Not sure about clarity of the battery issue. I have pixel 8. So was the adaptive battery on and if so for how long since the phone was new? The same for asus, first weaks of usage adaptive battery is learning and it doesn't have long time battery life. I'm not using AB but know how it works so this could be the issue because the difference on battery shouldn't be that big and especially since I'm using the pixel 8 I know it can go way longer (pretty much the same as s23 unless You make a lot of calls than it will be noticeable worse cause all of the pixel's magic making the call quality great by removing the background noise)
@thesamuelnam11 ай бұрын
Yes adaptive is on, I also don't charge my phones to 100 unless I'm doing tests like this to conserve battery health. Zenfone is about 4 months older than Pixel, I assume both are still at similar health. Used Zenfone fulltime for 5 months and Pixel fulltime 3 months. If you sit and use Pixel for 5 hours straight, it'll last. It sucks with standby. This test was done over 3 days and pixel lasted 1.5 days which is solid. In saying that, I'll keep pixel over Zenfone any day. WAY more fun to use.

Z10 is also significantly more expensive than P8 now. Combine that with much shorter software suppoert in the Zenfone 10 compared to P8 and it's really a no brainer. Z10 has barely 1 year software support. ASUS promises 2 OS updates but it launched with Android 13 and A14 came out just a couple months later. Now Z10 is only 1 year old and it's already fast approaching its final OS update. It's just sad that we have to choose between awesome design, great battery life and great performance but poor software/support vs. OK design, and great software and support, but bad battery and mediocre performance. Always seems like you have to pick your poison with compact phones. Like you say, it's just sadness that Pixel still using relatively bad chips, if they just went Snapdragon I think the devices would be way more popular, even if the price tag increased a bit. Hell even a snapdragon 7-series chip would probably do absolutely fine. E.g. a Pixel 5 refresh - about the only phone Google made in the last 4 years which is as compact - if not more compact - than the Zenfone 9/10.

One of the reason about I switch from Android to IOS (besides wanting to try new things) is iddle battery life. No matter what phone I use, when I'm not using (doesn't matter wifi or data) android simply consumes more battery. Either you manually interrupt process or install custom rom. IOS after a couple of weeks it learns when you are working and it maintains good battery. MAYBE it's just me but older android version didn't have this problem.

I had Xperia Z1 compact, Xperia Z5, Pixel 1-3-4a. Xiaomi Mi 9 T. Samsung A54. Then I tried S9 plus and Note 10+ I would say early years of Xperia were great for non-heavy users, you could have those phones for 2 days and they were ok. Of course, if you test them, those phones had average SOT, but it was nice to have some juice when you didn’t use them. Pixel 1 was great on Android 7; I used that phone for work (phone calls) and it held up really great. With Android 10 it simply started depleting battery for no reason. Same thing happened with 3 and 4a with newer updates. Xiaomi 9T had a bigger battery but I saw how that phone consumed it for no reason. A54 is a beast phone for heavy user, videos, music, Bluetooth no problems, nice SOT (manage to pull 8 hours), but somedays the phone randomly consumed battery doing nothing, other days it was great. S9 and Note 10+ have great idle battery consumption if you use battery saving mode. I think is planned obsolescence with battery and newer SO. On IOS my first iPhone was 13 mini, with a smaller battery it lasted me over a day, perfect for some phone calls and checking email. I think it is a great phone for non-heavy user and for working. Still, it wasn’t great with data on or watching KZbin (average SOT was 4 hours). After 16 months and 89% I switched to my current Iphone 15 (non pro). At 100% battery, I have some crazy days at work and I almost didn’t use it, at home just a little bit of Instagram and some KZbin (less than 1 hour, wifi only) and went to sleep. This phone lasts me 2 days with one single charge (second day I had 8%). With heavy use I have 6 hours SOT (can push it to 7). Of course, you have the big boys (plus or pro max - S24 Ultra) with better SOT but it is worth mentioning how a phone can last that much just staying on

Working 12hr shifts where you sometimes have a lot of downtime to sit on the phone, having a big battery is a big deal.

If the Zenfone had longer software support and better cameras, it would be pretty close to being perfect.
@thesamuelnam11 ай бұрын
It would be good if they just did pixel launcher too. The ZenFone near stock OS is so mid as well. Haptics aren't tight, camera meh, software support meh. Soooo close. I'm pumped for ZenFone 11 though.

I know Pixel battery is bad. I own one, and the battery is ONE thing I hate about it. But I didn't know Zenfone's battery was that good.

Zenfone got me over to android because of the battery life. Incredible. I guess you can get more out of the iPhone Max phones. But this is smaller than regular iphone

Had the ZF10 a Telephoto lense or be 200€ cheaper it would have been my phone for sure. But it's a bit of a pricey niche phone, excellent in many ways but pricey.

The zenfone should have slimmer bezzles and at least 5 years of software updates, and it would be great, but no, they discontinued the small form factor

The issue with the pixel phone is that when you move around it always looking to WIFI, It might run longer if you deactivate it. I personally never use WIFI and my pixel old 5H30 screen time. I'm often on the gram and play Brawlstar on a daily basis (Its 11PM am currently at 3H27 of screen time, 65% battery left: screen time 49% KZbin display always on, as I'm broke, with wireless buds 25% Snapchat today and I just realized WIFI is on and I'm connected through my box) I got the pixel 8 since 4 months now.

I got the Xperia 5 iv and got around 8 hour screen on time during whole day use on 60 hz. Xperia 5 v also seems to have even better battery life. Maybe better than the Zenfone 10 IMO .

Can someone please explain how the ZenFone gets the small phone reputation when it's basically the same as any base iPhone?

Rare to find a flagship small device for android. 5.9 inch is smaller regular iphone, but lasts much longer. But to be fair the regular iphone feels and looks much better than the Zenfone

Frankly, I've never really understood how this Zenphone 10 is more compact than a standard iPhone or Galaxy S 🤷🏽♂️
@thesamuelnam11 ай бұрын
You're right, it's mere millimeters smaller than standard iPhone and Galaxy, but battery is MILES ahead. Think that's what the hype is about. In saying that, the Galaxy S and iPhones feel much nicer than this hard plastic ZF10. @@rolins3279

@@thesamuelnam Clearly the battery 🔋 life of the Zenphone is incomparable for a smartphone of this size, and this is really the big mistake of Apple and Samsung, their standard smartphones must have at least 300-400 mAh more. But in general, people who prefer small smartphones don't exceed 4-5 hours of daily use. And in terms of design, features, camera, and software tracking, the Zenphone is too far behind.

3.5mm narrower might make a difference in practice? Not sure. It's also 1.1mm less tall but 1.6mm thicker. With camera lenses the iPhone is thicker by 2mm. The OS might help with that one-hand handling as Android is more friendly for that: - having the universal back gesture means you don't have to reach the top left corner to go back at any moment - the universal back gesture can be done from the right as well, closer to your thumb - notifications can be dragged down from the center of the screen while in iOS you have to swipe down from the top - home screen app icons can be placed near the bottom right while in iOS it starts on the top left (unless you do work around like adding widgets or transparent shortcuts...) All in all, Android is friendlier when it comes to one-hand user experience, and if on top of that you have a bit narrower and less tall phone, it might feel smaller in practice despite being quite similar on paper.

Had the pixel 8 for a week and sold it due to horrible battery life. Averaged under 4 hours of SOT, always had to charge during the day or the phone dies.
