There's a very economical substitute for a broken expensive leaf blower...it's called a rake. 😂

I use a rake when I want to move a medium sized pile of leaves a couple of feet onto a tarp. It's surprisingly easier than using the blower in a lot of ways.

People who say you have to buy the best of everything are normally in mountains of debt to keep up with the neighbours/friends My neighbour used to say you must be rich with all those fancy power tools until I told him I used to mow lawns commercially and that fancy $1800 mower I use on my small yard made me between $60/75k
@MUUKOW3

No you don't have to be rich or in debt to own the best, you can save or one can buy used. I don't give two poops what neighbor has I just like quality tools to work with.

Yeah I really love the "but once and cry once" crowd. Like everyone can afford that. My wife and I was able to purchase 50 acres and a house for $100k. The catch? The house is old and needs lots of work. I'm not going to write a book, but to date all of the mechanical parts of the house except electrical and septic, and they are coming. Buy once., cry once, we'd still be renting or have a massive house payment. What we did allows us to fix slow and pay out of pocket.
@HomeGaragechannel

thank you for sharing that, sounds like it was a lot of working getting to where you are now. You should be very proud of yourself. 50 acres is quite the bit of land!

50 acres for 100k ,crap I would have bought two with a burnt down house! Normally that would be 8 to 900k and above! I never put cry once buy once with property, I prefer the diamond in the rough and a little sweat equity . Enjoy the homestead!

I think that mower has a bent crankshaft or something, it looks like it’s shaking all over!
@HomeGaragechannel
@HomeGaragechannel 16 күн бұрын
yes you are very perceptive. So when I picked this mower up, the owner told me the crankshaft was bent and I was just going to use it for parts, but while testing it, it was was leaking gas out of the purge bulb which was something I've never seen sense. Just wanted to see if shimming the needle would help out. It kinda worked but I would not recommend this kind of repair.

I had a similar problem with the float level non-adjustable style. I forced separated the plastic with screwdriver...it worked but I suspect overtime it would eventually return ( I sold it while still working). I will use this permanent fix if I come across this problem again. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

HAPPY DAYS!! I finally finished the mower from hell. I have been working on a '98 Snapper Ninja with a GCV 160 on and off for two and a half years. I replaced nearly the entire fuel system, and it would only run halfway decent fully choked or at full throttle. The problem ended up being the little plastic insulator that sits between the heat deflector and the engine. It was warped, and was causing an air leak. I replaced it, and it is running perfect. I finally gave it back to the owner. Of course, the main jet was clogged and it wouldn't start when he came to pick it up, but I took care of it and it is finally gone. I have spent more time on that mower than every other mower I have ever owned combined. The one thing I didn't replace ended up being the problem. I have never been so happy to get something out of my shop. smh

Lol. I get attached too. That's why I have 14 mowers right now, lol. I'm gonna let most of them go as soon Spring hits, but I have a couple that aren't going anywhere. I have a riding mower that I built out of my parts stash, and two mowers that were purchased by my mother, went through multiple owners, and made it back to me through odd sets of circumstances. They were the first mowers I ever worked on. I'm not selling those, even though they are both cheap mowers that are pushing 20 years old.

Hi ! The fuel leak is caused by the bent cranckshaft. It induces vibration in the carb. Had this occur a few times ,straightening or changing the cranck fixes it.
@HomeGaragechannel
@HomeGaragechannel 16 күн бұрын
the strange part is that I've started and ran many mowers with a bent crankshaft from Hondas to briggs, and this was the only one to ever leak fuel. So why this one and not the other dozen or so then?
@andraskocsis4754
@andraskocsis4754 15 күн бұрын
@HomeGaragechannel I think the gas starts to foam up in the carb due to vibration,and it goes in the fuel "pump" (cant remember it rn in english) ,because the fuel pump its aproximately at the same level as the vent of the carb. So.its coming out from the middle.of the pump. Only saw this on the 500 series briggs

Because of where I live, and the kind of trees that grow here, leaf blowers don’t seem to work that well because the leaves here tend to be small and heavy. A bagger on a mower or just a racking them by hand is much more effective than trying to blow them.
@HomeGaragechannel
@HomeGaragechannel 16 күн бұрын
interesting what kind of trees are you talking about? The reason I ask Is because I have a water oak with small heavy waxy leaves and it's kind of a paint to blower especially with the grass I have In the yard.
@brianandrews7099
@brianandrews7099 16 күн бұрын
Yes, we have mostly water and live oaks down here. The blower does ok in moving the top layer of leaves when the leaves are deep and freshly fallen, at least until they have gotten embedded in the grass or if the leaves have gotten wet and stuck together. After that, the rake or bagger is the only thing that moves them effectively. My cheap handheld blower is really just used to clear the concreted driveway, sidewalks, and porches.

I had to work my way up in the qualityy of stuff I ended up with. A poor man uses whatever he can afford or get given.I ended up keeping about all my projects but ended up giving them away when I couldn't work on them any more. I didn't try selling them because they were well paid for and I got the good as far as I was concerned years ago. I still give stuff away and it's good for both sides but that's me. I've been there, done that and have the scars to prove it but live and be happy and keep grinning. Makes people wonder what you're thinking! Fakes 'em out! Happy weekend

I'm more of the "pick up out of the trash and fix it" type. Going to the store and buying one is for suckers. I recently paid for a mower for the first time in my life. I paid $6 each for a few mowers a couple of weeks ago. I had to think about it for a minute, lol.

I've asked this question and even shown 2 pics on a fb mower repair page and still confused. I recently grabbed a regular push mower off the curb. After getting it home and taking everything off without any problem I decided to take the wheels off and off came washers, one reg flat and one cup/bell. If someone could show the proper way a cup/ bell washer and the sequence would be fantastic. No hurry since it 28 degrees but I'm pounding my hear against the wall😵

sure but I would need to know the model number of the mower. We'll then be able to compare it the parts diagram, and who knows, maybe we'll find out that they were put on by someone else.
