A Cadillac V-Series model has always been the pinnacle of any performance Cadillac. Unfortunately, for 2020, the company has decided to make their V-series models a bit more approachable and this all-new #CadillacCT5V is supposed to be the company's answer to the Audi S4, BMW M340i, and Mercedes-AMG C43. It pairs a twin-turbo V6 with a new 10-speed transmission with standard rear or available AWD. While the #CT5V does not have the bonkers power or even as much power as the old CTS V-Sport, the #CadillacCT5 is significantly less expensive than the old #Cadillac #CTS and offers far more interior space versus its smaller german rivals.

Happy Friday guys! Cadillac may have "watered down" the V-Series vehicles for these new generations, but the CT5-V is about $12,000 less expensive than the old CTS V-Sport, is nearly as quick to 60 MPH, and offers far more interior space than it German rivals. We can't wait to drive the real "V" though... bring on the CT5 V Blackwing!

Yea I think keeping the V nomenclature but toning down the vehicle, in both power and price to make it more accessible as a daily driver, did cause some confusion at first....but I like the direction they chose to go as it makes more sense for the average buyer, who isnt looking for 420hp and a starting price of $60k which the old CTS V Sport had...I just hope that, with the annual iterations, they do some neccessary interior upgrades to improve the premium feel and make it a true luxury competitor....however, as you acknowledged in your review, they definitely nailed the driving dynamics

I love my CT5-V. It’s like two cars in one. Put it in tour mode, and it rides better than my Escalade. Drop it in V mode or track and it becomes another car. Handles like it’s on rails and is very quick. My V is fully loaded for around 61. I have no need for a 200 mph car and the black wing is only a second faster 0-60. Equipped like mine your over 110. Unless you’re a track guy, the top speed on this V is 155. I’ll never take it up there. So for most, this is all you need.

I agree. However, they've been attempting to shed the grampa Caddy imagine since they legitimately committed to the 2nd gen CTS. Problem is, GM won't commit any legit advertising budget to their sedans. The ATS and 3rd gen CTS were amazing driver's cars, and I'm happy they still used the alpha platform with this. Caddy went back to the tweener, e.g. 2008-2012 CTS, and it's only legitimate comp in price, specs and size is the all new TLX. Perhaps the Q50, if Nissan would ever actually provide a redesign on it's Infiniti model.

I've never understood why everyone (including this review!) is missing the point. These new V's are the replacement for the V-Sport models (previously the CTS and XTS). I used to own the CTS V-Sport and it was a blast. When Cadillac decided to retire the V-Sport branding, they just expanded the V-brand. There will be replacements for the old Vs soon enough. Mercedes did something similar a while back by doing away with the AMG-Sport branding and just used "AMG" among all models, just using the 63/53 and 43 badging to determine what was a "true" AMG and what was a replacement for the AMG-Sport.

Why is it so vital and so important for the exhaust sound to be really, really loud? Some of us who are past the age of 30, and aren't insecure if everybody isn't staring at our cars all the time are more concerned with a great handling car with good power, along with the car being.....comfortable.

Every reviewer is knocking this for not having 650HP. The reality is what GM has done was a good move. On their old path they wouldn't last another 5 years. Now you can attract younger buyers and hopefully keep them with a lower price point, granted the Ct5 isn't actually cheap once you add all the options. It needs to be rebated to get on the road, and get popular.

I believe the rub is that Cadillac is diluting the V "heritage" probably in effort to cash in on it's performance intentions, even though it's not as good as it once was, average buyer just see's the V badge. Same issue with BMW diluting M, and Mercedes doing the same with AMG - seems like a marketing ploy.

@Der Schwindel honestly, I like it. Particularly when the driving mode is on Sport, steering gets heavier and it handles lot more precise. There really isn’t anything I don’t like about the car. Perhaps aside from, every time I start the car I need to remember to turn off the feature that shuts off the engine when you are at the red light. It should be able to be turned on when desired, not automatically on every time I start it. A bit annoying but I got used to it. Aside from that, I love the car.

Great review! Thank you! Is Cadillac a realizable brand? I’m considering getting this car or getting the Acura Type-S I’m waiting for the Type -S to come out and test drive it. What do you think?

That car sounds great for a twin turbo v6. It sound just like the ATS-V (which is a 465hp v6)

Nice review and neighborhood (Mont Clair) my sister-in-law live there. I will wait for the V/Blackwing. I hope I am not disappointed because used CTS-V's are disappearing (ATS-V too). Right now for me, the ATS-V is faster than this. Thanks for your review.

This guy complain about everything. “This V6 sound is not as good as the previous CTS-V” what were you expecting? Maybe is the way you talk but your comments always sound more negative than positive” “This CT5-V is a downgrade from the CTS-V”. What if you reformulate your words. Instead you can say: “This is not really a CTS-V succesor. This is just a sportier CT5 and eventually the CTS-V succesor will be the Balckwing” This is not the only video I see this guy not being to speak as objective as possible. Just confuses you.

The exhaust sounds a lot better on the outside than the fake noise on the inside. Green looks great and I think the wheels give it a more Lexus-like appearance. Luxury meets sporty. Also agreed on the rear side window trim, looks like a Cruze or a Nissan Altima

I love the rotary knob to control the infotainment screen as I have spine and shoulder problems. Please GM, pay attention to body solidity mainly in the doors and dash areas. I hate to close doors and hear parts resonate. Great product but it ain't a CTS-V replacement as stated.

I feel like cadillac always nails it with exterior and performance. People don't buy these things because of the interiors. I wish they would just step it up, sell them for closer to the German car prices, and just create cars that are competitive in every way-- not just performance and exterior looks. They have a hard time keeping up because people who cross shop these want better interiors.

Treats On The Streets In theory, I agree, but if they charged the same as the Germans and had equal interiors and details, they would get criticized even more for “daring” to charge $125k for a Cadillac sedan!

Nice review. However, I think it is strange that you would prefer to have all those driver assists as standard. All those things would raise the price of the base car and a lot of people would prefer to go without and save the cash. Choice is always better. I have been driving for 35 years with none of those features, so I think I would be okay not having them.

@@jeffs6090 I haven't heard about that anywhere, but am hoping that happens at least in the CT5 as it is now the flagship sedan after the CT6 got discontinued...the interior on the CT5 needs to be stepped up if they seriously want to compete with the German brands

Love my Cadillac CTS 3.6. I would just need more torque, like the 420 from the CTS-V series. But nowadays I can get a Tesla Model 3 with all the torque, and AP2, even Full Self Driving , for the same $60,000 , while I will save $20,000 in gasoline over its life. I have 14 more years before replacing my CTS. Hopefully Cadillac will have a competitive electric sedan or coupe so that I can continue to be a lifetime GM owner :) The ELR came close, but I won t accept front wheel drive, and the price was ridiculous.

Test drove one today. I was amazed by the performance. People need to remember even tho it’s not a “true” V...it’s twin turbo. Soon as they start launching tunes, e85 and more it’ll be a MONSTER. Let’s remember the ATSV. Easy to get into the 10s. Also the Grand National. Don’t knock a twin turbo..

Most GM products, that I've been in if you disengage the traction control. You should be able to rev it out more. Granted everyone that I've tried were fwd based. But GM should keep it with the rwd based models.
