Yes a vectra video project 😉 I love these cars , ive had four of them. I had the dual mass fly wheel and clutch replaced on my 2.0ltr diesel . Cost me £700 , and had the oil seal rings replaced as if you don't air gets trapped and causes it problems changing gears again .

That’s a lot of work dropping subframe out You can get gearbox out by taking the subframe bolts out on nearside and just loosen the driver side ones and remove bolt on bottom of steering column to gain enough space to remove gearbox especially if there’s 2 of you doing it together Also are you replacing the clutch whilst the gearbox is out. You’d be mad not to

Nice. The Vectra C subframe is a right pain although have done a couple by just dropping the passenger side down saves a lot of time. Also mark up the subframe bolts as they are concentric so take it to be good alignment specialist to get tracking sorted. Also worth doing clutch, CSC and definitely rear main seal. Good luck. It's not the gearbox that's gone, it's the flywheel and pressure plate, had the same issue on mine

Hi Savage Garage love your vids and content especially Mk3 Ford Mondeo as have purchased one my self recently the Zetec S model. The knocking noise you are hearing sounds like it could be the DMF ( duel mass flywheel ) so maybe something to look at while the gearbox is off. Anyway hope you get to solve the noise issue soon. Done this job on the mrs’s 1.9 cdti… her gearbox was grand… the dual mass was knackered… i left the rack in the car… It was a pig of a job even with a ramp..🔨🔨

GM gearboxes have problems with bearings. If your gearbox begins to emit extraneous sounds, you should dismantle it immediately and change all bearings, otherwise you will need to replace the whole gearbox. I had the same problem with my 2008 Astra GTC with Z17DTR engine, replaced bearings and have no problems now 😀

What you should have done is, taken the driveshaft out and then listened for any noise. That way you could be more accurate using process of elimination.

Did you check for leaks and check the oil level prior to ripping it apart? I always start with the cheapest option and go from there 😎

Obviously the whining noise just starts when it's under load. Here in Australia our big fords get diff whine after like 380 thousand kilometers (YES you read that right). It's when you go 100 but you drop it back to like 95 and it's barely there, and at 90 it won't happen. And it MAY be because our speed limit is 100 or maybe because of the faster you go the loader it gets.

Good tip for you on any sized job get some label bags for about a pound and just label anything that comes out that way if the job sits for some time less guessing where things came from

It's probably the input shaft bearing which has gone bad... It's only a £10 part but a pain to replace since you have to disassemble the whole gearbox

Great tutorial! How much would you expect to pay at a garage all in for such a job, including new clutch and flywheel - have the same car, and tbh this is the only thing that would write the car off for me (no weird noises just yet) - I have the same car exactly in this video, 138,000 miles, picked it up for £1k last year - been a bargain motor, first VX I have had, underrated solid cars I think.

The gearbox has probably leaked oil out. My mum had a zafira and it did that. I filled it up again and it stopped the whinning noise. I tested when jacked up like you did and it didn't make any noise either.

Thanks for the great video. I have a sound that is a bit what you described in the beginning so I was like Sh't but my noise is nothing like that LOL. I don't know if anyone answers questions here.. I have searched the whole web but just can't find how to check the oil level on an easytronic gearbox. How hard can it be? It sends me straight to the video's about replacing the whole gearbox. I just want to check if there is enough oil in it.. Anyone know where the control hole or pin is located ?

Great content James, I’ve had a few of these vectras and I’d say it’s gearbox bearings, I love the cars but they are shite, oil leak might be oil cooler mine leaked and threw it all over so hard to pinpoint ,and try J&R driveshafts snd transmission components on eBay for driveshafts, I just got two for my Corsa c cdti for under £30 each with Cv joints etc, probably more for vectra but worth a look before buying 2nd hand

You don't need to remove the drive shafts, just pull out the diff and push them out the way

Unbelievable, same thing happened to my Vectra C 1.8 started like Toms gearbox but mine actually failed and oil leaked over the clutch, could just about drive it. When the garage changed it for me they said fifth gear shaft bearing collapsed and it made a noise in every gear. Only makes a noise under load. And the fifth gear shaft is at the top of the gearbox. Common fault and theres a Service Bulletin to replace the gearbox oil for different oil apparently.

@@SuperSonicSpeedGuy thanks, my mondeo mk3 is on 133,000 and even after bleeding the clutch 100% it still doesn't fully disengage even if you push the pedal to the floor. It makes getting OUT of gears hard! I'm thinking the fins on the pressure plate have just bent out of shape over time, so they don't pull the clutch apart enough. It's a gearbox off job, so will need to hold the engine up. 👆

Don't these Vectras have a problem where the flywheel looses true motion, which therefore destroys the clutch and input shaft bearing. I'm sure I've heard of at least two diesel ones this has happened on.

you can clearly see, that its a 5-speed gearbox. 5:43 the m32 is a 6-speed. There was a Version called m30 but its not found on the Vectra Its a F17!

is a M32 Gearbox? Sounds like a failure of the 3 endcase gearbox bearings, it´s a common failure, that´s happend in mi Vectra CDTI with 314.000km

You can get away with just dropping the n/s of the subframe, I had to replace my 52 plate vec c 10 years ago.

Well you should thought of replacing the axles before jumping to conclusion that the gearbox is faulty,what if it was not? and all the sound cause by the axle,as turning it by hand made a noise,so imagine the sound with weight of the car and so on...always think of the simple case scenario not the worst...
