It was great watching your series of videos of your hike on the Appalachian Trail. I enjoyed the beautiful scenery that y’all encountered on the trail. It’s the closest that I’ll get to hiking the Appalachian Trail. What I really enjoyed the most about your videos is how you were realistic about the mental and emotional challenges that come with a thru hike on the Appalachian Trail. Y’all pulled through all of them with flying colors. Now that you’re home, I wish you, Little Bear, and the rest of your family all the best. They seem like a great group of people. Since y’all live in the same county in Florida as my aunt and uncle do, maybe we’ll all run into each other one of these days. You never know where I may turn up. Congratulations Momma Bear and Little Bear on all you accomplished together on the AT! Hiking 1/3 of the trail is a great feat in itself. As a former summer camp backpack leader I was absolutely impressed with your risk assessment, logistics of resupplies, rest days, and all the other details that make for a successful adventure. My 93 year old father hiked all of CT, MA, and VT sections of the AT when he was in his late 50's. He greatly enjoyed watching your beautiful footage of the parts of the AT he never saw. Your photos, music and stories were magical so please accept our thanks for all the extra effort it takes each day to create these videos. We were both impressed with your honesty of why you wanted to hike the AT...it was your calling. I have seen several not lovely comments and just wanted to take a moment to say that this world is ugly enough sometimes without the hurtful comments people feel they must display. I constantly tell my 15 year old if you can't say nice things don't speak. Every thought that comes to mind doesn't necessarily need to be spoken. It's ok to be on a journey and that one journey may end sooner than expected for another one to begin. Be kind...you never know how much your kindness can influence others. Coming home to family from the AT after days or months and many, many miles...best feeling ever! Thanks for including these final steps on your awesome AT journey. I only spend four to six days on my AT section hikes. I find driving home much more enjoyable and fast then the drive away from home to the AT. I find the AT challenging and meaningful and memorable. And, yet, when I get home, there's a bit of an adjustment period. Going from the simplicity of life on the AT - water, water, water, food, walk 15 miles, sleep, basic hygiene - to the complexities of modern life - bill paying, mowing the grass, laundry, work, whatever - can be quite an adjustment. If I find it a modest challenge to reacclimate to "real life" after just six days, what must it be like for LASHers and thru-hikers? Good luck, best wishes, God Bless to you both (and to your family) as you resume life at home. For those of us who walk in the Light and know our good God and savior, it is particularly meaningful. Glad you both got home safe. The decision to go home to be with family you made together and that makes it the perfect decision. I must say that you both did so well on the trail. Of course, I kind of wished you had continued on a little bit more to make it to Harper's Ferry and got your pictures taken at the AT conservatory. Also, I was curious if you both would have done the half gallon ice cream challenge. Maybe you can have an ice cream challenge at home with the whole family. I live in Virginia Beach and my goal is to hike the AT from Damascus to Harper's Ferry next year (have to decide if I want to do that in the fall with all the pretty leaves). Can't wait to see what your next adventures will be. Perhaps at next years trail days you can take the bike ride down the Creeper Trail with the family. (I did last year and it was awesome). Stay safe and enjoy the summer.

Thanks! No regrets for us! We’re full of gratitude! What an awesome experience we had!! 😊 We talked about continuing to HF, but then quickly realized it would only be to say that we did. That wouldn’t have been meaningful to us and we don’t like checking boxes for the sake of checking boxes. We left on a very high note: healthy, happy, injury free, with no negative feelings towards the trail. It was perfect timing. Sometimes you’re just done and it’s wise to know when that is. It would’ve been a shame to stay for the sake of staying and end up resenting our time on trail. We saw so many people who were so miserable and no longer enjoying it. It was sad.

LauraStrong, I live in Chesapeake and attempted an AT thru-hike this year. Due to a stress fracture of the cuboid bone in my left foot, I got off trail at mile 423.1. It's a 3-5 month recovery. I'm praying I can be back on trail in July, I'll have to flip-flop though, starting at Katahdin and work my way back to where I got off trail. I work part time for the NH schools but I also work at a nursing home in NH One of the residents relative who visits his family member every day followed you He also was disabppointed when you left the trail. When I went into work one day he said "the bears left the trail" I wasn't sure what he was talking about but then I figured it out You really brightened our day
