I absolutely love this look. I had cabinets installed in a rental property but the space just above the stove I decided to install shelves and stain the same color as the cabinets. I'd paint my pipes white b/c of the appliances. This is gorge.

Other than painting the pipes am liking the shelf. I would like to take. Out my wall cardboard and do this. But am wonder what is the max length you can do on these. Should I add another row or 2 of the support pipe
@BarryFromEastenders4 жыл бұрын
With those 12" pipes you used, is there 12 inches clearance with the bracket and end portion attached or is that the length of the pipe with nothing on it. ?? Thanks
@justmynamehere6 жыл бұрын
1. Find your wall studs & use that (16" on center) measurement to space your pipes. 2. Dont paint the galvanized 3. Use reclaimed lumber to save distressing 4. Don't attach end caps so you can attach the pipe fittings to the wall studs THEN slide your shelf onto the pipes & screw on end caps. 5. You're welcome

This is some $50 - $100 project material cost, even in US where the material seems to cost a lot less compared to other countries. It will greatly depend on if you already own wood stain, polyurethane and misc bits.

@hushg20005 жыл бұрын
Problem with most people is that: 1. they have no clue where the stud is at if it’s tiled up 2. The studs don’t line up perfectly from one end to the other for proper centering ... most of the time the studs are off

`Wall anchors? Could you not make the shelves fit the spacing between studs? You cannot use drywall plastic anchors for such heavy shelves loaded with heavy plates. You skipped the most important part - showing how you attached shelf stands to wall. Here is how to attach shelves to the tiled wall: 1. The tile is ceramic and only 1/4" thick. Behind the tile is a thin layer of thinset mortar (tile cement paste), then a backerboard (cement type board), then drywall (plaster sandwiched between cardboard). None of these materials have the tensile strength to hold up a heavy shelf, with heavier dishes on it. You cannot just put some flimsy plastic anchors and screws, it will fail immediately upon loading. All dishes will break! Very shallow DIY. 2. Get a stud finder. A good one costs $40 at Home Depot. Do not buy this online. Cheap ones are useless. This will come in handy every time you hang a picture, so good investment. 3. Using stud finder along the wall, set to DEEP SCAN, find the studs behind the tile and mark them. New houses is 12" on center. Old vintage houses is 16" on center. Spend time doing this step correctly, no rush. 4. Buy a masonry drill bit big enough for a size 8 or 10 screw. This size refers to the diameter of the screw. Length depends on how many materials this is going to penetrate before it hits the wood stud behind the tile, backerboard, drywall, wood stud (column). 5. Using a hammer drill or regular drill set to hammer function, and your special masonry drill bit, drill a hole slightly into the stud, not all the way in. When the screw passes through it should have some traction on the wood stud. A hammer drill action does a bit of hammering while it also rotates, so you have two motions during drilling. This helps the drill bit penetrate masonry. Masonry drill bits and hammer drill is also very useful for making holes in ceramic pots (drip some water as you are drilling), and into concrete walls to hang plants. 6. Fill holes with Loctite Power Grab construction glue, then screw in the rod flanges. I like this better than Liquid Nails but its very similar. This cushions the screw and gives it more strength. 7. The large round flange is not ideal for tile mounting. You will stress out the tile with 3 holes in each tile! The screws are so spread out that they may miss the stud behind and go past. This is okay for wall mounting but technically difficult for tiled walls. Not sure what these folks did as it was not explained. 8. Note: Open shelving is not functional in the kitchen. It may look nice but consider the grease from cooking settling on your dishes, dust, earthquake issues in CA, insects... do you want to wash each dish before eating on it? Its unhygienic and impractical. Put up a cabinet instead. And don't tile up the whole wall, another dumb idea. Grout lines collect grease and dust. After 6 months, this will look trashed.
@hushg20005 жыл бұрын
How are you going to stress the tile if you’re screwing to the stud? You silly ....
