Mama Bear & Little Bear, I just watched this video … and thank you for posting it. Moreso, thank you for opening your hearts and yourselves (and family) to this effort. I assume your boots on the ground outreach was the inspiration for y’all’s dedication of your upcoming thru hike attempt to the healing of Appalachia. Bless you and your family for this! Sugar Bear.
@wildflowersadventures11 күн бұрын
Hey Sugar Bear! Thank you so much. The inspiration came long before we volunteered. When Little Bear and I walked through those areas earlier this year, we left a part of our hearts in Appalachia. When the devastation occurred, we knew we wanted to do whatever we could to help. It’s our hope and prayer that we can continue to raise awareness and funds to help Appalachia to continue to heal, recover, and rebuild.
@sugarbearspawtreks11 күн бұрын
@ Mama Bear, I am so behind y’all in your Awareness Mission towards Appalachia. You and Little Bear will have a perspective unique to most of the other thru hike attempters … y’all have covered that ground before and will be able to show the before and after perspectives that will certainly break all of our hearts. BUT, it will also shine the positive light of the good work that the trail club volunteers have been and will be doing to clear the debris and make the trail passable again. February will be here before you know it. Happy Trails, Sugar Bear.

I absolutely LOVE the lady with her own equipment and her own grit to get things done even if it was just her !!!!! My kind of hard working woman right there!!! Wow just WOW !! WHY isn’t anyone helping her ???????
@wildflowersadventuresАй бұрын
I know, right?!?! I loved meeting her!!! She is an amazing woman. This is the people of Appalachia. If they have the means, they just do it. And if they don’t, they figure it out as best as they can. They are strong and resilient! I’m not sure why no one has been helping her. My guess is that there’s just SO much to do and not enough hands and feet. It’s hard to imagine the level of destruction, but there’s simply not enough people to do what needs to be done.
@Matt999PLАй бұрын
@@wildflowersadventures Is there any public/ county dumping area this woman goes to dump trash?
@wildflowersadventuresАй бұрын
@Matt999PL She has made big piles on the adjacent lot for now as a centralized collection point. I’m not sure what the next step is. She has 2 dump trucks to utilize for transportation. I imagine the city has a dump, but I’m guessing they have had to make additional sites for all the excess debris.

Debris needs to be used for berms to hold the soil and direct water from the next flood. Those trees that were washed out are what used to hold the soil.

There is nothing like getting your hands and feet dirty for Jesus by helping our neighbors in their time of need. Three weeks ago I heard the song “Welcome Home” by Shelley King on my way to church, after watching a portion of a video on Helene in Appalachia before leaving home. The song was not through the first verse before I was overwhelmed with the necessity to get to North Carolina as soon as possible. That week after gathering supplies and making local contacts … Burnsville, NC become the destination. After two weeks of being back home I am still reeling from what was experienced. Next week I will go to Boone, NC for more relief work for the families in that area. God offers us so many opportunities to carry His blessing to those in need. My message is “Get your hands and feet dirty for Jesus!” Thank you for your experience and sharing it with all of us on KZbin.

Thank you so much for answering the call and for your obedience to God. I’m sure you experienced something similar to us in that what you saw was vastly worse than what you had expected based on the pics and videos you’d seen prior. It’s just indescribable. The widespread damage is incomprehensible, but together, the hands and feet of Jesus, can make a difference. Together, we can help Appalachia heal, recover, and eventually rebuild. 💙☀️🙏🏼

Just heard about a horrible flooding in Spain, several hundred people died. The country sent 2500 military to help clean up and are sending another 5000 to the task. How many military was sent to this disaster? Why do we see hundreds of volunteers and very few military?

I heard about it, too. It’s so sad. I’m so sorry they are experiencing that now. I’m not sure how much of our military has responded. I know they have been there and have read reports of 10,000+ National Guard, Air Force, Army, and Army Corp of Engineers have responded with heavy equipment, helicopters, high rise vehicles and boats. I’ve seen on other vlogs that they have had a significant presence.

I got prickly heat...that blood dropping to your feet feeling... I apologize for being hard on your AT ending. I appreciate you're coming back here to help. Thank you for your kind words. Emotions are running high, and people are lashing out. That’s ok. I can take it. I get it. Initially, I was very uncomfortable making this video, but after being asked by locals, I just had to. Too many have said that people are already forgetting about them and that breaks my heart. I understand though. It’s not malicious, but when things stop getting media coverage, it quickly becomes out of sight and out of mind. It’s going to be a very long road to recovery. We can’t let people forget. I even met 7 people in Georgia….seven!!! who had been told that the devastated areas already had too many supplies and too many volunteers. One person said that they heard 500 volunteers had been turned away because there just wasn’t enough work for them. That could not be further from the truth!! The amount of physical work needed is incalculable! So, if making this video raises awareness, gets the truth out, and encourages people to help, that’s a good thing. Welcome back to beautiful northeastern tennessee. I grew up in the 70's going to that church camp for a week every summer. Looks like they have built new bumk houses. My grandma Bonnie ( Yates) Denton grew up in that Bumpus cove community that was devestated by the nolichucky flood waters. Too many of the peoples houses were washed away. Aboit a week.ago They just got the roadway built back into the little Germany community located back behind bumpus cove community.

buladean area located just south of roan mountain was hit hard. They have a hub for distribution setup in an old school building located beside thw buladean fire department. That area is located just south of the standing Indian gap that you all hiked through before getting up to hughes gap and roan mountain on the AT.

Thank you for sharing. There’s so much love, history and community in that area. It’s so sad to see and know of all the devastation and what it once was. I pray that it can be rebuilt and healing can begin. I know there’s a long way to go.

Reason we need so much of warm winter clothes. The red clay mud is contaminated. So we have to throw away our clothes. To wash in the laundry would spread to children's clothes on towels on sleeping bags. We do wear coveralls but end up getting covered with red clay mud. We do not know where to put the tons of mud after getting it out of the homes. Come help us. Prayers still save lives here . We see miracles happen.

God Bless You and Your Family for coming here to our mountains to help! Thank You for posting this. Here's a testimony about the Hands of an Almighty God: We live in one of the NC counties hit by this, but not nearly as hard as some others. Our little town does not have a Wal-Mart. All roads out of town were closed for several days. When we could, my wife and I made the trip off our mountain to a Wal-Mart about 45 miles east to a town untouched by the storm. The store was busy and many of the shelves were empty, especially water and non-perishable food and goods. I talked to several employees of the store, asking who all was buying up the goods and the answer I got brought tears to my eyes; "It all the local people here in our town. They are buying up goods and taking them to local companies that have tractor trailers, loading them up and hauling them up in the mountains." One employees last word is "God wont let them mountain people go without if we got anything to do with it!" I know one of the companies was hauling multiple truck loads to Irwin too. Our tiny county has many volunteer fire departments, a volunteer rescue squad, and many churches. The supplies kept coming... Fire departments had to park their trucks outside to house all the donations and truck loads of goods; and it kept coming... Finally, redistribution got organized and the goods not needed here were sent to all the other needy areas... tractor trailer load after tractor trailer load; then you started seeing all the videos of the interstates backed up with loads of supplies and hay for the cattle and horses, from all over the country... and money - millions and millions of dollars - mostly from individuals. Well, you get the point! Then I see you guys taking out cloths from bags that could have come from anywhere. GOD IS GREAT! America is GREAT because of the people and because we are mostly still "One Nation Under God"! Thank You All Again and all the other people who have helped and continue to help. This disaster is not over... it's just begun!

They are not forgotten by God or their fellow Americans. Much love from Texas! ❤

And I’m grateful our kids got to experience this so that they will forever understand our call to be helpers. The rest of our family quickly understood the connection and love Little Bear and I have for Appalachia. They share that love and connection now, too. Initially, I was very uncomfortable making this video, but after being asked by a number of locals to do so in an effort to continue raising awareness, and seeing the majority of the feedback we’ve gotten, I now know it was the right thing to do. I pray it encourages others to pray and help in whatever way they can. Thank you for your kindness and support. Love and light to you! 💙☀️🙏🏼

Thank you for watching. I was really uncomfortable making the video. But when asked by many locals to do so, so that we can continue to raise awareness, I knew it was the right thing to do. And, sadly, we hiked a small section in Georgia and met 7 people….7 people!!! who had all been told that Appalachia has what they need and too many volunteers. One hiker said he heard that 500 volunteers were turned away because there wasn’t enough work. I was shocked! I’m thankful I was able to help them understand the truth. It’s misinformation like that that hurts people. Anyway, yes, God confirmed multiple times that we were exactly where we needed to be. 😊 We were so thankful. Thank you for your continued support. These are the type of videos that need to be put in front of people to remind them. But we must remember that this affected 6 states. 2 storms in less than a month decimated many areas that are going to need help long term. Unfortunately thats not what FEMA does or ever has done. Many people believed otherwise and found out the hard way. Several agency's including FEMA, were not funded because of the congress not voting to do so right before the storms when it was most needed. Covering these areas has been a challenge. My hope is that no one community or family is left wanting. Thankfully there are groups who have came in to Appalachia and other states to fill the void. Donations of substance have been overwhelming. Im Simply amazed at the generosity of our countrymen. While its true that Appalachia is very much in need of continued help, so are many other areas of our country. Keep sending this type of video. Free from blaming and political rhetoric because we are all one people. Americans all. Thanks for the hard work your doing. Stay safe out there

Thank you! 😊 Yes, please, please keep trying. Once you get there, you’ll see why it may have been hard to coordinate with someone and get a direction in how to help. The devastation is truly unimaginable. Some people think they’re already in the rebuilding process…and maybe a small number are….but there’s also people still searching for their missing loved ones presumed deceased and buried under all the mud and rubble. There’s families sleeping in tents. I don’t mean to sound so harsh, but that’s the reality you quickly understand once you get there. Please, please keep trying. It’s going to be a long road, but together we can make a difference. If you get in contact with the Cajun Navy Relief or join the Boone’s Brigade (contact Patrick Gwinn) group on Facebook, I promise you’ll find so many ways to help. God bless you. 💙☀️🙏🏼
