Colosseum - Civilization VI Wonder Spotlight

I don't think I've ever built the Colosseum on time before, but after watching your Amenities video and this one, I'm going to make it something of a priority

After the most recent patch the Colosseum also requires an Arena to be built in its adjacent Entertainment Complex. Also, in earlier versions of the game you could build an Entertainment Complex in one city and then the Colosseum itself in another city without an Entertainment Complex provided it was still placed adjacent to one. You can't do this anymore :(

Surprised there's comments about people not being able to complete this on Deity before being beaten to it by the AI. Granted, I am playing without R+F and maybe that's the difference- maybe in R+F the AI actually starts building EC's earlier. But in the version that I'm playing, the prerequisite of being next to an EC is what makes this wonder the easiest to build, the EC seems to be the district that they prioritize so lowly that I can always get it. In the games where the map dictates that I won't have enough cities within range of the Colosseum to make it worthwhile, I get the message that it's built long, long after I could have built it myself. That said, I would lower your difficulty rating to 1, it's the one that I can get in every game if I want it on deity because of the EC requirement- if any wonder deserves a difficulty rating of 1 it's this one. And for consistency I'd bring it to 4- it is always beneficial and only not worth it in games where you can't have 4 or more cities within its range, which is few because the power of this wonder is so strong that you often found cities in locations to qualify for the wonder bonus.

I have been shut out of the Colosseum in a lot of deity games recently. I usually try to get the Civic political philosophy before games and Recreation and then get drama and poetry for the theater squares. However, I have been considering rushing games and Recreation to make sure we get the Colosseum. One could even go with craftsmanship then State Workforce and then directly to games and Recreation and not even do foreign trade for early Empire until later. This does give up on having an early Trader so not sure I would bypass foreign trade. But what do you think about the idea of going directly for games and Recreation before political philosophy at least?

I think its definitely a bit of a risky move to go for that, as I think that getting a tier 1 government can be pretty valuable. I do think that it has gotten a bit more difficult to get the Colosseum ever since Rise and Fall came out, I would consider it to be a little bit more balanced considering how strong of a wonder it is.

No. Effects of wonders only apply to the civilization that owns the city the wonder was built in. Either original or taken.

Nowadays there’s so many that no matter what you’re going for there’s almost always a few wonders you should go for. Especially if you’re playing for culture or even science, there’s a lot of reason to go for wonders.

You are able to get this done in every single game? Building an entertainment complex in the classical era? What difficulty are you exactly playing on? I feel as though many of your videos are just reading and interpreting the information that is available in the civilipedia. I don't get the feeling that you are giving actual good advice on playing the game on higher difficulties.

Perhaps what I meant was unclear. I meant that in almost every single game, I have a valid location to be able to fit the requirements to start building the Colosseum, as in I'm able to satisfy the placement criteria. I definitely am not able to completely build it before the AI in every game, as I do play on deity and it can be a bit competitive. You are welcome to think as you'd like, but I do indeed actually play Civ VI on deity and provide my own experience in these guides. If I didn't care enough to actually play the game, I definitely would not have spent the last 10 months making guides for it.

i dont really think we need videos on this at all. nor did we really need the gov videos. the views on these videos reflect this. i love your vids, but these just seem unecessary. perhaps focus on civs with the most unique play style: kongo, aztec, china. your videos in my opinion cater to mid level civ players and most of us have a solid grasp on the game and these videos are lost on us.

I've 700 hours on Civ6 but still find this stuff extremely useful
