@@dannish8119 I mean in fantasy medieval setting mate, not modern mecha one. Though FM games are indeed awesome and it's a shame they're no longer mecha SRPG since FM Evolved. And more than that, if we look a bit closer, the political theme between those two is also different IMO. Matsuno games are political drama akin to ASoIaF, they mostly feature rivaling noble factions, class conflicts, corrupt elites, religion, noble ideals vs utopianism vs good old power politics and such. On the other hand, the typical FM narratives are mostly about realism in international relations stuff: struggle for power and conflict of interests between nation-states and also other actors especially MNCs, realpolitik and geopolitical stuffs, the clash between state actors and non-state ones, etc. It is more classical realist scenarios than the Waltzian neo-realist ones for sure.

I can honestly say this game changed my life. I got it as a birthday gift when I was not even 10 years old and I have played it almost yearly since then. There's something so beautiful and enthralling about the game. I can't quite tell if it is the characters, the sprites, the stories, or "what if" questions I still have about certain characters. It all just comes together perfectly and I have never been able to stay away for more than a year at a time. I feel like this is not only a beautifully engineered game but a true work of art. Every year I get a little taste of the child-like wonder I first experienced when I removed the plastic from the game, popped in the disk into my Playstation and got sucked into FFT. I like d the three games, but definitely FFT/FFTWOL was the best for me. The story, the gameplay, the characters, the HERO, the ending. One of my favorite games overall. I loved how FFTWOL added a lot of the things I thought were missing when I was a child: More interaction of the characters even after joining, Agrias meeting Ovelia once more (and that dagger, well done), Meliadoul confronting her father, Wiegraf recruited by Rofel, and Kletianne having an introduction (and an extra scene with Meliadoul), Beowulf and Reis having a closure to their stories, I was very surprised that most of what I dreamed in that game was fulfilled. Only one thing didn't happen, fixing Cloud as better Character, adding more story to him, adding Tifa, and adding a battle with Sephiroth. Luso was a nice addition. What's I didn't like from FFTWOL, Onion Knights, the requisite for Dark Knight, the lag, and Balthier (I don't like FF12 characters). The Advance games, I like them, but they aren't something marvelous either. The games are full of subquests that detract you from the real story, and the story of both games is not that great either because the real focus of the Advance games are the subquests. The characters aren't that great either, and you couldn't even name your generic units (I hated that). Nowadays I still play FFT a lot, sometimes if I am in the mood I play FFTA. I don't play FFTA2 anymore, the number of quests is just so overwhelming for me nowadays.

A warning about playing the psp version would be nice. ~Warning~ The PsP version has an notorious bug that slows down all processing (video and audio) causing distorted audio and out of sync battle animations every time a character uses a special ability (and i think also spell). This can make the game unplayable for many. The only solution is to patch a digital version of the game with a user made patch mod. To my knowledge, the Ps1 Classic digital download available on home console does not have this issue, but all War of the Lions versions do.
@revlarmilion95744 жыл бұрын
Not entirely correct. The War of the Lions version made for apple devices doesn't have this bug and is sadly the only one not to. The retranslation, if you're not willing to play a patched PSX rom with a fanmade one, is essential to experiencing the story the way it was intended, so the remaster is better than the original US release.

I don't know, Luso's goal was to find a way back home. If nothing else I am amused that it's an isekai story that doesn't GTFO to another world and forgets everything about where the MC came from, like most manga/anime/LNs. And of course, never forget, Marche did nothing wrong. ... Okay no but seriously, as derpy as the dialogue was now and then, Marche had a decent goal based on the rejection of escapism. The game could probably have made it clearer that the world is fake, but otherwise... yeah, poor Marche gets bashed a lot.
@SeventhheavenDK4 жыл бұрын
Luso's goal was to find a way back home, while enjoying the alternate world. About Marche, yeah, I also hate how he gets bashed for being the only one with reasoning. Also, people bash him for what he tells to Doned, that his problems are not as bad as Doned, I disagree. Nowadays I am a teacher, and I can tell you that being a neglected child (as Marche was) can have a lot of negative effects on them, unless they are very resilient.
@SingeScorcher4 жыл бұрын
I would also put in that Marche's friends were beginning to show some negative sides to their escapism. Mewt in particular with the world being based more closely on his desires, as his need for everything to go his way caused a lot of trouble for people he considered his friends, at times putting their lives at risk. He started a self destructive spiral and IIRC (it's been YEARS) very nearly cut off any chance of him having friends or companions ever again, starting down the path of a paranoid tyrant. As for Luso's story..... He didn't really have one. Luso was a flat character that influenced those around him, causing them to have the interesting stories where they learned lessons and dealt with their demons. Which is fine, flat character arcs can really make your world pop with interesting conflicts and sub plots (Look at Dragon Ball and One Piece) but it does make it harder to write a climax that we're invested in. I remember not being very invested in the final battle of A2, and pretty much stopped using Luso in the late game/post game content where I could. Whereas I was gripping my old GBA in suspense during the climax of Marche's story and I only excluded Marche from the party if I just didn't need his moveset or was in dire need to level up other characters.
@dawk74 жыл бұрын
@@SingeScorcher In a sense, it's interesting how Luso is barely a protagonist in his tale. His story is that of a record keeper, to act as the driving objective of the party... but he's just, not the protagonist. His objective is to complete his book, and he achieves that by filling it with the tales of those that surround him. He remains an outsider to the tale and to the land, from beginning to end. It's not a very standard tale, but that's what makes the game as a whole interesting, isn't it?
@SingeScorcher4 жыл бұрын
@@dawk7 Yeah it does. By extension, it puts the player in the position of the watcher/recordkeeper as well, making for a unique perspective of the whole thing. Maybe I found the climax to be lackluster because of the sudden focus on Luso. The rest of the game had him as the observer so to have him suddenly be the protag/hero in short bursts throughout made it jarring. .....OR maybe it's just my personal bias against his general character archetype of the laid back goofball as I don't find them as interesting for main characters. That being said, I loved the ending. Him waking up in the library and talking to Mr. Randell (whom I didn't recognize was Mewt till that moment) and them actually sharing that experience was a fantastic "OMG these games ARE connected" moment.

I absolutely loved playing war of the lions on PSP (I've not played the rest) and every couple of years since I've tried to find something else to live up to that (without having any of console to play on most the time unfortunately). I've just started playing war of the visions on mobile, which i would recommend if you want a free to play game with similar tactical game play to tactics (but lacking in many many other ways). I've also recently found war of the lions is available on mobile now too so if anyone else misses these games, that's worth checking out

How to make every FF fan happy: Announce a Tactics sequel....
@aussakagamine88624 жыл бұрын
its nice to know tactics isnt actually forgotten it they just havent made a new game for the tactics series, now that brave exvious war of the lions (the new tactics mobile game) is out in global im betting profits off of that game will go to possibly a new tactics project, cosnidering ramza/orlandu were very recent collab units so def not forgotten at all. Tactics advanced is what got me into final fantasy and im glad the spirit of tactics is not dead. also thought ramza being in dissidia NT was pretty cool too

I loved this game growing up. Play it all the time and STILL learning as I go. Like how awesome mimes are and the black mage samurai. You are in the middle of a war and ALL sides are gunning for you, including your best friend and brothers. I feel like I'm banging my head against the wall trying to explain to people why it's better than. Ff7 or ff9.

Tactics is my fav FF game. The twists in the story are amazing. The music is gold. I am desperate for a PS4/5 remake so it finally gets the love it deserves!!

FFT is such a unique game. It's like the most advanced version of Chess you can play. I've never played a game quite like it. It gets even better when you discover how difficult it is and how rewarding it is to figure out how to formulate battle plans. To give the game even further credence; the story is absolutely fantastic. It's a masterpiece of a game. Definitely in my top 5 favorite FF games.

Halfway through? Probably on riovanes castle since it is a pain in the ass to complete

Everyone did, I think. I softlocked there for a week until I managed to push past that level through sheer perseverance.

I'm a little surprised you didn't mention the Tactics Ogre PSP remake. Since FFT was essentially a focussed version of the Chaos route in that game, they brought back a lot of the team, as well as Matsuno "excuse me while I cram 80 more features in here" himself. They gave it a skill system that carried over many aspects from FFT, albeit arguably better balanced (like Hamedo being Preempt, a skill that Swordmasters could use as a prediction move). They also heavily referenced Vagrant Story, even retconning the series' Angel Knights to be made using an item from VS, and giving every unit Finishers using the same names, and sometimes animations from VS. personally I consider it the end point of the "Matsuno Line" of games, and they really treated that thing like a swan song, going out of their way to cram WAY more stuff in there than most ever even saw. I've been doing challenges of it for 10 years, and still find new stuff regularly.

Part of me likes that Uematsu didn't make the score. The score was well made and is unique to FFT.

There’s a game called Fell Seal arbiters mark on many consoles. Highly recommended. Made by two people I believe

Thanks and loved your vid sir about Tactics! Just wanted to share you info that SquarE released FFBE War of the Visions on mobile and has been in service since last November. It doesn't have the 'Tactics' title on it and it's under the FFBE label, but the game has deep roots based on the old FFT which me and a lot of my friends who were also great fans of PS FFT love playing it since its release. I assume this was not included in your video because technically this new game is under FFBE umbrella and has no 'Tactics' mentioned in it.

I've only played the War of the Lions on android late last year and man it's sooooo gooooood. It's so fun to mix and match to adapt to whatever the enemies are. I've also played the Tactics on gameboy. Always enjoyed replaying it back to the beginning. Lategame, always hearing the critical hits, oneshotting the enemies is so OP lol

My first FF game was FF7 and I still consider it one of my favorites but Final Fantasy Tactics was just special. I played them both again and again and never got tired. To this day, the ending still haunts me lol

32 years old. I first got this game maybe 6 months after release. I've beaten this game at least 50 times since then. One of the greatest of all time. I've tried other games in the 'genre', and none of them compare to me. Closest was Disgaea, but when i got to the point they started to incorporate the colored grids, i quit.

Tactics advanced was SE taking a big ol shit on the perfection that was Final Fantasy Tactics. This was right after Squaresoft and Enix merged and it was the first time they would fuck up a once beloved Squaresoft title, but it wouldn't be the last.

We need a final fantasy tactics with upgraded graphics, new jobs, and a competitive multiplayer where we can play one on one with the team of your creation on the P.C!!! lets go!!!
