I once cared for an elderly gentleman (dead now) who fought in WW2. He thought it was excellent that kids today had so many freedoms an ways to express themselves. It was almost as if we actually have the better future he'd laid down his life for!? He had no problem with "the gays", because they were also the ones in camps they were fighting to liberate. He also said people should mind their bloody business a bit more! 😂 Excellent video as usual! ❤

If he’s 50, he’s Gen X. But us millennials have some shitty dudes as well: Steven Miller, Zuckerberg, Andrew Tate, Ben Shapiro. But we actually did grow up using typewriters 😅, rotary dial phones, no cell phones, no internet until high school (dial up), and PeeWee Herman absurdist humor which does make the rest of us pretty cool 😎. The guys above are outliers.

There's a short where Trixie Mattel talks about coming out to her brother, who said something like this; 'I don't like tomatoes, I don't want to eat tomatoes but I'm not going to tell other people not to eat them.' And that resonates with me so much, like it does not matter what other people's preferences are _at all_ . I went to a wedding last friday and I didn't spend the entire time talking about how I never want to get married or trying to talk the couple out of it. It's their life, not mine.

And 100% a LGBTQIA+ ally. In my opinion kids today have it much harder (I used to work with adolescents in mental health) growing up than I and my generation did. For extra credit: women don't owe us pretty, women don't owe us sex, they don't owe us their *attention* in any way whatsoever. Taking a woman out to dinner or buying her presents does NOT mean we've "bought" her "favours" (sex). Telling her to "Smile more" is NOT a compliment, nor is saying "Nice tits". Women are NOT the "weaker" sex, & the sooner guys get that through our thick heads, the better. I know some ladies that could kick most guy's butts in a heartbeat without breaking a sweat. That whole "weaker" sex garbage is mostly cultural, & trained in from birth & it needs to die. It's called something like "learned helplessness". Raise girls to be physical from an early age, & they'll be as strong as most average, smaller guys. Not every friendly look, word, or touch means she's attracted to us. Women can be friends on an equal footing. Stop assuming every woman is a potential "conquest". Women aren't meat, or prizes. They're *people,* & the sooner us guys realize that, the more women will trust us. Here's to better relations between the sexes!

I worked in a fancy nursing home as a chef. I was the only person in charge working at night cooking for 140+ people when the server notified me of a resident having a heart attack. Of course I stopped cooking and ran out to help the man. He literally died in my arms as I have NO medical knowledge to do much helping. One of the other residents had the nerve to ask me if he would still get his dinner as I held his neighbor dead and I was sobbing. Ill NEVER forget it. Older folks are RUTHLESS.

I also work a nursing home. Well. "health and rehab facility for the elderly". But that's just fancy talk for "we'll keep you sick if we can". Imagine you lived a full life, were seen as a respectable adult, ran around, made friends, had a family, got into trouble and adventures and now you have to live in this home. You've lost everything, your independency, your house/flat, you've watched most, if not all of your friends dying, some family members too, lately also people like your roommates, you're seen and treated as not a full adult anymore and you know perfectly well that tomorrow night it could be you that is lying there dead. You know you won't leave this situation any other way. I can understand that they cared more about their potentially last dinner than yet another one that has left.

I'm from the 90s and I grew up terrified of climate change, I remember seeing an article working out the numbers and whole cities were gonna be submerged underwater in my lifetime. The hole in the ozone layer would cause a disaster and I don't remember what else. There were nights I couldn't fall asleep just thinking that climate change may literally kill me. Then we stop hearing about this stuff, suddenly all the talk about the ozone layer turned into talk about recycling, using water responsible, trash at the beach, turtles harmed by plast straws and bags. And I was like what happened? A good chunk of New York was supposed to be under water by now. What happened was that countries around the world made a pact to reduce carbon emissions and the ozone layer is healing quite well. Climate change is not a hoax. We do have a direct impact on it. If we take it seriously and act on it we can solve it. But it is not down to us folk doing a bit at home. Even if most people did the change would be negligible. We need the governments of the big nations and the big millionaire companies to put in the effort. Is on their hands not ours.

If it makes you feel better, we stopped hearing about the hole in the ozone layer because we fixed it
@DrachenGothik666
@DrachenGothik666 Жыл бұрын
The hole in the ozone was caused by CFC's, gases used as propellants in things like hairspray & other spray can products. Nations came together & banned them all over the world, & the ozone hole slowly started to seal up. Now it's a lot smaller than it was. There technically is always a smallish hole at the South Pole, but the CFC's made it larger than was safe. Now, if only the nations of the world could come together to act on Climate Change, despite the misinformation being put out by the deniers & the Fossil Fuel companies so they can do the same thing.

@@grantmegan91 It's absolutely not fixed, but it got WAY(!) better. And long before the lockdowns too. During the lockdowns the holes just healed even a bit faster, but seriously, in comparison to the 90s, they're pretty much just scars left, not wounds. We have so many climate and general environmental issues, but the ozone layer, for now, isn't a big reason for concern.

My grandparents, especially so my grandfather, accepted me being trans instantly, like literally from the moment I said that I went by she/her and gave them my name, he never once misgendered or deadnamed me. Meanwhile my dad lost his mind, and said that "older people can't understand these things" and was utterly furious that I told my grandparents at all (his parents), saying how much it would hurt them and tear the family apart. Meanwhile I had a lovely chat with my grandparents this past weekend and my dad hasnt spoken a word to me in over a year. Its so sad how some people try to use "the older generation" as a cover for their own personal bigotry and closed-mindedness.

I’m 62. We’ve always known that racism and bigotry is wrong, it’s just that the majority didn’t care because they are selfish. My husband calls me a civil rights activist but I’ve never felt like I’ve done enough. During times that were personally tough, I was able to put “activism” onto a little shelf until I had the mental/physical strength to take it down again. Something that the people I’ve fought for have never been able to do. I’m proud that younger generations are free to make more decisions on their own lives. I’m thrilled that people can identify as cis or queer or anything else they feel that they are. I’m disgusted by the parts of society that can still turn their backs and announce that “I’m fine so everyone else must be fine”.

Cursive writting is my nemesis since I'm a kid because my first name starts with a T and cursive capital "T"s are absurdly illogical, but I had to do it this way and no other, and it upsetted my kid's brain each time. And ! every country has their cursive rules ! I invite you to type "T capital cursive" in google, looks like a J, the french one "T majuscule cursive" looks like a C. Today, I use my own version of a T, my brain still refuses to use the common rule. Cursive, pretty to look at (if only you're the calligraphy person type and can make it look artsy), but makes reading a pain in the butt for everyone.

It's horrible what happened. That's out of the question! But in all honesty, I don't get the "I'm no longer religious, because I witnessed first hand what horrible things happen to some people". Like, first of all, innocent children are dying terrible deaths all the time. Why does it have to be personal to be clear? Then, what kind of (sorry) either almost extreme, or kindergarden-esque kinda believe did it have to be to think any sort of god, even a supposedly loving one, would micromanage every person that will ever have lived? There's the whole free will and almost god like power etc (depending on the exact religion) stuff, the "the world is your garden" etc. But that includes all sorts of things, good and bad. Can you imagine how the world would look and how we would be, if a/some god/s were constantly fixing everything for us? Heal the ill (with good personality), punish the evil, prevent all wars etc. What would we be? Doesn't matter since that's obviously not the case. What I'm trying to say is that it's perfectly fine to lose your religion for many reasons, it's perfectly fine to just be mad at whatever god/s, because something bad happened, but I do find it weird to lose a full religion because of personal grief. Doesn't mean you can't!

@@lethfuili never had much opinions on religion as a kid (i was forced into catholic private school). forced to go to church as a class every week, and mom had us go to church. my mom also died of cancer a week before my 13th birthday. directly. i moreso was mad and all cus my mom was super religious and she did cause her own cancer (at least partly from smoking). but still, the idea of a all powerful diety letting someone die from something painful? if they have to die make it peaceful, with the all powerful thing or whatever.
@lethfuil

@@devilsdeckofcards I mean, I get what you're saying. But I just can't agree. One could approach this issue in two ways: 1. The God/Gods are Gods, but don't watch billions of people all the time. Make a universe, kick start (and maybe guide) an evolution, potentially gift some of the creation with a tiny bit of yourself. But that doesn't mean you have to make everything painless. 2. Consequences. Of your actions, of others actions and of just living in itself. Without pain there is no joy. Without knowing that life and death can be hard, there's no awareness of life and death. So, I think the God some people are getting really angry with (again, I DO understand it as part of grieving) is a rather silly, childish, version of a God. It's what they'd tell you in religious school classes to make you bond with them and maybe to give you comfort. But it's still just a very easy, human, child like concept of something likely highly complex (if existing).

Yeah, I had a baby boomer I know who genuinely thought that millennial meant they were born around the millennium. She was surprised when I referred to myself as one (I just turned 37), and I explained that the term comes from our formative teen years being around that time. To be fair, she accepted my explanation, and not everyone looks up these terms in Wikipedia like I do.

Gen X here. I suspect the disconnect comes from the usage of millennial not being so common until after 1999/2000. Idk if it was a more US based usage to start with, and then the internet made it spread more, or what. I just know that I didn't really become aware of it until early 00's when I went to uni (as a mature student of 26 lol) with a bunch of millenials lol. But I think because of that, a lot of older folk somehow wrongly got it in their heads that it was referring to those born "around the millennium". And then thanks to the bs in the media, it kind of became synonymous with "young people". I also think there is a whole thing tied up in aging and the passage of time... like, when people say 30 years ago and (general) you think 60s when really it's 90s! We're kind of in denial about getting older ourselves and that somewhat shows itself in not realising or acknowledging that people don't stay kids for ever. Hell, even older gen z are in their mid to late 20s now. My niece is just on the cusp between the two and she is 28. I guess it just makes us all feel old to think of it, it reminds us we aren't young ourselves anymore, so we get all _boomerish_ about it. Hell, it was mentioned in the video about millennial being parents now...I know of millennials who are GRANDPARENTS (they had their kid at 20, and that kid just had a kid at 21). I'm almost 50, that shit is terrifying to me when I still _feel_ 25 lol.

When he says "I'll pray for you, I'm praying for you, etc." He actually means it and is basically his way of saying "I'm thinking about you and your family and I wish you all the best and legitimately care and hope that you're able to heal as best as you can". The $2500 was because she started a master's degree and didn't finish it. So the 4 year bachelor degree itself was free.

That’s the equality we want as a community, in one way it means I can’t fully relate to the struggles of coming out. But as someone who still gets the fa**** slur slung my way I would not change my experience just to feel what it’s like. I absolutely LOATHE those things where the older generation laughs at a younger generation for supposedly not being able to use a dated piece of technology -- because the older generation didn't teach them how to do it. It's not a failure of the youth to learn, it's a failure of the olds to teach. I can't use TikTok either, because I don't need to as part of my daily life, but at least I know how to email a company without being rude and how to interpret the content I'm consuming. You know what I can't do? Use a fax machine. Why? Because it's OBSOLETE. That doesn't make me stupid. Sorry, rant over.

My Millennial brother told me that the Oregon fires a few years ago - when there were a few aronists operating - were all started by antifa and that the letter signed by every police and sherif dept saying exactly the opposite was a false flag forced by “them” on the police depts. When I tried to correct him he called me a sheeple and said I’d be the first led to the slaughter. When I objected to my Baby Boomer father, who was listening to the conversation, he told me that we had to consider both sides. Like, yes the Rashomon effect is true, and I understand some conspiracies have been true, but FFS. There’s no “both sides” to everything. You are not wrong when you bring up the whole issue around kids being hit and it teaches them that’s how to solve their problems. I literally had to be pulled out of school when I was 12, because I kept getting into physical fights with bullies, because the teachers wouldn’t protect me, and both my parents taught me, quite vividly, that violence solves problem. And my mom and my teachers were worried that if I kept getting into fights as I got older that I’d end up getting arrested. Cut to me being an adult, and I still to this day have to resist the impulse to hit people when I feel threatened, which is all the time bc I have PTSD thanks to my parents. A couple times I actually have punched coworkers because they deliberately startled me bc they thought my scream of terror and panic was funny. Fortunately they knew they were in the wrong so it wasn’t reported, but ffs. Don’t hit kids. It doesn’t teach them anything good. And before anyone says anything, yes, I am well aware it’s my responsibility to deal with my issues, and for the most part I have. The last time someone tried to deliberately frighten me, I used words instead of violence, despite the fact that the guy had been harassing me All Day, and I was already extremely stressed because I had found out my mother was in the hospital. That was around three-ish years ago. Haven’t had any incidents since.

I only just recently learned how to debate in a way that doesn't make me want to hit something. I'm almost 30! These are things I should have learned earlier! Violence should never be the answer! But it always feels like my first knee jerk reaction and I've tried so hard to unlearn it.
