You just can't dislike Sean Longstaff. Im modern football where many of them are overpaid, media-lobotomised, entitled divas, he's such a refreshing, unglamorous, humble "celeb" who is aware of his limitations on the pitch, acknowledges he's living the dream, but at heart has remained a family man, a Newcastle fan, and just a good natured person. He's made the scapegoat quite a lot, and I think he's been a victim of the unfair expectations we put on homegrown lads... they string together a few decent cameos and we hope they're the next Shearer. Looked fantastic at Blackpool in League One and then looked very comfortable under a tactician like Rafa but it all fell apart under Bruce. Probably through a mixture of the injury, covid, poor coaching, and unfair fan expectations He's never gonna be a bonafide starter while the likes of Joelinton, Bruno, Tonali and Willock are fit, but he's living the dream and fair play for staying humble and likable. The bit where he treats every game like his last is very poignant. Life is too quick not to savour every moment!
@nectarinedreams7208Ай бұрын
I think he's representative of the vast majority of footballers, tbh. It's only a very small minority that are paid absolutely enormous salaries and act entitled. Most footballers are just your average, decent blokes.

@daniel4224 Well, he's played in the Premier League and the Champions League. What percentage of people who've kicked a ball get to say that? You don't get to play at that level by not being very good. Is he as good as others at his level? No. He didn't get there by being lucky. He's probably in the top 5-10 % of people who play football. It's not bad for not being very good. Try not to say stupid things in the future

We took Toon Army Baltimore and Toon Army DC to watch Matty play for Toronto against DC United. There was about 40 Newcastle Fans in the crowd all cheering him on. Then we got to meet him after the match. I think Matty was chuffed to bits to see how many Newcastle fans were there, and was equally chuffed that we were there for him.
@tekhead645810 күн бұрын
Love this. The lads make a really good point about when things are Not going well the kids who came through the Academy or local players are criticised more than other players. I think the reason for that is because we love our local players so much, that when the team is not doing well, the fans feel hurt by poor results and performances and those that we love most bear the brunt of our disappointment. Probably more education needed.
