The anime took me a couple years to catch up on and definitely has some fun elements to it but damn, DBZ ain't got shit on the amount of episodes that feel like filler. The actor, Mackenyu who plays Zoro is the son of famous Japanese actor and martial artist, Sonny Chiba, who you may also remember from Kill Bill vol.1 who gives Uma Thurman the katana she uses. Mackenyu also has a martial arts background which is why he does his own stunts and is very a popular actor in Japan due to his roles in Rurouni Kenshin: The Final, Fullmetal Alchemist films and many more

My theory is that the poison put Luffy in a state of only near unconsciousness or maybe in a catatonic state, so he was able to hear what happened around him but couldn't move until his body expelled the poison. And that's why he knew abt the butler.

There was an old fan theory/ speculation about Kuina's death. Where they claimed that she killed herself bc "falling down the stairs" was code for taking your own life. I'm pretty sure it's debunked by now but I bought into that for the longest time when I was a kid. Anyway, I think it was just used to show how death can sneak up on you without warning and its better to actively chase after your dreams before some random accident or illness puts you in the ground.

Luffy's power is Rubber not stretchiness, as rubber is less lame than just stretchiness. Mr. Fantasitic is stretchy but Luffy is rubber. Rubber bounce back, to stretch you need to put strength into it and you can fling. for example if you have big chunk of rubber and big chunk of stretchy goo(the thing kids play) and hit it with a hammer, rubber stays the same but stretchy goo flatened

This is what confuses me though, as in episode 1 for example, Alvida hits him on the head with her bat, and his skull just bends to absorb the impact and he doesn't seem injured at all. But he also gets hit other times and it seems to hurt him just like it would anyway else? So is it a conscious decision to make your body rubber? I thought he was in a constant state of it 🤔

They call them Transponder Snails and yes there are different types. In the anime the snails emote the emulation of the person you are on the phone with and they take on their details. For instance if luffy called usopp the snail would have on goggles randomly or if he called nami it would have her hair style it’s great

In the anime/manga, Garp was revealed to be Luffy’s grandpa in the later arc. It’s interesting that Oda has made this big reveal early in the story. Seeing your reaction was how all of us reacted when we found out Garp is Luffy’s grandpops. A crazy twist for sure. Oda is the goat.

A lot of people miss the significance of Kurina’s death, in the anime they specifically reference that she fell from some steps while trying to reach a whetstone to sharpen her katana. Their Sensei, who is also her father is puzzled why she would need to be sharpening her katana, because as both this show and the anime show that they use boken in their training. So her pact with Zoro as well as their secret training inadvertently led to her death, adding further impetus for him to honour her.

One of my favourite things about the adaption is how they stay with Koby so much in the beginning. In the anime (I'm assuming also manga) you don't see Koby again for quite some time after he leaves Luffy to join the Marines. It's always a joy to me when he shows up in the anime so to see them stay with him and develop it more in the live action makes me really happy.

I believe in the manga/anime it is classified as just an accident with her falling down a flight of stairs but there are people in the One Piece community that believe that her death wasn't an accident and could've possibly been a suicide and some think even murder but it hasn't really been clarified as of yet in both the manga and anime. Definitely curious to see if this iteration will handle that information or if the answer is simply she did pass away like they say she did.

I know it still doesn't make it perfect, but in all combat fighting sports the back of the head is an illegal area, and the reason is because it doesn't take much force to knockout or concuss someone if they are hit in the back of the head. Fighters just go limp when they are struck there after taking a 25 mins beating, its crazy but its true lol

Kuina’s death was so much of a bad meme that the showrunner a thought it was better to make it ambiguous than to admit that Zoro’s greatest rival was killed by stairs. But I’ve noticed that by leaving it ambiguous it makes everyone who I have watched react to the show not believe she’s dead and that there’s some grand mystery going on about her when in reality, they thought the audience wouldn’t be able to handle the truth. And fair enough to the show runners. Like, it was a mistake mislead people like this but an understandable mistake given the truth of the matter.

Kuro have super speed as special move but when he uses it he isn't really stronger bc he is less acurate, he is simply faster on foot only... Luffy isn't stretchy he is made of ruber it is big difference, bc names matter bc there can be fruits that is about stretching only or fifferent typ of stretching, so yeah in theory you can use words that Luffy is strechy but it is important to remember he is made of ruber and his power is ruber you can even start to think wgat ability ruber has that Luffy could use bc ryber don't only stretch, bc a lot of things stretch in the end of day... With Zoro backstory it was at begining of manga too, so like 30 years ago, most fans think that Oda-sensei didn't whant to show kid death so Kuinas was never shown how it happened but in manga and anime they show body of her at ceremony - to say farwell, and they go with coffin to cemetary so yeah there is body, they simply didn't show here it, they made it short and simply...

I've mentioned this on a few other reacts, in the manga/anime she's dead (her body is shown). Her death is . . . contentious. She died falling down a flight of stairs. While some point to that as good character development for Zoro (he has to strive every day to be the best swordsman, because he doesn't know how much time he has left) there are others who dislike the 'fell down stairs' angle because it makes her look weak and takes away any badassery points she had. Leaving it vauge is the best of both worlds as it keeps the bit about 'you never know how much time you have left' without making her look super weak by dyign to something as simple as falling down stairs (especially when you have Zoro shrugging off repeated 10m+ falls down that well like it's nothing.) On a different note, it is explained in the manga/anime that when Kuro does his super speed move he can't really see where he's going/react fast enough to his own speed. So he kinda just has to use his best guess or attack blindly, which is why he didn't murder Ussopp or auto-win against Luffy. He may have just messed up and not put his claws out in time.

Oda confirmed that Kuina is definitely dead in an SBS. Her being alive would mess with Zoro's character since her death was meant to be his character motivator.

Please don't mind their accents too much. Teenage Luffy's actor (the one we see usually) is Mexican, Garp's actor is Sccottish and young Luffy is...American I think. 11:05 in the manga, she fell down the stairs. Also in the manga, the reason why she said a woman can't beat a man is because her dad (the trainer) is kinda sexist and he said he wouldn't let her run the dojo or something to that effect. Also, in the manga while there's no body, there was a casket and so far in 1074 episodes, there's no mention of her again really. She does have an older look alike, but there's no evidence that's her. And we're beyond the point of where she is alive. Fun facts: As soon as they got the ship, the Going Merry, the series remixed the first opening of the anime AND the reason Kaya wants to be a doctor is that she wants to heal Usopp in case there was any chance Usopp came back hurt and she can heal him after he comes back if that ever happens.
