Just came home after a run after watching your tips. Noticed I was dragging my feet and holding my pelvis kind of behind my body, fixed those according to your advice, and wow, ran faster, longer and lighter straight away. So it felt important to come back and say a big thank you for your expert advice. You're making a difference, thanks so much!

I'm onto week 5 of C25K now, and having watched this and checked my posture for the last three weeks, I have found the tension in my neck, shoulders and lower back have disappeared, and running is so much more enjoyable. Thank you so much. Why don't they teach this in Phys Ed at school? I learnt so many bad habits back at school and hated sports as a result but now I am really enjoying it.

Man i dont know what to do next . I used to run with not such an ideal body poster . But with time I was improving my distance at a good rate . But then i thought of applying better running form and now my distance is all messed up . Then I even tried going back to MY normal . But i couldnt help but notice my form . Now I am running with good technique but very less distance . BTW its been only 4 days since I improved my technique . Will see how much time will it take to run same distance as before .

Yea its the form that will get you in the beginning. Just keep working at proper form and it will come easier to you, and eventually as your body gets used to the new form/working different muscles, your running will become far more efficient and less sore.

Forward lean is good. It helps you use the force of gravity, as long as you lean from the ankles, in a full body lean.
@pollux_id2557
@pollux_id2557 3 жыл бұрын
yea i was going to mention the lean as well. If you run ramrod straight, your back and shoulders are gonna hurt pretty bad the next day.
@andrewphillips3973

@@pollux_id2557 holding yourself straight, then yes.... the trick is to find upright and then relax with it... the body work in unison better for distance running with the body and head being directly above your mid sole foot strikes... a forward lean should only regularly be seen in sharp accelerations

Your "somewhere between high knees and butt kicks" illustration helps a lot. I've been running since May of this year and have built up to 8 miles on my long run, but with bad form. Literally, I just started working on correcting my form this week. It's awkward right now and I might have to slow things down for the time being, but my knees and hips are already feeling better. Thanks for the video!
@TheRunExperience

Hi Alan! Great job on building up your endurance! You're right, though, that sometimes we have to slow down a bit to fix things and improve. We like to practice the drills in isolation at the start of the run, and then integrate them into the run.

Thanks! First "official" run this morning using the correct form. It was both easier and more difficult. Easier on my knees and hips. In fact, these didn't hurt at all. I felt noticeably lighter on my feet. But it felt unnatural and seemed aerobically harder. Maybe because I had gotten used to running incorrectly and need some time to adapt. Also, I may have exaggerated the knee lift which could have been harder on my quads. Anyway, I'll keep working on it until it clicks. Things at least seem to be heading in the right direction. :)

I love this video! I watched it yesterday before heading out for my run. My goal at this point is to just increase my distance, but after applying the body mechanics taught here, my speed improved as well--immediately! Last weekend I tortured myself for 12.75 miles and was very sore for several days afterwards; my average speed was 5.9 mph. Yesterday, I ran 14.25 miles easily and my average speed was 6.7 mph!!!!! I don't feel sore today at all. What a huge difference these simple changes have made. I'm just shy of 56 years old, and plan on running my first marathon at the end of April. Holly, I'll have you to thank when I cross that finish line---thank you!!!
