I met Anya in real life. She was so kind and she’s (believe it or not) much prettier in real life. My eyes are similar to Anya’s and I also got bullied for them. I think she’s stunning, and she inspires me so much.

She's got a weird look (in that it's different to most) but I love it, it's so unique, and unique is always better in my books. That being said, I have to disagree with the bullying part. I'd even say it's essential, it makes or breaks us. I sure as hell wouldn't be the person I am today if I didn't change schools 3 times because of bullying, it taught me perseverance. As shit as it was to experience at the time, it's an unfortunate universal truth that hardship will always teach you the most. Typically you'll find that the most sensitive and talentless people that are still working a 9-5 deep into their thirties with no deep passions really haven't endured very much pain or taken many risks throughout the life. Good and bad experiences are equally important in life.

Many children become victim to Freud's Narcissism of small differences, "the phenomenon where people within a group that shares many similarities become intensely focused on and hostile towards minor differences between them, often leading to conflict and animosity, even when those differences are insignificant; essentially, the more alike people are, the more they might exaggerate small distinctions to differentiate themselves and feel superior." I think you're right but being from the UK, and remembering when I was in Secondary school how a Canadian girl who joined our year group and was in some of my classes, some of the bullying is because when you come from a different culture and are seen as different, which fits in with what you say. In this case the girl in question I don't think was physically bullied (though I think psychological bullying can be just as bad, probably worse in many cases) she just found it hard fitting in and making friends. She had much more of a focus on doing well rather than making friends and had a bit of an air of superiority, though I think this was just because she was smart and her parents pushed her. She didn't stay too long, because I think it did affect her. It's sad how kids can single out people, maybe especially newcomers, probably as well like apex predators in the wild do, because they aren't part of a group and are easy prey. I don't see anything wrong with Anya's appearance at all, except that she's beautiful and if it hadn't been pointed out that she was actually off Argentine origins I'd have just thought she came from quite a wealthy English family, went to private school, then into modelling/acting, as many actors seem to have done. She is quite an incredible actress because I've seen her in these movies and TV shows and never recognised her for being the same actress, which I think shows how special she is (though I'm sure this will change as she gets propelled to bigger and bigger lead roles).

I have nothing against her, I actually really like her. It just feels weird how she comes from money (not a lawyer or doctor dad, but actual money lol) but no one seems to acknowledge that. What I mean, is that when you hear she dropped out of school at 16 to pursue her dreams, or that her family comes from a third world country or whatever, it paints a picture that’s not very truthful. At least from her dad’s side (the one who’s from Argentina), they actually come from a very privileged Scottish/British community on the north of Buenos Aires. Anya has spoken about her family owning a nature sanctuary in Argentina, which is true, but she never mentions the fact that that place is part of a very exclusive gated community that her dad owns, located on a private island, only accessible by yacht. His dad was a very successful banker, and while living in Argentina Anya used to attend one of the most expensive and elite schools in Argentina, the same school Queen Maxima of the Netherlands attended many years before Anya. Being rich is not a sin, but circumstances do change when you know the full picture lol. Also, Anya says that she was born in the USA by mistake, which seems very suspicious to me. She has 2 full siblings (with whom she shares both parents), and all 3 of them were born outside of Argentina (all of their Argentinian IDs are publicly listed in the internet, and in Argentina the IDs of immigrants are different than the IDs of people born in the country). So something tells me that her parents planned the vacation to Miami to give birth in the states, but who knows, maybe I’m just wrong and they made the same miscalculation 3 times in a row and gave birth to all of their children abroad by accident lol

I admire her too but agree that an archetypal narrative has been constructed around her here. A kind of 'Ugly Duckling' meets 'Cinderella' story to give other women something to relate to and fantasize about as is so often done in Hollywood.

@@finwefingolfin7113 yeah, well said. She’s never been ugly, pretty people also get bullied (and I’m not talking about “everyone’s beautiful on the inside” bs lol, she is objectively a decent looking person (at the least), with an interest life story, well traveled and with wealthy parents. How miserable can your life be? She reminds me of all the famous people exaggerating or twisting their lives on interviews to seem more relatable (like Sydney Sweeney, you should definitely look up her ‘lies’ if you haven’t already lol)

Honestly her best work thus far is the queens’ gambit. Looking in terms of acting or quality of the project, nothing tops it yet, I would even argue that the rest doesn’t really come close. Anya Taylor Joy is possessed of a unique and enchanting kind of beauty that brings to mind an etherial faerie, who lives in an enchanted forest. She looks like a character out of Tolkien. She is a striking beauty. But that is only a small part of her charisma. She is a fearless actor, taking on roles that have nothing to do with physical beauty. Her acting range is vast. It seems she can play any type of character you can imagine, and make it look completely believable and fascinating. On top of that, you really can't see a hint of narcissism in her. I think she will be regarded for all time as one of the greats, occupying the highest pantheon of actin talent and charisma.

I thought you were going to say how her eyes are so far apart, she literally looks like an alien in a shoddy human suit. I'm not even being mean to her or anything, but her weird far-apart eyes are very noticeable for an actress, who performs in a visual medium. She doesn't look human. Nothing against her as a person, but her face is very distracting. It's so funny to see women doing the women thing of fake niceness in the comments; "There's nothing wrong with her looks at all! I love Her but, the best chameleon by far is Andrea Riseborough: By far. One can barely recognize her from roll to roll. She absolutely inhabits every roll she's completely masters all accents and nuances. Long after I realized she was my favorite actress she fooled me over and over again! It's virtually impossible to see the actresses playing the Northern Irish protagonist in Shadow Dancer and the American TV reporter in Disconnect as the same human. Or the good Nurse in the "The Kindness of Strangers" as the same hottie playing opposite of Tom Cruise in "Oblivion". The list is endless and endlessly amazing.

Her eye color is unique. Had she and I been in school together, I'm 100% sure that she would have been one of the most beautiful in the class, if not school, by both genders. Maybe that's the Midwestern point of view. Her eyes are what first drew me to her, and I've seen pics of her from school days on. The girls must have been intimidated and guys jealous. If not, then I'd be surprised. She has a seriously sexy voice and grace in her movement, which is the sort of thing I picked up on in my teens, a little ahead of my peers. They were still on the body first, and other things followed.

In spite of her former films, she will always be Emma (what she portrays best), and she knows it -- which is why she is trying to expand her repertoire in new unexpected directions, to see what else she can master... some artists like that challenge, to broaden their skills, then, with a variety of skills, they have a chance for them all coming together in one masterpiece (which is defined by that coming together of all of the various smaller elements that you've been mastering). You just need a lot of those elements, and, to master them, the first step is to try them, which is why I give her an artistic pass on the ill-fitting Mad Max adventure -- as an artist, she needed to at least try it.

Imagine if she's Disney's Snow White. Making it a non-musical live action remake. She's perfect.

I almost didn't click this video because I thought it would be a conspiratorial, bullying video. I did though, and it turned out to be more of a tribute and presentation. I think this video should have another title!

I was a classically trained professional portrait artist for many years and I can tell you without a doubt everything about her face is in perfect proportion. It's the people who raise shitty kids and the public school systems that are horribly flawed, not this beautiful woman.

Even though it's never explicitly stated in the show, her portrayal of Beth in Queens Gambit is one of the best depictions of autism I've ever seen. It's not infantilizing and it deals a lot with what a lot of adult autistic people (like myself) deal with often, like relationship issues and addiction. Anya's probably NT from what I know, but she nailed it and that role really meant a lot to me.

i always thought anya was cute. yes she is definitely a versatile actress and i love the various roles she plays in movies. it's always nice to have these kinds of actors in movies because it's fresh to someone not stuck on a specific stereotype as an actor.

Her eyes didn't look bad when she was a kid. I got called satelite ears, my other friend sid from ice age, another one a monkey cuz of his ears. The tone and relationship matters, it was never bullying for us. I left high school in 2017 and they are my best friends till this day. It's disgusting if you do that to someone without knowing for sure it doesn't hurt them and they are totally OK with it.
