I’ve listened to my old rv . It’s a Winnebago adventurer.. it’s a 2001. With almost 100k miles on it zero break downs on anything.. just general maintenance.. I think it’s good for another 100k

I’d like to hear the rest of the story about the car. We’ve developed a weekly and monthly checklist of things to do such as check all the fluids in the vehicles, tire pressure, etc. Recently we shared that information at a family gathering and no one else does this but they thought it was humorous that we do. Then came all their stories about mishaps they could have avoided if they checked things once in a while. Be proactive rather than reactive.

When I was a lot younger, my older brother sold me his 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 that had been in the family for probably close to 10 years. It looked great, it was a convertible, and it even ran great, most of the time. But it had this weird noise. Didn’t know what it was. He said it was just the way it was and him being two years older than me at the time I figured he knew all of this stuff a lot better than I did. well, not necessarily, so I figured out. The noise was sort of a clank and sort of a knock and sort of not either one of them. It wasn’t always there, but it was always there when I had my girlfriend in the car. I thought maybe it was just jealous of me or something. well, after about eight months of it trying to talk to me, like you said, and me not listening very well, like a teenager turning 20 normally does, one day it decided to start banging pretty loud. Even I knew that was not good. The local gas station mechanic (you remember when they had those, right?) told me that it had thrown a rod and the engine was shot. But I managed to drive it over here, I said. He said you could drive it if you want, but someday real soon it’s gonna quit running completely on you. I drove to work that night (working night shift at a factory) and it was really talking loud to me all the way there. I figured it was pretty well ready to stop talking, pretty soon. A guy at work always liked my car so I told him it’s got this big noise. I don’t know what it is, but I hear the engines about to quit on it, but I’ll sell it to you if you want. he gave me $110. that was 1967. Moral of the story? If you listen long enough, pretty soon there won’t be anything to listen to and that’s when it’ll really cost you money. I think I managed to get some money out of that, although I didn’t get much out of the car. ever since then, I listen a lot closer to the cars I drive and the slightest thing that is wrong, makes me start digging and talking to the local dealer and anyone else who has any clue about what it is, along with a little help from professor Google, of course.. you are right, Allan, you have to listen. It doesn’t matter whether it’s your car, your RV, your wife, or one of your kids. Disregard any one of them at your own and you will see what peril really is!

1 and 2, I think being able to speak and understand another language go hand in hand. Not sure how you can be at least partly capable in one and not the other. Situational awareness is a basic necessity in life. That can be interpreted in a number of ways. Primarily I think it tends to increase with experience and time. Hopefully we learn from our bad decisions not to make the same mistake twice. Some of us learn by being taught by others who have made mistakes, some of us have to experience that pain ourselves in order to learn, the more expensive way. I can still remember one time when we were having a dinner party at our house here in Florida when part way through it, our AC quit. Amazing how quickly you notice it in a climate that is hot like Texas. It sure kept the party from lingering into the wee hours! So, what was the cause of the drastic oil consumption in your car? Did you trade it in? Stay safe, Alan, hope the hurricane isn't bad where you are.

It's very difficult, given all the information available (e.g., KZbin channels, various online review sites, even reviews on RV Trader and other sites) for a consumer not to be educated when going to an RV dealer. There is such a thing as being willfully ignorant, or lazy, I suppose but with all the data available, consumers should have the information they need to understand their RVs and transactions related thereto and make informed decisions. Folks who make poor financial decisions usually make lots of them, a cascading set of financial failures getting them deeper into financial holes. They just can't help themselves.

Here's one Alan, are RV owners repacking their wheel bearings every 10K miles or 12 months, whichever comes first? How about the RV dealerships? Doubt it.

@@Henle15 It's sad. Probably more than 50% of cargo trailers I see on the side of the road are from failed wheel bearings, not flat tires. Not sure about travel trailers, but probably more than I would imagine.

What brand of car is it? I don’t know of many diesel cars are made anymore. What was the problem that caused it to use 85 qts. of oil in 500 miles?
