It was really dark and I saw that the ceiling and walls had this weird "grass" all over them. It was not grass, it was milions of these arachnids and when I touched the ceiling they all fell on me and some got into my mouth and everything. Harvestmen are a gregarious bunch and form these dense, dark bunches that look almost furry from all their long legs. They can pack themselves into a surprisingly small volume which makes it even more dramatic when they are disturbed and they begin to scatter and flee, it's just a shame how fragile they are- they drop legs so easily when pinched or dragged and I feel terrible when I clumsily damage them like this. That cave has likely been a popular overwintering spot for myriad animals including all the Opiliones for the entire time it has been open to the surface (and it may have been blocked off for some periods by movement of soil or debris), the temperature is likely quite stable if somewhat cool in the lower portions year-round.

Well probably the biggest reason is because if they weren't human size we wouldn't go in. Minor correction; spiders are venomous, not poisonous. And pretty much EVERY species of actual spider is venomous. It just depends on if that spider has the right cocktail, the volume of venom and the physical ability/personality to deliver a bite that can harm humans. Harvestmen are not spiders but I can see why the video creators used "spiders", as let's be honest, a den of Harvestmen (often called Daddy Longlegs) isn't going to have the same attention grab!

@@billsanders9387 I am fascinated by caves. Have been since I was 7 years old and went in a giant one on vacation at Devil’s Den Arkansas. It had huge rooms with one tight crawling on floor squeeze that opened up to a giant room with a beautiful waterfall at the end. That I could manage, but what y’all do is too much for me so I thank you for sharing your adventures underground 🙏 Cheers

At 10:53 it literally looks as though you're crawling out of the mouth of a demonic face, what you've done there is unintentionally opened the entrance to hell the spiders are just the welcoming party. @CalvinHikes Жыл бұрын
You are very correct and I appreciate your comment. However I think that's true of almost everything people see on video. There's just such limited information there's no way a person watching could have any idea what's going on. So it's interesting to learn not what a person criticizes but why they criticize it. What do they think they are watching or what do they think is going on. It's definitely an interesting social study from this side. *very very few reasonable human comments like yours.

There are some things laymen can criticize. I saw a video just earlier of a guy going into a cave with fast flowing water in it, and all the water was basically ice cold since it was freshly melted snow. He went in this cave (that he could tell might be flooding) without a wet suit, so he wound up extremely cold and, risk of drowning aside, could've also gotten hypothermia and maybe even frostbite. He came out fine thankfully. But it's pretty clear why going into that cave in that condition was a bad idea, even if you aren't a caver.

@@catpoke9557nope! Still just a video. It might have been our video. We have a video of going into a freezing cave that's full of water and swimming through it. But it's still almost a charade. Love this channel and subscribed! I’ve got a deep fascination with caves and the overall geology of our Earth’s crust. I find your philosophy on fear and conquering it very interesting and it caused me to be interested in human psychology. Do you think that exploring those tight caves could actually help someone with claustrophobia… I guess you might call it “exposure therapy”…..expose yourself to what you fear until you train your brain to realize that it’s no longer as scary as you thought it was? Yes you might have a wave of panic but you learn to ride the wave and let it come and go until your fight or flight symptoms lessen? Sorry if that’s a strange question…..what y’all are doing is very inspiring especially the fact that you have fun doing something that would otherwise be horrifying to many ! 😅
