batten etc

Katie I had a big opening for my laundry room my Husband had to put a door on the laundry room it would drive. You crazy listing to the washer and dryer plus when you clean out your dryer vent the dust that goes up in the air gets every where please put you a interior door ! Also if your dogs get muddy they can't track through your home they would be in the laundry room till you could get them cleaned up to come inside house please consider this. Are especially don't make a bigger opening until you see if that's for SURE what you want to do. LOVE YOU KIDS❤❤❤

I really like your external insulation. A lot of folks do the same to their roofs. I don't know if you did that. A dry, warm home goes a long way to make where you live livable. Mahalo Nui for showing us what you do. With Aloha...

If I were in your shoes, I’d definitely consider installing an interior door that matches the others in your home or even a garden door with beautiful light panels that extend to the floor. Not only would this give your space a cohesive and stylish look, but it would also be so practical! It would keep out those cold drafts every time you open the door in winter, help prevent pesky bugs from sneaking in during spring, and even reduce the noise from your laundry station. It’s a small change that would make a world of difference in comfort and function!

With access to wood & your mill you could easily make up a 2x8 or 2x10 plank 4,5,6,7,8 ft in length to fit between the ladders when working overhead. 7:52. Especially to save straddling the ladders.

I see all the work to end up with a insulated interior space and all of the wood that serves as a cold air shunt. I built a house in the mountains of Oregon and used structural integrated panels, aka, structural foam panels. One piece gives you andinside wafer wood nailable wall, 4.5 inch up to 10 inch solid foam core, and and an outside waferwood panel. You build a solid wall and then cut out the windows and doors. R-value is incredible. Condensation happens inside the foam. Structurally it is incredible. We loved the results. Our energy bill was $400 per yer, no need for airconditioning, and our neighbors were looking at $4000 energy bills per year. I know it is probably too late for you, but your viewers could benefit from this product.

I would have left the new room as a 'boot' room, seperate from the rest of the house. When you come in with the dogs it would stop your heat escaping, and stop them running through the house covered in mud.

Greg / Katie just so you know i use a staple gun to put my rigid foam in. how? well my air stapler is set at low pressure so when i put rigid foam up... i staple into wood underneath foam but tight.....and some of the staple sticks out making a little shelf to hold rigid foam. and you can staple pretty damn fast with it so it works real well. Hold tight up against foam and blocks above and staple away....no use for blocks then to hold it to sides. And above rigid foam i have used shutes for air flow.. but if you get foam tight enough to sides,... no need for blocks. just little ones... 2x2's for air gap on top of foam. take care have fun it is what life is about always an adventure.

As someone who worked in the Film Industry here in the UK, my area was Dubbing and we often needed to produce sound effects to add to the Sound Track. When you were pulling the original house covering off the noise was amazing and memories came back to those wonderful days. Steven will soon need an Agent, what a little star, his Tap Dancing routine on the board was tremendous. Well done Katie and Greg xx❤️💙

sorry to be late watching - my summers are really busy - so winter is catchup . Great work . In the UK rules/ build styles are different so its good to see alternatives. One small comment though - a products has an R value, when you add up R values you get a U value - which every layer in a wall , floor, roof etc is made of.

If the tube for the spray foam gets clogged or if the foam dries in the tube , heat a piece or stiff wire or a piece of coat hanger works best, get it hot enough to melt the foam and run the wire through several times and then you can reuse the tube and not waste any leftover foam in the can.
