@daynosdr
@daynosdr 9 ай бұрын
Except its for show. 24/7 and 365 and no downtime, at 3 mins a fork would be 175,200 forks per year. says right there below the title that they produce a million bikes a year. If you were really QCing every fork with this machine or similar, you would have a computer do it, and you would only use humans to inspect any forks that have an anomaly. It's clear that this tour guide is very much a marketeer and not an engineer.
@cup_and_cone
@cup_and_cone 9 ай бұрын
@@daynosdrYes, I too am skeptical as the math does not make sense. That's only 15-20 forks an hour, which is a really low rate. With x-ray a human still needs to manually review the scans for anomalies. At 7:19 you can see scan totals from 6,000-10,000 per month and rejection rates...so maybe 100,000 forks a year.

No company anywhere that’s mass producing anything can or would QC every single piece. It’s not sustainable. Most take a random number of samples from a batch or set number of product produced and check them. (Ex, every 5th one out of 50, etc…) Over the course of many batches they can relatively safely assume that based on the sample checks that each of those batches is as good (or possibly bad) as what the batch sample test shows. I don’t think they’re trying to say they check every single one, but if so, I’m sure there’s an internet math nerd who can definitely prove/disprove it.

I'm Taiwanese, and ride Giant TCR Advanced, too. I would like to share a little story about Giant founder Mr. Liu. THX for Giant's founder Mr. Liu, he integrated rivals & vendors to define components specific (except drivetrain) in early 2000. So that bicycle OEM quality in Taiwan was improved due to the alliance. That's why Taiwan has another well know brand such as Merida & KMC & FSA(vision) & Topeak.

I bought a Cadex (Giant) carbon fiber frame mountain bike in 1990. Still rolling with: replaced derailleurs, wheels, crank, brakes, shock, and cables. [Hit by a car running a red in 2005, throwing the bike (and me) down the street about 30 meters.] The only minor issue was when I put disc breaks and new shock on the front, which raised the headset about 3.5 cm (~inch and a half) resulting in some faint crackling sounds when I rode for a few years. I’m sure the change in force direction put unusual stress on the frame…though after 10 years more riding, no noticeable effect. Frame could use new clear coat !

This might be my last bike because I'm 59 years old, but I still want to have some enjoyment and I like that 2-year warranty about if anything goes wrong with the frame along with a lifetime warranty. I love the black and sapphire color, just like a team giant bike. I know canyon has their bikes made over in Taiwan, but it's a 6-year warranty. I've also I like being different. When it comes to different brands. Giant has the best warranty for a carbon bike.

Great to see that bikes made in Taiwan are among the best in the world. The filament to sheet tech was good to understand. More info about directional layups for different areas of the frame would be even more so. …Interestingly the new 3T made in Italia bikes now utilize a unique carbon filament winding process, whereby the majority of the frame is wound rather than laid up in sheets. That would be a very interesting comparison.

A friend of mine had a Giant TCR bike back in 2018 and he had to get the frame replaced under warranty due to the paint around the bottom bracket area cracking due to movement in the area. This is a common issue on giant bikes as what I have been told that most probably go back at least 10yrs. After my friend received a new bike build, he sold the bike. I would trust Giant with a 1000ft pole. A bicycle store back in the 90's in Melbourne told me about this issue and he would not sell them.

@9:17 he says front triangle is one single part & it's a single piece mold @9:22 worker moves the top tube away from the seat tube. That looks to me like individual pieces are being joined together to make one part. Not the same as "one piece"

You did the best to share the insides of Giant! Thanks for that! But with all respect I felt the company a dictatorship. Was hard to see the control over the workers, it was a sad feeling. I will not buy Giant anymore.

I don't really understand how you get to that point. Why you didn't think that guy is controlling the visitors? Maybe you think that guy spends the whole journey standing there? controlling what? BTW, you will not buy any other brand neither, as most of them are made in that same factory or Merida factory which is in that same part of the world.
