Art can be such a broad term and field and as a currently part-time but hopefully soon full-time artist myself, I think it's hard to give advice, because who's to say that your interpretation of art and your vision of being an artist is the same as mine. I will attempt it though and if it helps, great, but if it's not for you, that's actually great as well. As I experience it, for me there kind of are two areas where I exist when it comes to making art. There's the creative part of it, which for me is very intimate, deep, but also fun, relaxing and being myself. Then there's the technical side of it where it's about skill, improvement and art as a craftsmanship. I myself tend to approach art like the old masters, not in that style necessarily, but I value a high level of skill in what I do. That's me and I know artists who put a piece of concrete on a steel rod and decorate it with holiday lights and that's legitimate too. Art is broad, for me it has to be a craft and if people walk into a room I want my piece to catch them, but for others it may be a vehicle to communicate something else. Depending on your approach and your aspirations regarding art as a craft, it partly depends on the way you're able to work on your own when it comes to the topic of art-college. If you can and want to train yourself sufficiently on your own, college might not be needed. But it can be great for people who need that external discipline and guidance. Unfortunately I do often hear people say they didn't even learn much at college so that's sad. I met many artists and they are all so different, but I have to say most of them see it as a craft and most are interested in and proud of how they use techniques. It's certainly helpful and also great fun to continuously improve at preparation, composition, color theory, anatomy, perspective, drawing/painting/sculpting/crafting technique, and much more. And drawing alone is such a helpful fundamental skill, also learning how to draw well from your elbow and shoulder with momentum standing up which will change the energy in many ways. Anyways I realize this is less of an advice and maybe more of just my thoughts. I would be curious on what your approach, thoughts and visions are regarding all this. I would say most importantly though, be you and when in doubt reside in your heart.

First of all thank you so much for sharing your perspective! I see art in a similar yet different way you do -- I agree that there's two types of artistic expression where one is personal and fueled more by inner creativity but the other one for me is tied down more to consumerism. For example if I'm making my clay keychains and I have to make 20 of them it quickly gets very repetitive and manufactured although there is a certain joy in knowing that my handcrafted work can be shared and enjoyed by multiple people. In terms of improving my skill -- I admit its a area I need work harder on! Because making the same thing over and over does limit my creativity and I definitely believe art school could be beneficial to me -- its just a veeery expensive commitment. I would say I'm less interested in the traditional side of art (illustration, painting and what-not) because it doesn't align with my future goals and therefor Ive never felt the need to sharpen those specific skills although once in a while I do love a good drawing session. I would agree that there's many more techniques I could improve on though -- like for me its by learning new editing tricks, marketing, and experimenting with how I can make my creations more sturdy or valuable. Art can be very niche and like you said broad, but so far I think I've already determined the direction I want to go in. Now I just need to follow that path. Everything you said was very thought-provoking and made me really think about what I'm doing and what I could potentially Improve on. As I'm not in school my self-discipline can sometimes be feeble but reading comments like yours and knowing that my videos are reaching like-minded people really motivates me! I wish you well on your artist journey!

@@flowlotl Hey I love your reply and I was happy to hear that my thoughts maybe got your wheels spinning a bit more. That's a very good thing, clarifying your vision of your north star that you follow. It sounds self-evident but knowing where you're going or at least what you're aiming at is so very helpful because it defines the road you're taking. Along the way we grow and change and it's a good idea to correct the position of one's north star from time to time, but keeping one's goal in a fog from the start for whatever reason can be detrimental because time really does move fast. It's a tricky thing, there's that pressure to perform but there's also that lingering disappointment if you don't and the years have passed. That's why I like my drive to perform to come from my heart and not my head, it makes things happen out of love instead of fear. Please allow me one last time to be a little bit annoying regarding the traditional side of art. I'm currently into clay-projects myself and I happen to be good at drawing because I did it a lot in the past. The ways I find my drawing skills to be helpful in my other projects is really amazing and surprising. When you practice drawing, you also learn to see symmetry, composition, contrast, segmentation, volume, perspective and of course you become more dexterous and very importantly, it trains your eye too. Furthermore, knowing about these things enables you to communicate and establish your creative visions way more effectively. But I will stop now, of course you know best what you want or need, I just wanted to share my experiences a bit. Btw I liked how you said art can be niche or broad. That word niche got my wheels turning for a bit lol. Thanks again for your kind reply and as I already commented in the past, I really love your videos. Very chill and honest and fun. Keep em coming!

@realrebelli0n you're totally right! honestly sometimes I have an idea for a art project or something and I attempt and fail because I realized I don't actually have the necessary skills to execute it. It's like my brain knows but my hand doesn't lol. I remember once I set a goal to draw at least once a week and completely abandoned it so you've inspired me to keep going! Also this is kind of funny because (spoiler alert) my next video is a painting video so I hope you look forward to it!

Your comments always bring a big smile to my face -- thank you for being so kind! I'm happy your enjoying the playlist and that also reminds me! I didn't get to see your comment from that video 😞 -- I saw it for one second and then it vanished because KZbin has been deleting any comments that have a link in it. I don't know why they did that but I remember you recommended me a song and I didn't get the chance to listen to it! lmk what it was and I'll listen to it!!

It was a cover of Garbage's "The trick is to keep on breathing" by The Progressive Souls Collective. Released a few months ago. An interesting take on that great song, I hope u like it. Perhaps not as advanced and far-ranging as your playlist, which blows me away. I listen to the Cool Girl playlist on my lunch break at work, hours of amazing music! lol, I just got 2 Bleach 03 CDs in the mail today bc of you, thank you for introducing me to such brilliant music of a variety of kinds! 💕

you killed the intro it’s so cute! 🖤🪷also i just wanted to say it sometimes feel weird for me as a 29yo to watch 19yo/teens on youtube, but i just love your vibe and your uniqueness. I feel like you’ll always be an artist no matter what. it’s just who you are. And the only big sister advice i can give you is the key to happiness is to be true to yourself and it’s never (!) too late to change the path your on if it doesn’t suit you anymore
