We decided to leave full time and buy another sticks and bricks. Two years ago we had a lease on a lot in Lake Ray Roberts campground at the Marina behind the Elks club. A while back a tornado leveled that campground. So sorry for our previous neighbors that lost their homes. To those who are living full time and traveling please be aware of the weather and where your closest shelter is located.

Set aside six to nine months of savings for emergencies, RV or no RV. No less than six months and more is better. I know many full-timers who are happy, but they have exceptionally built RVs and stay in place, rarely moving around, and live in very high-quality RVs. Not super expensive; quality is everything. Top to bottom, front to back. No different than living aboard a boat, which I've done. You go for super high quality first and foremost, not size, how many berths, or how many 'nice to haves'. Quality is everything.

I bought my bumper pull RV new in 2019, before the pandemic. Still I knew RV warranties are too much of a hassle to deal with and I'm very handy at building trades and don't trust dealer repair personnel. I bought new because I wanted to special order colors and features. My strategy was to purchase from a dealer right next door to the manufacturer so I could get factory fixes and repairs before taking delivery. Sure as night follows day my inspection at the dealership turned up several items to fix. My unit went next door to the factory. I spoke directly to the factory quality control man and after repairs I inspected it again before it left the factory. My first year under warranty came and went without problems. Since then I have done my own repairs on minor expected items. I know my method is not very practical for most but it worked for me.

Our plan is to buy an RV while we still have our current home and really use it for several months to get a good feel for the life and then sell our home to buy a large piece of land which we will find while traveling in the RV. Then we will slowly build up the property to eventually add a house and transition the RV to a truly extra recreational vehicle.

I have been Living in a 2008 Fleetwood pusher for two years. That was not my original intention when I sold my house in the Southern California. But I have been enjoying it so much and I have kept the maintenance under control. My cost of living is substantially less than anything sticks and bricks that I could rent. I wake up every morning, and I think God for the roof over my head and for the happiness that this RV brings me which is much more than a stick and bricks expensive place in Southern California. I’m actively looking for a stick and Bicks place in the Sunbelt, but so far I’ve not found anything that has brought me the happiness that I have living in the RV. You are absolutely correct. These things are not built for full-time living, but if you’re willing to put the effort in, it can work quite well.

As full-timers, our suggestion is to not purchase a budget unit. Find a company that stands behind their units, don't purchase on emotion, look for companies that truly warranty for full timing. That being said, RV are not designed to be lived in, is an accurate statement. Budget to replace the unit at specific intervals. budget to have services done in some cases more often than recommended. Living in and RV is not all rainbows and unicorns, it is lots of work and can be expensive. Being a DIY and staying up on maintenance and repairs is key to keeping anything for an extended time.

Drain your generator oil if storing your RV; it turns hard after several months and costs several thousand to replace.

Manufacturers should see this as a business oppurtunity and start building more full time units. People need to realize that is not what these currently are. There is clearly a market demand for full time RV living. I bought a used pop up but it is not my full time home. I love it and its used for camping. I have no expectations as there were already some small issues that I could see. I fixed them and understand it is not meant for anything more than some vacation and weekend getaway trips. First thing I would do if I ever decided to do full time rv living is call the manufacturers and ask if their units can meet my needs and what I expect to be able to do with that unit. It is not that hard. A lack of communication all the way around seems to be the biggest problem for everyone. I can't imagine a manufacturer won't tell you what you can expect to do with your unit. My 2022 Rockwood is not perfect but it meets our needs and I did my research and I spoke with people to find out what I can expect. I bought it used and I expect it to need regular maintenance and upkeep. I caught up some of the minor maintenance that the previous owner had not kept up on. We were at Niagara Falls camping at Four Mile Creek State park and I had the sink to re-attach as it had loosened from rough roads. I had it fixed in 5 minutes. I keep a good tool set in my camper for doing any work on the road. If I can't do the work with that set then it needs to be in a shop. It took some time but I got it all fixed up and back in good order. I don't think I would buy new as I would rather care for my rv myself and have no one to blame but myself if something is not right. Here is the set of tools I purchased for if I need to do something on the road. www.harborfreight.com/tool-set-with-case-130-piece-64263.html Get one of these as it will serve you well. I hope it is ok that I shared the link for what we have on hand to use and it stores nicely in a small cabinet.

Actually they do build destination type RV’s . They have been building park model homes for decades. Only about 400 square ft . Problems do arise when people use something it was never intended for ! That goes for everything. 😁👍

@@Milesco Yeah , I understand park models are stationary. My point being every RV isn’t actually built to be on the road continuously . They are building a so called RV that is called a destination unit ! I guess move it a few times a year maybe? 👍😁

Full timing since 2011 in a 42’ Allegro Bus. Annual maintenance is $6-10k per year. It’s true the road is a rugged environment, but built to last. Don’t want a stinking house and will be on the road until I can’t safely drive anymore.

Just because an RV is advertised for full time living does not mean it will hold up going up and down the road full time. with that said my wife and I are planning to go full time and have a home base if we need to or want to get off the road. In my research I have come to the conclusion that an RV (For us us toy hauler 5th wheel) that is capable of lasting many years (with proper Maintenance ) will cost between 2-3 hundred thousand dollars. I personally can do all maintenance needed but I don't want to spend all my time dealing with anything that is not designed for full time travel.

We live in a 2003 Winnebago 36 ft motorhome. But, with the price of gas, decided to stop traveling, bought 10 acres and parked it. Well built motorhome. We bought a smaller tow trailer, 20 ft We tow for side trips. Trips to visit kids for a week or two. Works great for that. Just replaced the gas, electric fridge in the motorhome, my labor and $2,500 later, toilet needs to be replaced now, ect. I do all the work and save paying someone at least $150 per hour to do it. Mind you it's always something, and this motorhome sits. It only has 50,000 miles of road beating on it. Full time living in a rig is not for the faint of heart, or someone who can't fix it as it breaks. Not to scare people off from living in one, it's an entirely different way of life, jambed into 350 Sq. Ft. Us, we love it, just not running down the highway watching the rig take the beating. Hope this helps someone.

1) No matter how much you pay for a new RV, you WILL have problems. Million dollar RVs are not exempt. 2) RVs built during the plandemic seem to have the worst build quality, by a long shot. Far worse than prior to 2020. 3) Some people are SQUEEZED by the economy and inflation so badly that they are forced to scramble to buy a used RV to at least have a roof over their heads, just to survive from month to month. Some people are forced to live in quiet desperation. 4) RV warranties are generally horrible, for more than one reason. On top of that, there are dealers and manufacturers out here that will do everything in their power to not cover warranty work, OR, have incompetent techs to try to hunt down difficult problems. 5) If you buy new and have had your RV in storage for up to five years and now plan to go camping, you need to buy brand new tires. The tread may be there, but the AGE of tires will cause the deterioration of tires' sidewalls, which is risky when putting the RV onto the highway. I bought a new vehicle many years ago. It has low miles, but I replaced the tires and the battery at the five-year mark, simply because of age. I also replace all fluids on schedule. Same goes for RVs. 6) I am not a mechanical savant, but I am somewhat handy and willing to learn. RV owners should have some rudimentary skills and tools to fix or replace broken and faulty parts. Which is exactly what I have had to do. 7) As with any type of living situation, it is IDEAL to have a financial cushion to pay for RV emergencies.

8:09 _"What the courts want is an extensive period of time, over 100 days out of service, in order for you to have a really good case."_ *100 days???* That's ridiculous! Is that statutory? Most "regular" (non-RV) lemon laws put the number at 30 days. Is this "100 days out of service" requirement statutory, or is it an artifical hurdle ginned up by a bunch of reactionary anti-consumer judges? And is the consumer entitled to be reimbursed for the loss of use of his new RV while it's in the shop? Mr. Dalton, what say you?

Obviously your guest has little experience to back his claims. They may be true for the cheapest of products. Fulltime also gives. you the opportunity to drive to better weather conditions. Just because you don't think people have brains doesn't mean blanket statements are true. If if if if, and he might have a valid argument. Just a major fail for this video. So we are all poor, stupid, and unable to recognize how we live. I give up...
