Truth be told even though I do play a lot of cruisers.When you have been he spammed all game and the only time you line up a full salvo you overpen the ship with every shell it’s quite broken.Even heavy cruisers overpen light cruisers often.

Well, I mean, cruisers ARE the strongest ship type overall, they are the meta esp HE spam, but what makes it so funny is they're not the most popular ship type, battleships are. So, yeah, it is funny to hear the majority of the player base cry about bbs not just instantly sinking everything they shoot at.

Riga is still one of my go to ships I just have a hard time dealing with dds in it

While I didn't break down my individual stats this time, in a 3 man division my win rate was in the high 80% which makes a lot of sense.. solo, you're not going to get enough salvos off to sink a DD, but if you've got a division? its more than enough time to focus one down. But yeah, that HE is preeeetty lack luster.. but at least its a high velocity.

@@metajerk i agree with all you said i lump this ship in with Alaska and stalin in the dd aspect yes it can deal with it but you really need that buddy close by to help out. I play 90% solo and do well enough with it

@@metajerk My favourite thing about Riga in my stats is I have an 80% WR all solo, with an anemic 60k average damage. Comparing to something like a Suzuya where I have a 68% WR with 107k average damage and it's interesting. Now I only have 51 games in Riga, so I can't say I have a huge sample size there, but it's interesting to note that damage doesnt equal wins.

@@Skiiiiiifreeeeeee Thats impressive.. I know my three man div in Riga is like 86 or 87%, but 2 man is only like 76%, but then solo is surprisingly low, like 58% which is very low for me.. But yes, there's more to it than damage for sure!

Meh hipper and Eugen have as good ap plus the torps and the longest range sonar. Also a bonus cause they were real ships. I’m still not convinced about Riga. Maybe if they did something with her secondaries, which you forgot to mention…

The AP on hipper/Eugen isn’t even close to the same pen.. Riga will pen 450mm at 8.5km, Hipper would need to be 1.5km away to do that, nor do they have improved angles or shorter fused, but that’s all redundant because hipper and Eugen have torps at those ranges.. but yeah, all these small variations between ships is what makes them fun to me 🙃

I’m giving this video a like because it’s excellent, as usual, but do not treat it as an endorsement of more (pretend) Russian CAs. I’m personally not a big fan of ships that never existed outside of fantasy, which is… (checks notes) most of the Soviet ships in the game.

I’ll be honest the take that “Riga is bad” is not definitively correct. It’s accuracy is incredibly trolly. This accuracy to along with its awkward AP penetration that refuses to detonate on cruisers unless it’s in there citadel. Salvos from Riga tend to full pen over pen and shatter all in the same salvo all too often because it’s accuracy and awkward penetration lead to the idea that it’s unreliable and can be rightfully summarized by the statement “it’s bad” even though it’s an ok ship because if you have played it long enough you can admit that RNG can make riga very frustrating to play. So although riga has fantastic armor and good shell characteristics everyone would gladly embrace an accuracy buff to riga.

The whole “riga is bad” in the video is sarcasm on my part, I also don’t find the accuracy bad either, but hey, get it buffed, won’t hear me argue. Apparently it has a good win rate, average battle impact and decent average damage, and meh average xp.. which to me, sounds like “above average players play this ship only”, I think those shells are trolly because yes, the arm threshold is high, and the penetration is great, but you really need to know it’s values.. when I shot the Iowa at 11km I was thinking I had like Azuma pen, but it ain’t _that_ good.. I went and looked and for Iowa I’d need to be around 8km… too many numbers to remember!

@@metajerk yeah I picked up on your sarcasm, I’m not necessarily targeting you just more of having a discussion about this topic in my comment. I recently maxed out my Lightful to 16 4 and honestly was very dissatisfied with its accuracy, everyone preached to me how lightful was a game changer but in all honesty I feel more of a difference on Tallin (my baby). I do think that Riga’s dispersion circumstance is very similar to the Charles Martel reload booster circumstance, adding the booster to Chuck didn’t make it over powered but made it more fun to play, the same can be said about Riga’s dispersion, it’s guns and armor are good enough to make it playable but since Riga is an AP focused cruiser accuracy is needed to have an impact and it wouldn’t make Riga over powered because of its dpm and lack of maneuverability. It’s shocking to me that WG would make most if not all AP focused ships so in accurate while HE spammers don’t have to suffer and cause more issues in the rock paper scissors balance between ship types as it’s far more efficient to use one to destroy everything but other cruiser. Azuma, for example, was looked down upon by the vast majority of players until it’s accuracy was addressed and it’s not considered OP by anyone, just more fun to play! I’d take a nerf to DPM in exchange for an appropriate dispersion buff if necessary but right now Riga is only “fun” in 1/5 or so games because of how reliant it is on RNG

Oh yeah, I’ll still get a wonky salvo sometimes with Riga (see the wacky horizontal dispersion on the Iowa kill shot, or one or two of those HE salvos at Azuma), but by and large the salvos are more similar to the first salvo I fired at the Weimar (which was 8 shell hits, 5 of which were over pens 2 citadels and a regular pen).. similar, not identical.. if they were all like that? Oh hell yes, but that’s Stalingrad 🤣 IMO, dispersion is fine, but what I think it really needs is like 6k more HP, I mean, freakin P Bag has more health than it.. I could’ve sworn at some point on some stream they said it was doing well, but since it’s only doing well in W/R, maybe we will see some buffs in the future.. but more likely we will see a copy pasta ship at T8 that, on paper, is better, but turns out to be worse for 30 million silver.. in the meantime, we wait for Petro and Nevsky 😑
