Hello, I am currently in Ethiopia and lost my passport and travel itinerary’s as the ticket. I currently have photos of prove of citizenship such as picture of the front cover of the old passport and a picture of my License. Would that work in order to get a temporary passport?

Hi Ben, I lost my US Passport and the already made my appointment at Passport Acceptance Facility. I have a nice colored photocopy of my lost passport. What I am unclear of is if they will accept a photocopy of my lost passport as proof of citizenship or does it have to be the actual copy (which defeats the purpose of it being lost.) I ask because my passport is my only documentation of proof of citizenship. Thank you!

I don't think a photocopy of your passport will work. You will need either need a birth or naturalization certificate. If you don't have either of those then you can request a file search since you have been issued a passport in the past. The cost for a file search however is $150.

Is there a difference between going to a passport center vs a passport agency? It's 5 months before I travel.

A passport center and a passport agency are essentially the same thing. They are operated by the U.S. Department of State and responsible for processing all passports including urgent international travel within 14 days. Passport Acceptance facilities are where you would go to apply in person for a new passport. These would done at a post office or a library and other similar facilities.

If you are replacing your lost passport you will have to complete a DS-11 form and submit it in person. You can pay by cashier's check, personal check or money order.

Yes, the passport will get mailed to you but you will have to apply in person if you need to fill out a DS-11 form.
