It's crazy how this video defines a certain time of hip hop, Thought (I love how he is dressed in it btw), Badu, Common, the nod to Elysée Montmartre, the best concert venue in Paris. Back then soulquarians were the definition of good taste in hip hop, they were producing for everyone, D'Angelo had released Voodoo, Dilla was still alive, Hip hop shows were still pure raw good energy. I miss these beautiful times...

+douglas douga Erykah is singing her part and Eve is rapping the second verse. "You Got Me" was co-written by musician Jill Scott, who recorded vocals for the song's chorus and bridge. Her part was subsequently re-recorded by Badu at the insistence of MCA Records, who wanted a higher-profile collaboration for the album's official lead single (at the time, Scott was relatively unknown outside of Philadelphia ). When the group later went on tour, Scott joined them during performances of the song. The original version was later released on the 2005 compilation Home Grown! The Beginners Guide to Understanding the Roots, Volume One.

"You Got Me" was a Grammy winning song with a groundbreaking video. Before post 2000 apocalypse movies like "28 Days Later" made people disappear with special effects and city streets empty of life, the video director did it with a city devoid of life with Black Thought being the last man alive as he leaves his apartment to find his woman. The powerful twist at the end has Black Thought lay down to join his woman in death, but to find out he's the only one dead as a gunshot victim and everyone dead were actually alive.
