In the US it is illegal to blow more than .08 in a breathalyzer when you get pulled over. That is considered prima facie illegal. If you blow less than that you can still be charged with being intoxicated but the officer must name objective behaviors that prove you were "impaired".

The term 'booze' generally refers to hard liquor.
@Lefty0000Ай бұрын
Here in the U.S. you can have maybe 3 beers before you're technically under the influence, according to the law. So you cannot drink and drive at that point. Speaking as an alcoholic myself, I found that I was agreeing with Norm lol
@rossmacintosh5652Ай бұрын
That three beers limit might be Miller Lite (4.2% ABV) or other piss water. When drinking craft beers like a Double APA they could have upwards of 8% alcohol, so you can't reference it by numbers of beers.

0.08% BAC (blood alcohol content) is the limit allowed for operating a motor vehicl. this is essentially 1 glass of wine, or 1 medium strength 12 ounce beer, or one 1.5 ounce shot of liquor per hour. other than answering that question you two had, Norm is a legend. check out his saturday night live skits if you find the time :)

Don't assume that Norm Macdonald is making it up as he goes along. His comedy is very well written and rehearsed. What makes him unique is the delivery which makes it appear that he is talking off the top of his head. If you watch some of his interview appearances, you will see him more spontaneous. Even then he still hysterically funny.

Drinking and driving in the U.S. you have to have a blood alcohol level below 0.8 percent... which means you probably only want to have about one 12oz. beer per hour if you want to be under the limit. But nobody drinks like that.

No mass transit in America except for the major cities. So people drive home.
@thomasschimmeyer871517 күн бұрын
Booze is one of those words that changes meaning depending on the geography it is used in. In some regions it is just distilled spirits and in others it is all alcoholic beverages. This is true within the US at least. As far as the US laws for drunk driving. Every state is allowed their own laws but a federal mandate for all 50 established .08% as the legal limit. Each state has its own laws for stricter penalties for higher levels though. This means in some states if you blow .15% you face much harsher consequences. So in say Alabama .15% is the same as .08% legally but if you hit .16% there it is much worse. Or you can go to Wisconsin and only see real issues at .25% if you are a real alcoholic.
@theivory1Ай бұрын
Same here. Basically one drink then an hour or so and you should be good. Unless you hardly ever partake.
@jontasticАй бұрын
The smaller the city, the less likely the police all have body cameras and alcohol breath tests. The police test a driver’s ability to follow directions, involuntary eye movements, steadiness, etc to also test for a variety of intoxicants besides alcohol. If the driver cannot perform well, if the police have a portable breath test that is performed. Then if they are arrested, their breath, blood, or urine is tested at the police station. Blood or urine tests are needed for drug intoxicants. People call a taxi, friend, uber, Lyft, etc if they are intoxicated. But many people do drive home after too much. Women’s bodies process alcohol slower and remain intoxicated longer than men. One beer an hour is about the maximum that should be consumed, and a glass not a pint. Every glass should be offset with a glass of water. And no drinking for an hour before driving. Now imagine you have a drinking problem. Could you control yourself and follow these guidelines?
@Trucker231610Ай бұрын
Norm was a great comedian he's for sure one of a kind. Although his stand-up is good he really shines in interviews. For family friendly comedy watch him on Conan.. theer are a lot of great compilations of this in KZbin More adult oriented comedy can be found in his clips with Dennis Miller.

It’s usually 1-3 drinks depending on the person that will put you over the limit, but keep in mind small towns in the us incentivize drinking and driving, the odds of being pulled over is low but if you park near the bar and leave your car because you had to many you are certainly getting a 15 dollar ticket. It’s all a money making racket not about protection.

For me personally it's not worth the risk tho my partying days are was behind me on occasion I'll go to some event that serves alcohol and if I think I'm gonna drink I'll do UBER I've even gotten a hotel room 30 miles from my home and Uber to the event from there. It's just not worth the risk anymore I've DUI can ruin your life. When I was younger it was nothing to go to the bar all night and drive home.

Drinking and driving in the US is complicated. Each state has its own rules and if you're looking to judge how it's handled by the law and the people in movies, I would first ask, what year is the movie? Drinking laws have gotten continually stringent over the years. I believe for most states there is a blood alcohol level determined by each state that you cannot surpass. Some are absolutist with no alcohol in the blood permitted.
@mattmorgan881Ай бұрын
You are allowed a blood alcohol level that basically means an average person will need to wait an hour per drink before they can drive, but you can buy your own little breath tester to make sure you're safe. Drinking and driving was a major problem here because we drive everywhere and it's most of the reason why they raised the drinking age form 18 to 21.

I’ve heard this complaint about the quality of the video before when people are talking about Norm MacDonald. I’ll tell you this right now. NO ONE cares about the video quality. Norm’s videos are of him sitting or standing telling jokes and stories. As long as you can hear it. It’s funny. On the alcohol question. One beer, one shot or one glass of wine will give you a blood alcohol content of 1.0. That’s what the scale is based on. It takes the average person an hour to process the alcohol down to zero. So if you leave the bar immediately after drinking it, you’re driving drunk. If you leave the bar a half hour later, you’re probably OK.
