Awesome that you connected the sleep paralysis to those lyrics. This song was partly inspired by Billie’s experiences with that. But the song was mostly inspired by a book called “the babadook.” One of Billie’s favorite books. She always opens her live shows with this song. It’s so awesome.

Your ability to break down these songs first listen is crazy!!Bury a friend served as one of the singles before the album. 2020’s Album of the Year at the Grammys. This entire album is a masterpiece and recommend checking out all the songs!

That is Billie’s back in the video, and you were right that she wanted the needles to be real, but they wouldn’t allow it so they were stuck on her back. Billie always refuses green screen/CGI when she can.

I take that as a compliment lol. But no, I just go based off visuals and lyrics. I always react with an open mind, and I always have it in my head that the lyrics are not as simple as they sound. That’s why I also rewatch the song at the end.

I know I’m late but you got in for this it’s about sleep paralysis, when the partys over is about toxicity of a relationship. The black liquid used in that video is about the toxicity going inside of her like her brain for example when she cries the toxicity is too much for her and pours out of her, I hope this helps !

That's a different song that she played once but never released. This one was made a year after that and is about her struggles with sleep paralysis.
