A California sheriff’s deputy and his wife staged a video in which he “pulled her over” for driving in the carpool lane by herself. I found out I was pregnant 2 days before mother's day. We gave our mothers coffee mugs that said "celebrate grandma" on them. His mother, who didn't have any grandkids yet, got it right away. In early 1942 my grandfather, who was a 26 year old mechanic in a coal mine in southern Illinois joined the Marine Corps. He never saw any combat during the war but he came close. He was stationed at New Caledonia and because he was a bit older than most of his fellow recruits he advanced very quickly. Some time around October of 1943 he was rewarded with a special mission. He was sent to San Diego to hand deliver classified documents to headquarters. Once the delivery was made he was granted 24 hours leave before he had to return to New Caledonia. My dad showed up 9 months later. They had been trying for 7 years. After the war they wanted my dad to have a sibling, but it wasn't until another 7 years went by, and Grandpa had been recalled for Korea that my aunt was born. They joked that it took an act of Congress to get my grandmother pregnant.
