What a great update ! Editing metadata from the Media Explorer is gold !

Awesome update! I really wish they'd implement "back" and "forward" hotkey navigation through folders. I appreciate the [] buttons at the top of the media explorer, but most mice have dedicated back and forward buttons that Windows Explorer and Mac OS Finder use for navigation. The metadata feature is a welcome change too. Thanks for the rundown as always, Jon!

I still want more actions for the media explorer like 'pass through command to main' and also would be nice to have an option to reverse drag and drop, from main window to the explorer, so I can for example take an audio file from the timeline, and drag it to my IR folder to use with ReaVerb, but that's a lot of cool stuff. Good job Cockos. :)

Super helpful video. Amazing that you are able to make a video explaining all of this in such a short time. I don't use the Explorer to that much detail though some features look nice to have. I'm still hoping for more feature to be brought into the MIDI section. Like a MIDI drum editor would be really nice.

Great Update. One thing I'd like them to fix in Media Explorer (since they removed the ability to use embedded windows explorer) is the renaming file function. It needs to have an action associated or at least work to where I can click then click again (like windows) rather than having to right-click to find the rename function.

Great video Jon! Thanks for your work. I'm recording a podcast remotely with my dad who lives overseas. We're currently using a platform called Zencastr to record. When we're done recording, I get the audio tracks for my part and my dad's and use Reaper to edit. Given the latency between the two tracks, I currently have to go in and remove the white spaces between our parts manually so it sounds more natural and conversational. Would dynamic split be able to help me in this case? Any thoughts on how to do that in an efficient way? Thank you!

Worth adding to the media explorer: -tags and audio previews on track templates or preset files. That would be absolutely amazing. -a midi monitor button to play the samples with pitch shifting in the explorer. This is already possible by routing the explorer’s output through a track, but it feels rather hackish.

Hello everyone. I just started testing using Reaper. I have one thing that annoys me. When i add a third party Fx i see the GUI but also a big extra window on the left where you see the list of Plugins. Can i makes this stay hidden in a way? In Ableton when i click on an Effect i see only the Gui pop up of the Plugin, no extra window in window graphics.
@TheREAPERBlog4 жыл бұрын
depends on how you open the fx. if you open them from the fx chain, you see the fx chain. if you open from a slot in the mixer then the window will float. From the fx-chain you can double-click to float the fx. The chain gives you access to copy, paste, reordering, and much more.
@saardean44814 жыл бұрын
@@TheREAPERBlog Ok i think i get it. So if i want to float the window of each plugin i have to double click on each one individually or as discovered i can also open them via right click in which case the window floats immediately without double clicking. I thought that the ripple editing support in Dynamic Split would work across tracks and would render my custom action (kzbin.info/www/bejne/aofcgYdump6Nns0) obsolete. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get it work: REAPER only ripples per track. Is there something I’m missing?
@TheREAPERBlog4 жыл бұрын
were the items grouped?
@leafac4 жыл бұрын
@@TheREAPERBlog I tried that too. No dice.
@TheREAPERBlog4 жыл бұрын
I can get multi-track dynamic split to work with ripple but only if the content is similar on each track, like silence is same time on each track. You group the tracks, but disable grouping. Select one of the items and analyze with dynamic split set dynamic split action to "split selected and grouped items" and ripple all tracks on. So you could do this with multi-mic dialog if you first render the voices into one file and group with the originals. analyze the render, ripple split silence applying to grouped items and delete the guide file.
@leafac4 жыл бұрын
@@TheREAPERBlog So I figured. That’s what my custom action does.* I was hoping to get rid of the rendering shenanigans, but it seems like not yet. * Actually, I use “Item: Auto trim/split items (remove silence)...” instead because Dynamic Split doesn’t stop the chain of actions, which is a problem no one seems to understand: forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=242482

Why should I use such a dumb tool to manage my files? Other tools like Loopcloud have key and tempo detection and offer much smarter technology. The Media Explorer not only looks outdated, it is also outdated and that after a "major" update. That's embarrassing. A few years ago, Reaper was the most promising DAW. The last 3 years have been a complete standstill compared to the other DAWs. Too bad. I was the biggest fan once.
@TheREAPERBlog4 жыл бұрын
Loopcloud is great, especially for loop based music, I'm a user myself. But people use REAPER for a thousand other things too and this is fulfilling a lot of feature requests.

@@TheREAPERBlog I'm just worried that I'll have to change the DAW soon. Reaper is becoming more and more a pure recording program with an audio editor. And you can use it for mastering. As a music producer of electronic music (almost all genres) you are getting more and more at a disadvantage compared to the other DAWs. Cockos consistently ignores any change requests regarding the musical or compositional part. Innovations such as automation items take years to be reasonably error-free and usable. Not to mention the midi editor. It's just not taken care of. In the meantime, there is simply no passion to create a good product. It looked different a few years ago. This is a pity.

@@TheRheinprinz Yes true.Scripts in Reaper are taken care of for other features but in edm compatibility still lacking and lacklustre despite all enormous workflow script and shortcuts. Looks like you might be wanting something other than Reaper. I bought Reaper had great fun using it and always intended to return for tasks that it was best at. Bought Ableton Suite and having been happily playing with loops and do all sorts of funky modulation stuff, plus a pile of synths, fx and sounds. Here’s the rub though, last time I checked Reaper was £60, even on sale Ableton Suite’s £431 and has only recently got functions like comping and multi track midi editing that Reaper’s had for years.
