Temple of Artemis is one of the best early age wonders if you can surround it with pastures and camps. I find it allows for mass early expansion.

I've actually seen the Temple of Artemis in person. The remains are outside Ephesus in Turkey.

The amenity is applied to the city that owns the camp, pasture, or plantation that is within 4 tiles of the temple of Artemis.

I looked forward to building this on a Domination Scotland run. A future total of +9 amenities. Rushed a settler in position. Rushed Monument to the gods pantheon. Made the pasture in right position. Suddenly however I asked myself why I couldn't start building it. Then I read the following; "Must be built adjacent to a Camp." All of them could only create Pastures. I cried.

I'm playing on Immortal difficulty and i'm hesitant to go for this wonder. The twitch streamer Normul8or said he would prefer to get a 2nd city down instead of investing resources to get the ToA, and I agree with him. Though I think it is for sure worth building the ToA when playing as Scotland since they get huge bonuses from their cities being ecstatic. Plus I saw TheGameMechanic win a Scientific game on Deity difficulty with Scotland when he only had 4 cities, so you don't need to have many cities with Scotland. (once their cities are ecstatic)

My new favourite Ancient Wonder. I'm playing on Deity as Victoria right now and built the Temple in my capital city. A total of +8 Amenities between 3 cities! You should not underestimate the benefits of amenities when it comes to making up for the production advantages that the AI has at the higher levels.

Good analysis of the temple of Artemis. Playing only deity i find artemis very usefull for domination if i can place it in 2nd city, to get that citys pop up fast. Again it all depends on the sitaton. Real good work Saxy gamer, for a long time i have wondered when someone would do exactle what you do :)

if you can get off a temple of artemis with 4 or 5 camp/pasture you just win the game on deity. ive built it in my last 2 deity games and i end up with a 12 pop cap in the classical era. cant always build it but if its possible you win. normulator likes building 20 settlers a game. i build 2 to 4 then capture 50 from the ai

I think you underrated the Temple of Artemis in at least one, maybe 2 categories. 1: Consistency. Playing without mods, I get camps in capitol in at least 50% of my games. Also, camp lux are among the worst in the game, so ToA makes such a start at least okay. 2: Domination. Haven't played in a while, but doesn't ToA also give reduced cost for ranged units? If that's still the case then things like x-bow timing push bump ToA up to at least a 3.

I do think that the ToA is easily one of the best early game wonders, given the right spawn. With a good number of camps/pastures/plantations to give you amenities, it is insanely strong. It's bonuses though do not necessarily directly benefit any of the victory types, so that's why its ratings may appear to be a bit low. Also, it does not give a cost reduction to ranged units, I believe that you're thinking of the Civ V version of it.

Huh, you're right, had the CiV and CiVI version muddled together, sorry about that. You are right that ToA doesn't necessarily lend itself towards any of the victory types, but that kinda goes for most of the early game wonders, doesn't it? How about giving an "overall" rating for the wonders, beside the victory specific ones? Because for a new player your verdict seems to indicate that ToA isn't all that great (which is, in regards to win conditions, correct), when it is seen by most players (that I know of at least) as one of, if not THE best early wonder in the game.

I've noticed some of the harder to place wonders to be hilariously hard for the AI to figure out. Many times have I built Artemis, Petra, Colossus or Halicarnassus in Renaissance or later era in just a couple of turns, even in huge maps with Deity. So I'd say many of the picky ones are inconsistently easy to get. Petra baffles me the most, since I almost never fail to get it, and in a recent game I found at least 4 perfect Petra cities, one of which even had the Eye of Sahara, but eventually had to capture one and build the wonder there. Come on, it's not that hard to build.

Need Population to have Specialists. So any Wonder that Provides Population is second only to those that Provide direct Faith.

No, it doesn't check out the religion in depth video for how it works. Basically it outputs based on whether or not the city is a holy city and whether or not it has a holy site. Population does not play a role in pressure.

I'd rather build another settler than try to rush for an early wonder like Artemis. All the bonuses are basically "make your cap 4 pop larger" which is meh. Anything over 10 is more trouble than it is worth. There are plenty of other ways to get amenities - even wonders (coliseum).

I actually think that Artemis is a really great wonder, although it doesn't seem to be reflected in the ratings. The issue is that it doesn't necessarily provide any direct huge boosts to any one victory type, so its ratings look really poor. After some of the comments and discussions I've had on this video, I'm going to be changing the ratings into an Overall Rating and Use Cases system, of which I would probably give Artemis a 4/5.
