I've come to expect objective and thorough reviews from you, Matt, and this is no exception. As an owner, I agree wholeheartedly with all that you've said. I will add that although the suspension is not firm enough, I drove the car with spirit on some badly corrugated dirt roads near Armidale whilst on a trip with my wife, and it was fantastic; and before that in northern NSW on some shockingly potholed back roads, again the car was admirable, with no skipping off-line (something my Outback would do, especially if the dumb turkeys in the service department overinflated the tyres) when encountering a hole mid-corner. If the revised suspension loses this, I'd be very disappointed. Dust sealing is first-class too. My experience has not been all beer and skittles, but BYD customer service went above and beyond, providing by far the best service and solution I have ever experienced. (If you'd like to know more, I can drop an email.) Boot space is strange: width and length is about 4cm less than my Outback while the load depth to the top of the back seats is a little more. And yet I could fit all the items in (that I'd habitually squeeze into my Outback) for a road trip that my wife usually wants packed. In all, I'm delighted with the car.

I think it is better to fill it more often but don't do a full tank at once - put a little but more often. By doing that you add a fresh petrol to the old one that has been sitting in your tank for a while which helps the petrol to retain its additives The more a fuel sits in a tank - the worse it becomes so adding a bit of fresh fuel is good for the car.

It’s so quiet and comfortable, the tech is incredible and I am saving a lot on fuel compared to the 2016 Tucson petrol 2.0 I had before. I have been charging mainly during the day using my solar power and the slow charger so I am not drawing power from the grid. I have used only 20 litres of fuel and have done 2000kms so far. I have had all sorts of cars in the past, including many BMWs, and hands down this car is the best value for money ever. Great car to drive and very efficient on fuel. Only issues I've found are an overly sensitive auto braking system where I've had no hazards and the car has braked automatically which could have caused an accident. Also hate that the unlock on the handle isn't touch to unlock, but button push. Have had some issues with the supplied home charger, working for the moment but it sometimes wants to charge and other times doesn't. Left my wife in the car as well to go into the shops, she had the keys and I get phone notifications saying I left my child in the car and the alarm is going off. Great feature for a child but a pain for my wife. The suspension is too soft that you can feel every speed bump you go over aggressively. A sports mode button would be a much better feature. Battery drains so fast when any aircon or music is on. Had an issue with the latest update stuffing up the android auto, so had to do a factory reset to get it to work again. Overall it is worth the money paid but there is definitely some bugs that need to be fixed to make this a serious leader in the market

I've read the changes are to the suspension design - going from three link to five link IRS. No idea if that is true or not, but I guess the question will be how they tune it. If it remains softly sprung and a bit under-damped, will still be a bit squidgy at higher speeds on bumpy/twisty roads.

Now, the price gap between the two models becomes more expansive as the price of the Dynamic version is down by $3000. The $7000 gap makes buyers hesitate to go for Dynamic one. Byd made a big mistake by not applying a discount to both models, as the Tesla Model Y Juniper was released a few days before. Despite the difference between EV and PHEV, I believe many people may consider going for Model Y instead, for the lower model that costs A$63,400. I only hope that Byd would apply the same or higher discount to the premium model of Sealion 6 at the same time they announce Sealion 7 in mid Feb. If the price difference between Sealion 6 and 7 is not large enough and similarly that between Sealion 7 and Tesla model Y, most people will go for Tesla model Y for sure.

As a comparison the very old and tired Toyota Rav4 AWD hybrid with an up to 6 month wait still managed to sell 1877 in November! I hope Australia does better in sales of the Sealion because getting beaten by over 120 units by the very old Eclipse Cross phev is very disappointing! Oh never mind I now know why brand new the Eclipse Cross phev is $45k for the top spec while in our market the Sealion starts at $58k! Its called phev dumping just like our EV market drop the price to move it and never sell them again

@petercrawford3370Ай бұрын
The Eclipse Cross lacks so much of the tech that the BYD has, so I don't get why they sell so well compared to the BYD. And yeah, the RAV's numbers of November was more than impressive. I think the Sealion just offers a lot more value, style and tech. The Rav almost seems stale in the style department. And the BYD offers more space between the A and B pillars and for us older folks, slightly easier to get in and out of. It just doesn't make sense that they're not selling in good numbers, cause it's a heck of a lot of car. Now I'm going to make absolutely no sense at all....even though I really like the Sealion, I've ordered the new CRV AWD Sports Premium. It was the comfort, space and drive difference that sold me on the Honda. And that 1.5 Turbo that doesn't need the more expensive juice to run on sure helps to. Lovely motor and a very elegant drive. Granted it doesn't come close to the AWD Sealion on power, and that where it doesn't make any sense that I've chosen the CRV over it. There you go. the CRV made me feel happier and I guess that is what matters.

This is just my view you obviously have your own view, to me BYD have yet to show the AU market anything of substance to convince buyers that there cars will last 3 to 5 years of hard ownership, I know people that have purchased BYD based on the "sugar hit" and within 3 month regretted it and lost big money off loading them, now that is also true of most brands in the market place but the "China brigade" hits harder as most don't want to buy them as 2nd hand which means good luck with resale if you are an owner. The same happens to those who were fooled into buy Tesla on novated leases, they all took a bath in acid and yeah once burnt never burnt again.

I hear you mate. Investing in any new brand is a risk.

Car is not an investment property, those people need to change their mindset when buying a car. If they want to save money on a car then only stick to second-hand market where the car has already fully depreciated, that is how you save money on a car.

Cool story bro.

Novated Leases for EVs are FBT exempt on all costs including finance costs, EVs also came with rebates for a time, still do in WA and in some states no stamp duty. If you are paying a high marginal tax rate it will be significantly cheaper than buying outright, especially if you negotiate the interest rate. Also interesting that you know many BYD owners who regretted their purchase after 3 months, I don't see virtually any in the comments section of videos I watch and I watch a lot, on the contrary people seem very satisified.

shit warranty... gutless of them not to go unlimited km like other chinese cars
@therightcarАй бұрын
I wouldn’t say it’s shit. Mitsubishi doesn’t have unlimited…. Would you say the same about their warranty?

ugly wheel design, small boot size compared to similar sized cars, could be $5k cheaper, resale likely terrible.

Okay 👌 so what would you buy instead?

China 🇨🇳 has the Australian 🇦🇺 motoring press in its pocket 🙄 I just hope and pray that the Australian public resists the urge to fall into the trap 🙏
@therightcarАй бұрын
No it doesn’t. Consumers buy what is best for them. China is making cars that are better than the established players based on pricing and technology. Its simple. Make better stuff, achieve more sales.

@@therightcar Matt I had to thumbs down you for this comment. No one knows the longevity of the petrol engines also the electrics (not battery but the actual electrics), also you have to have the car services at MyCar (former KMart Auto) and yeah they are not known to be nice to customers.

@@therightcarCorrect. It's wild that people are so scared of china
@351tgvАй бұрын
@@onetwothreefour-s1n Not afraid of China at all, the issue here is that BYD and other China car manufactures have yet to show any market outside of China that there cars will old any value in 3 to 5 years time. Tried getting parts for a SIAC owned brand like MG or LDV? good luck with the wait times, same applies to BYD. If BYD were so serious about the AU market then they would not have come to our market via a 3rd party like EV Direct, to me that suggest they have no faith in their products.

@@351tgv Reflect on the chinese domestic market, the most competitive in the world. They sell 30 million vehicles a year and legacy brands are getting destroyed there, they are discounting 20/30/40% just to move stock. Australian market, if it were to remain open to chinese automakers will see this trend within the next 5 years, its inevitable despite whatever cope the internet has to argue.
