One of the things I did to get started saving money was to put away $3 a week. It doesn't sound like much, but I figured I wouldn't miss that. Every few weeks I add a dollar or two per week as long as I really didn't notice the difference. I'm much higher now, but it was a place to start.

The sunburst item may be a C. Jere piece. Most are marked on the flange on back or along a back peripheral rim. Tiny, so look closely. Some are repro but still sell well due to the aesthetic. Older C Jere may also be unmarked.

The fees for buyers are very inconsistent. you can check 3 or 4 different times or from 2 different accounts in the same house, and they will be different costs for the buyer. Also with the return for any reason has caused a rash of people scamming it. By claiming the items are broken etc and getting an instant approval to send it back. Then Mercari is not giving the seller a chance to refute it once it gets back to the seller.

They gave me an opportunity to refute my return once it arrived back to me. I shared pictures showing they returned a different item to me and Mercari still gave me my money and I had a similar item to resell again. So it could be problematic, but it’s going to be a case by case situation just like any selling platform. Difference is, you often have to pay for the returns on eBay where as you don’t on Mercari. Also the scammers are losing money with each return as they don’t get their transaction fee back on the purchase. Only a 3% loss, but that adds up if scammers continue to do it. So it acts as a minor safeguard against some scams. Still a wait and see situation.

Got my HillBilly sticker in the mail the other day. As far as Mercari....I wondered if them shifting the fees to the buyers was an attempt to get more sellers on their platform? The more sellers and items listed on the platform the more sales and money they eventually make. Ive sold casually on Ebay for a year and it peaked my interest. I listed 3 items on Mercari (a gps and 2 hats) as a small test 2 weeks ago. 2 of the 3 items have sold. I will be listing 10 random items there this weekend as another test.

I really enjoyed this video. I gave up dealing with FedEx a good while ago. One, the place that I took the packages no one knew how to scan them so it would take forever. I've not been a fan of FedEx for years. Had drivers drive by my house, not even stop, and I get a notification no one available for signature. They've delivered things to the least accessable and never used door. They refuse to ship to a smaller shop in a center with a closed business claiming the small business was out of business. Extremely frustrating. They are good for shipping medical samples overnight. I'm pretty sure that's it.

My eBay sales have increased to about $175 a day. My Mercari have tanked from the day of the change to 1 sale since that change. I don’t even have many likes on items. I have mostly vtg toys, comics and cards (graded and raw). Some cards are hot in other platforms. I’m giving it 2 more months.

My biggest issue with the fee to withdraw is that it isn’t instant. If you look on their social media, people are still outraged. Also, unlike a bank… money is not insured. Mercari could go under tomorrow and your money is at risk of being gone. So I do suggest withdrawing daily.

My wife and I sell on mercari and ebay and last week we had a customer send an offer on an item on mercari, we counter offer a time or 2, and before they accepted the offer on mercari they sent an offer on ebay for the same item, which we declined, they than message us in mercari again asking if I declined the offer, they said that they felt it would be better for both of us for them to make the purchase on ebay because there's not as many fees. They did end up buying it on mercari.

I had Fedex completely destroy a copier I sold last month. I spent 4 hours building a crate for it and had had huge foam corners sandwiched around it. It looked like they dropped it off a two story building. Luckily the buyer was able to get the part out of it to fix theirs, but I am still fighting Fedex on the claim. The other day I got a notification from ebay they "adjusted" my shipping and charged me another $50. I disputed it with ebay and told them I am currently fighting Fedex for destroying it.

I totally agree with your no debt lifestyle. We do the same thing. We live comfortably and if you saw our income, you would be shocked at how low it is. It is very possible to live comfortably without a 6 figure income.... or even a high 5 figure income. Stay out of debt. If you can't pay cash, don't buy it period. Save what you can and put it in an interest bearing account or invest it. Money sitting in a standard savings account is losing money every day because of inflation. There are some things I disagree with Dave Ramsey on but for the most part, if you follow his rules you will be debt free and will be saving money even if you don't make a lot.

I’m wondering if anyone knows more about the pilot for eBay doing a more fulfillment style like stitch fix or Amazon. I’ve heard a couple resellers talk about it. Wondering thoughts on it. I have my own thoughts and I am not worried about it because I think it’ll only work well for casual sellers because profits will be pretty small for the work/wait. Hi there. I use Mecari and I do not see more income. Here is why. Buyers are asking more discounts on items most likely because of fee charges to them. It's been a lot lately. So I'm not making the extra money without fees because buyers are constantly asking for more off the prices. So it's pretty much the same. Even when I list items I now keep in mind the extra charges to buyers and I want my items to move so I try to list few dollars lower.

I like the changes at Mercari. I like to buy large lots, and there are always some lower value items that are not worth the time to list them on ebay (mainly partly because of the commission ebay takes on the shipping). I'm trying them on Mercari, and I think it will work out. Also Mercari has a "import from ebay" button now which is very handy.

My Mercari sales have tanked since the change. I am a full time reseller and think it’s a bad business move. Sellers should pay the fees. As soon as they made the change, they’re encouraging all resellers on the platform to lower their prices by 10% to attract more buyers. So how does that benefit the seller? It puts us in the same position we were in. And I’ve seen some of the charges they charge my customers when they buy from me and it’s absurd. I certainly wouldn’t pay it. I would just go to a different platform and buy the item. Generally Mercari does not carry such unique items that you can’t buy them somewhere else. I know paying fees is annoying for sellers, but that’s how you get business. I’ve been a full-time reseller for years and do quite well, I’ve also worked in the corporate industry and just feel like this is a bad business decision. Sellers need to see the picture.

15:12 look at Amazon and what they do to new sellers they hold your funds for 2 weeks sometimes even more thank god I'm grandfathered in since i have been selling on there the same amount of time i have been on eBay 25 years full time so i get my funds deposited weekly from amazon (if wanted to i can withdraw it anytime i want but i do weekly) but yes new sellers and even some that have been there for 5 or 10 years have to wait 2 weeks while amazon makes money on there money! they use all excuse as to why they do it but THEY know why they do it its because they Can Make Millions on the interest while it sits there for 2 weeks if not longer in a bank account

Hi Kevin, I got an email from eBay yesterday stating that they would be “updating default shipping rates shown on your listings .“ Starting May 15, calculated shipping will default to show the buyer the discounted rate. The last line really got me wondering. It said “This change will only apply to sellers receiving this email. “ I trust your take on these things because it seems you really try to analyze all sides. My old job used to hold money if the payday fell on a weekend or holiday. I threatened to sue if they didn't pay the dividends on the what they made off people's held salaries. Suddenly we got paid on time and a large bonus showed up. Turns out it was a slush fund for the C class to go to Mexico or give bonuses to themselves. Mercari and eBay should tread lightly and not get too greedy with all this.

Since I sell only comics Mecari's a no-go for me. It's just not as good as eBay for me...if anything, it seems sales are way slower than eBay's (which is 1-2 a week).

Competition to better attract SELLERS. This is exactly what eBay needed. One "trick" Walmart and other use is they pay their suppliers slowly (90 days), while they sell those items today and get the money today. So they are making a lot of money on the money they hold until they eventually pay their suppliers. Suppliers know they need Walmart so they put up with it.

Do you have any rules of thumb when it comes to getting an offer price for an item? Like accepting X% of price or if it's been on sale for Y period of time you'll take a low bid offer.

not really. The things you mentioned are all factors. As well as the size of the item. Maybe even what you paid for it but to me that isn't an important factor.

I've never sold on Mercari. Re fee shift: The customer cares about the total cost. If the buyer pays the fees it takes a chunk out of what they'll pay for an item. It may cost the seller more or may be a push. I I do use one of those coupon/rebate sites and let the money accumulate in Paypal. Then I buy USPS Christmas gift postage, medical stuff and underwear on line. Is Paypal making money on the float? Darned right they are, even if they don't admit it.

I think I have to disagree with you partially - there are a lot of buyers that, because of the way Mercari is set up, don't really even know what their total cost will be. I sell some things free shipping and I know a lot of buyers don't notice or don't care about the shipping one way or the other; so I suspect many wouldn't even notice the extra fee.

I don't live in what I would call a small town and a Fedex store is not even in our county. They don't pick up item out of the drop off box like they should. I only us them when I am forced to.

Absolutely on the IRA. Start when you are young. When you retire you will have quite a lot. I started in my 30s and have a fair amount in mine. The older you get and the more money you make put more in. It will really grow then. Watch some of the more volatile funds when you are younger. They can pay quite a lot. The older you get you won't want your money in the funds that might swing a lot, because you have a lot more to lose.

People pay ATM Fees, and pay on average $3-$5 each time. So paying $2 to withdraw your money, isnt that big a deal.

100% if $2 is a big deal to transfer your money to our account you should not be reselling you have a much bigger problem! You just let that amount grow till its worth paying $2 to send to your account if it takes a week worth of sales great if it takes 2 weeks or 3 weeks or a month or 2 months then great too but if your just complain about $2 to transfer ANY amount of money then again you should not be reselling you have bigger problems/issues

for instance if you can sell 250 items a day and make $20 Profit on them or sell 1000 Per day and Make $10 per day profit what would rather do? the lower the price especially if your lower then market the quicker it will sell and if you can do this in volume you will always come out better then selling Less but for more but you have to keep your buy cost down big time like maybe 10-20% what your going to list it for

27:05 actually its not .10 Kevin it was a .10 increase now its .40 and for those that cant do math its a 30% increase in that per transaction fee! it was .30 they upped it .10 so 10% of .30 is .03 x that by 3 that's .09 or 30% CRAZY on eBay's part slap in the face to sellers! so yeah if you make 600 single sales in one month (meaning 600 individual transactions) your paying eBay $240 Per month on that .40 per transaction fee (600 transactions per month x .40) $2880 per year $28,880 over 10 years CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY

How much do you suppose it would cost you to have a brick and mortar store? I don't begrudge ebay making money - how else can they stay in business? I have had a physical store, and I am very glad to be selling on ebay now. The expenses are much less.

If you knew how much less it was to sell online then have a B+M why did you choose to pay more expenses for a B=M makes no sense NOTHING has changed over 30 years eBay and amazon have been around Online selling has always been LESS expensive then B+M period. Sorry but there is OTHER ways to Make MONEY as a COMPANY LIKE ebay then Raising FEES on Sellers escpaolly small business sellers NOW companies Like Funko and All the others they have WOOED to there platforms THOSE are the companies they should be RASING Fees 30% in one shot! sorry no matter what you say (or how you feel) there is NO EXCUSE in the world for eBay to be raising a FEE 30% PERIOD! Did everyone forget that no matter what platform they purchase on they are “paying” the sellers fee….because that fee was always built into the price of the item! Just like when you go to a grocery store, the stores “cost of doing business” is built into the price of the items. Now on Mercari you are just able to see the breakdown of the fees. That’s the only difference. More transparency.

Hi Holly, as a disabled person, to make any profit, very infrequently, I would compare market value (video games clothes, college books, collectors items) and list 40% or more lower. For example only - $10item was listed at $6 or lower. I didn't include seller fees in my price in the first place. Now I need to mark it for what, $1-$2 to get it to sell? What point is that if they can now (and do now. All my listings were specified no return unless damaged) return it or worse switch out the items and send me back something else. Of course i had big ticket items that were also well below market value. Even ones with free shipping so I COULD COVER insurance if over $200. Now what? Now they can claim a return (who pays if I did free? Exactly..Me.) And what if they broke the item or took a part out? (Which is also happening, like a harddrive, switch, wire). Now I'm out shipping, and the items. If I use their shipping and it's damaged but it's over $200? I'm screwed. How in the world is this worth my time? Im a 5 star seller with only 1 return because it broke in transit, but I used their shipping. The lack of common sense with this issue is beyond my comprehension.
