The water level is up and I find some nice smallmouth tucked under the grassy banks in small creek feeding into the river.

Thanks man! Crazy things happen when you spend enough time on the water! I’ll have to do a bloopers/strange happenings type video this winter, I have a ton of good footage from the last six years for that!

First time seeing your videos, they are great! Looks like you are fishing near Bismarck, do you ever kayak fish some of the area lakes for largemouth?

Thanks Brandon! I live in Fargo so this and most of my videos are actually shot in MN. I just ran with the channel name I started with to throw people off trying to find my spots lol. I’ve fished Nelson Lake once, other than that Spiritwood lake is about as far west as I’ve been.

NDYakAngler I'm glad your channel has blown up, so to speak. Otherwise I doubt I'd have had you pop up in my recommended videos awhile back. You fish pretty much exactly the same way I do. Love it. Targeting Smallies so often, have you considered the Ned Rig? I see you throwing the Bitsy Bug a lot. Just something I've wondered.

I wade fished upstream on this stretch of river a few weeks back and absolutely hammered the smallies! It will probably be an hour long video so I might have to hold on to that footage until off season when I have more time to edit.

Great video again! Still trying to figure out my local creeks smallies. Not the consistency of the size of these pigs but here and there. My creeks only get about 4 foot deep at the most I'd say though.

Thanks Mike! There’s certain spots on this river that always seem to hold fish. The best way to figure them out is to spend more time fishing!

I have watched almost every one of your videos. You are really good at editing tons and tons of footage. We have three main rivers in my city that are 9-23' deep. I want to get into fishing them more from my kayak. Given how deep mine are compared to yours should I start out with your main three setups? Bitsy bug, plopper, and wacky worm?
@ndyakangler6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jake! I’ve fished several rivers and those lures have produced fish on all of them. The jig should catch fish just about anywhere and is good for working deeper water. Late summer and early fall are prime time for topwater as well, the Whopper Plopper and Spook are what I’ll be throwing probably 75% of the time I’m on the water over the next two months. I generally fish the wacky worm in shallow water 6-7’ or less but even in those deeper rivers you’ll likely find smallmouth tucked in current breaks along the bank or any shallower slow current areas might be worth throwing a worm at. If you’re somewhat new to the water and don’t know the spots where fish like to hang out I’d add a crank bait or spinner bait to cover water fast and find those fishy spots, although this time of year the Whopper Plopper should work just as well for that.

that rod tip grass poke thing is from another planet man what are the odds of plucking a big bass right in front of u like that?
@ndyakangler6 жыл бұрын
There’s always one or two under that grass when the water is high enough. I almost had another epic catch there again Saturday, had my rod tip submerged out in front of that bank to get a topwater lure in front of them and had a big one come grab it and break me off.
@Jnf4586 жыл бұрын
Awesome as always. Forgot what river video it was, but you were fishing in a river with a lot of eelgrass, I have this in the skinny river I fish (mostly in the middle) and always avoid fishing it, smallies ever hang out in this grass? I always fish holes and banks but never the eelgrass, should I be fishing it? Maybe weedless topwater is best bet? Thanks Again!
@ndyakangler6 жыл бұрын
I’ve found a few in that grass during the summer months, mostly in open pockets or close to other structure though. I don’t spend much time fishing it, there’s usually plenty of other stuff nearby where there’s a higher chance of finding fish. The one time I did find decent numbers of fish around those weeds was last fall when they had died off for the most part but there were still a few small patches remaining. The fish would hide behind the patches and use them as a current break.

Thanks Alex! I think I’ll try targeting some musky this fall too for something a little different. Got one on the first cast the other day in my kayak and had a couple more follows so it got my interest enough to invest in a musky rod and a few lures to throw at them.

How awesome is that , stick your rod under the bank and come out with a chunk. You must me getting some rain out your way. Everything back in NH has been kinda low but we’ve been getting a ton of rain this past week. Should be able to float a couple of rivers without dragging bottom or having to walk the kayak. Another great video as always.
@ndyakangler6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We had a little bit of rain, I think the high water level was more from them messing with dam flow either up or downstream.

After watching this video Saturday afternoon, I went out pitching to grassy undercut banks and a 32” Northern blew up on me. It’s truly amazing what can be lurking in 18” of water. Love your content, keep it coming!!
@ndyakangler6 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome! I was surprised to see a ~10lb catfish pop out from under a grassy bank in about 8” of water the other day! It’s a good spot for fish to hide though. There’s shade, likely some current break, and it’s a good spot for them to ambush prey that comes swimming or drifting by.
@cunoll4186 жыл бұрын
I saw in another post that you weren’t crazy about the bitsy craw trailer. Have you tried the rage tail baby craws? They’re by far my favorite bitsy bug trailer.
@ndyakangler6 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried them. I used some of the new Z-man TRD crawz yesterday though and they’re awesome, probably the best trailer I’ve used for the Bitsy Bug. The pinchers have some good buoyancy so it sits in a defensive position on the bottom.
@cunoll4186 жыл бұрын
I’ll have to give them a try. Zman plastic are super durable, so I’m always happy to try their stuff. Thanks for the tip!!

Im always astonished by the excellent fishing you have. The rivers you fish seem to be world class smb fisheries, maybe better than the Susquehanna river!
@ndyakangler6 жыл бұрын
Yeah this river is a smallie factory! They stocked them once the same year I was born coincidentally and they’ve thrived since then. A good population of fish and almost zero pressure makes for some amazing fishing just about every time I head out there!
@ledraps226 жыл бұрын
Surprised there werent smb there before they stocked, because it's amazing how well they populated that river. Zero pressure must be a great detail too, because it takes a long time for smallies to get that big. That's something you dont get here in most NJ's rivers. Tight lines, man.
