Stopped doing Halloween decades ago. Nowadays you put all the 'fun stuff' out in the yard, put candy out, and then some parent or kid trips/slips/falls on your property and tries to sue your insurance company. NO LIE. It's just not worth it anymore for a few kids to come by. They go to the malls now anyways and get all the free candy they want from stores.
@therealeconomy6052 Жыл бұрын
You are right, it’s just not worth it anymore. The major food manufacturers push it every year though.

@@therealeconomy6052 I grew up poor. Once I hit civil service and paid my house off, I didn't want to be rich anymore. I no longer watch TV so the ads don't bother me. The stuff they advertise is for kids anyway; that's the target demo. After 55, all they want to pitch to you on TV is meds or diahhrea medicine so it works out.

@@raydemos1181 That's an idea, cook it in a pot of water to dilute the salt. If you sauté it in a skillet, as the water leaves, the product becomes saltier.

In my neighborhood, we don’t get very many of any trick-or-treaters. On Friday, while grocery shopping, I bought normal size bag of Kit Kats and got a second bag for free on a Publix bogo. I bought the candy to give to the one kid who lives in my neighborhood, because I won’t have my porch light on later on today, and I wanted to give her some candy. I have a Sam’s membership, and all I buy there is meat, butter, tortillas, and occasionally some seafood, but mostly bulk meat, like 3-4 butt roasts at a time. I don’t really venture into the candy sections, seasonal items, electronics, and pantry staples isles as I’m there for the meat. I make about 45-65 lbs of char siu (Chinese BBQ pork) with the butt roasts, and tons of roast and BBQ pork egg rolls, and it lasts for months in the freezer. I save money buy eating the same things for months and months at a time, but make sure I’m eating stuff that I don’t just like, but love, like the Chinese BBQ. I also do a lot of shopping at Asian grocery stores which have great prices on things, and where I can get my bulk light and dark soy sauces, 10-20 pounds of fresh egg noodles, rice noodles, etc. I do a lot of shopping at Walmart too. I think the eating the same things for moths strategy helps, because I prep and cook in bulk and don’t end up buying canned foods, chips, frozen meals, cold cuts, and numerous other things that add up. I’m not suggesting anyone else do as I do. It’s just how I’ve figured how to live on an extremely tight budget, and eat foods (Chinese BBQ, egg rolls, lo mein and chow mein, egg rolls, vegetables, dumplings etc) without having to blow $30+ at the Chinese restaurant for what I love.

The prices at Sam's Club were not better than Costco's prices for the name brands and Kirkland stuff was just as good as the name brands and Sam's didn't have an answer so they left Canada. Those prices were high for a lot of the items even by Canadian standards. A lot of the "foods" you pointed out, aren't available in the Costco I shop in. It is more raw foods for cooking than prepared stuff in a bag or cans. The way the market is going is they are upping the prices of the cheap stuff because more people are addicted/familiar to the brands. A hamburger for $5 at McDonalds or large fries for $3. The fries cost way less to make than a hamburger, but people with little money might buy fries only and people with money buy the fries so it makes financial sense to increase the prices of the fries and not the burger.
