I carry a full size pdp, appendix. When I decided to carry a pistol, especially appendix, I knew I would have to lose some weight. I’m not obese, but I had a bit of a belly. I ended up losing a bunch of weight, and I don’t have any issues carrying a full size gun, with a mag carrier, without issue. If we’re honest with ourselves, most of us need to lose some weight anyhow.

I don't go out of my way to conceal my firearm. I carry at the 4 o'clock position with a level 2 retention owb holster, with just an open button shirt to cover it. I have only one incident of someone noticing and caring. That was when I was pulling a 25 lbs bag of sugar off a bottom shelf. It seems that the vast majority either never notice or just don't care.

Very good information and I agree with most of it. But after carrying for 34-years and shooting USPSA for about 30-years, I wholeheartedly disagree with everyone who recommends slapping a dot on everything. That's a lazy though also a very effective way to skip a learning process, which is why at the top end, such as USPSA Open-Class, dots rule. However, shooting irons is a survival skill and an important one. I'm now 64 and my vision isn't what it once was. All that did is bring my range in a bit. I shoot as accurately with irons or a dot, just not quite as quickly with irons at distance. If someone else can't do the same, it's not the fault of the sights. Overall, an excellent video. You made me rethink a bit about a couple items, and I appreciate that!

Regarding the notion of losing weight...I recently completed some upper level tactical classes at my local shooting range..I am quite athletic and still play competitive sports The instructor had us sprinting short distances, agility drills, up./down from various positions. We were out of breath at times [ and mistakes were made from many when fatigued].It became abundantly clear that one of the best weapons we can bring to IDC is being in good physical condition because when things go bad..we will have to move fast ..that speed, that rapidity of movement, thaat stamina, most likely will be a determining factor if we survive or not. All the best sight alignment , draw, , holster position, etc wont matter at all if we are too out of breadth/out of shape running to cover. Losing some weight, getting back into and staying in shape is one of the most useful yet overlooked aspects of EDC. Think aerobic training, cardio training , add some weight training...as a practioneer of Rehabilitative Medicine.."Dr, heal thyself"

@paull3278 Ай бұрын
When you train at the range, you should always build up to stress shoots, IMHO. Put the gun down, take a few steps back, and do as many pushups as you need to to get your heart going and arms trembling. Then return to your gun and demonstrate that you can still be accurate. It ain't a perfect adrenaline simulator, but its better than nothing!

Jeff's videos are one of the reasons I just bought my first Tenicor holster (Velo 5 for P365 Fuse). Of course, my last EDC pistol was a Glock 34. 🤭 I'm still in the adjustment stage (the problem with a holster as adjustable as the Velo 5 is that it may take some trial error to get it just right), but I like it, both for comfort and concealability. BTW, although I am larger than I'd like around the gut, I'm not concentrating on losing weight, but building muscle. At 71, I need all the muscle I can get and I want to get rid of as much visceral fat as possible. Right now, I'm focused on getting below 20 percent body fat.

Agreed, military is an easy category that I happen to fit into. Carrying a gun on base concealed is a massive no-no. (Why? Hell, if I know, I get not everyone is trained the same in the military, but theoretically, if you are concealed carrying you DID get the training. They are just disarming us for no reason IMO)

When I began WEARING a sidearm nearly 50 years ago, what we did at THAT time was to REMOVE various and sundry parts from the profile of the gun that could contribute TO “printing.” We removed things such as the hammer spur, sights, the edge of the frame at the mouth of the magazine well, the beaver tail of the grip, the edge of the square butt of a revolver, and various other items so that the result resembled what Clark Custom now call their “Melt Package.” I find it somewhat comical that the vernacular appears to be attaching items such as optics, lasers, and flashlights. Attaching ANYTHING to a sidearm intended to be WORN under concealment just increases the effort to hide it.

Stance, comfortable sizes of clothes, belt type and strength, holster, and ride height all play into how to get comfy and concealed with your gun. Some you may not be able to opt for, like deeper carry, so you opt for higher carry, but better clothing. Been carrying full sized for a few years now with a red dot and light. Even have an ESD magwell and radian afterburner now. It prints some, but not in the way you would think. Love appendix and been using it for 10 years. Faster draws, better control over my gun in a struggle. Love it.

I wear dark clothes, dark holsters, black guns. 98% of the people i come across don't even notice when i open carry if it's in a holster that rides snug to the body. I think the whole "deep concealment" efforts are mostly a waste of time, money, and at the cost of comfort. The only people that are going to notice are the people that are already looking for it. Which in my opinion isn't a statistic worth building my life around. Unless you are printing so bad that you can almost make out the brand of gun you're carrying...................nobody's going to notice.

@@hestongraves3274 Not at all. My personal situation was pulling it in a situation where I was reacting to an immediate threat, in that case it was a charging pitbull as I was getting out of my truck at night that I didn't know was there until growl, bark, and run. Cleared the shirt, grabbed gun, and hit the switch for the light as I got the gun up and the 500 lumens from the TLR7 was enough to disorient the dog enough to give me the moment's digression on whether to finish the trigger press or not. In that case it was decided not to, though I do remember clearly coming off the trigger. If I hadn't had the weapon light I can pretty much 98% promise that I'd have shot the damn dog, partly because it was at a full charge before the light hit it, and two, the dog had a history of going after other people in the neighborhood, and I may have almost shot it earlier in the year when it was making a run at another neighbor. Since, after finding out the mutt was less than 3 pounds of trigger pressure from being shot the owner has taken measures to make sure it stays on the leash. Now, I don't consider the WML a replacement for a handheld, I still carry a handheld religiously and feel that having a handheld is pretty much a requirement. My personal one is an old EDC 1LT or whatever Surefire calls the damn thing. But, in that particular situation, there was no time for me to both clear my shirt and draw and grab the light. That said, situational thing, if I was going to be carrying concealed only during the day, I might be less concerned about having a WML than otherwise, though, personal experience outside that, even on bright days, if I have to clear a house a good WML is still needed often times. And for that the TLR7 ain't the ticket, it just doesn't have enough candela for my taste. Great small light for a concealed carry gun without adding length, shitty duty light. So yeah, a long way of saying it sort of depends. I haven't honestly run the Velo yet, my first tenicor was the Sagax lux and found it personally to be more comfortable than the previous AIWB holsters I have run for my 19 without a light. Sample size of one and everyone is different as well.

I’m a small guy, but carry a Glock 19 or a Glock 42 appendix for my opposite ends of the spectrum. My 19 gets carried in a Certum 3 with only one DCC clip, a mastermind tactics pillow, and an added on wing mod for extra contortion. My 42 holster is an EveryDay Kydex with a similar set up, but the clip I have is mounted to the wing mod screws as well. Both of my guns have HandleIt Edge series grips on them which is the perfect middle of the road for grippy when shooting, but not sharp or abrasive when carrying so it doesn’t catch clothes or hurt my skin. It took me a long time to work out my perfect carry systems, but I’m there now. Lol.

I really wish more holster manufacturers would allow for about 1/2" more adjustment for deeper conceal for times when that works best. I also wish more gun manufacturers and aftermarket grip module manufacturers would make models both with and without dovetails. I routinely bob mine off if they come with them or round off the ones that don't more than they are molded if able. This has made a significant difference in comfort and printing on a few of my carries.

I ONLY carried AIWB with full sized guns during that time and while off duty. What you think is “printing,” really isn’t. Nobody is looking at you like that, so don’t flatter yourself. Now retired, I carry either a Glock 23, 32, 27 or 43X. I don’t care if there’s a little print. Again, nobody is paying attention to me. I’m not worried. Biggest issue for mainly new people carrying, don't fiddle with it. Get a proper sized firearm, get a comfortable holster and belt for the task. If its not comfortable you will not wear it. As your carry more and collect more firearms and types of holsters things will open up for what is best to wear and conceal for weather/job/daily activities. People who carry may notice, LEO's may notice but 99% of the population won't and if they do they don't care. I have worked with people for years, daily interactions and never knew I carried until a conversation comes up based around the topic.

I recently added a GG magwell which is (IMO) much lower profile than most and seems to be geared toward CC. Flush fit 15 round mag in the gun and an OEM +2 extension on my spare carried at 8:30. Jeff is 100% spot on with what he tells us. I really don't *need* another IWB holster but I'm probably going to get a Tenicor Certum Lux2 sometime in the not too distant future.

The only people who will notice printing are the ones who are also in the 2A community, active or former military, or LE. Stay safe out there friends. Great video for those just starting to get into concealed carry. Most important detail left out is to train hard and train often! I had guys in my CCW class that never fired their gun prior to the class…smh.

My carry pistol is a Glock G 48 with a Romeo Zero and Shield S15 round flush mags loaded with Liberty Civil Defense ammo, I find that the G48 have the same dimensions as my G19, but it’s thinner and with the S15 mags, gives me the same ammo capacity

I was a police officer for 36 years. I have been carrying a handgun everyday since 1973. Your video is excellent and covers all the points. Most importantly, carrying a gun IS a choice that requires planning in the gun(s) you carry, the holsters you choose and the clothing you wear. Carrying a gun is like wearing a seat belt...you do it ALL the time, every day, everywhere. You will not be able to 'always be armed' with only one firearm or one holster. If the gun you have is too (big, heavy, hard to conceal) you won't ALWAYS carry it and you will leave it at home, or leave it in the car. About the 'grippy' grips...exactly! Not only do they print more, but they can grab your cover garment when exiting a vehicle, bending or reaching and leave your gun exposed, particularly if you are wearing a light shirt as a cover garment.

My every day carry is a Glock 42 with Trijicon HD XR Night Sights and a 9 round ETS magazine fitted with an XGRIP for a full three-finger grip. I load the magazine with 8 rounds maximum, plus one in the chamber, to ensure 100% reliability. Ammo of choice is Underwood Extreme Penetrator 380+P. This combination has very little recoil, is very controllable and EXTREMELY accurate! I carry it 24/7 in a DeSantis Nemesis Pocket Holster and honestly it's so light and compact that I forget it's there. The best self-defense pistol is the one you never leave home without!

I’ve carried a firearm for almost 40 years. I spent a small fortune at the beginning to find the right gun and most importantly the right holster. I still have two boxes in my attic full of holsters including the most popular holster at the time, the original Galco “Miami Classic” made popular in the Miami Vice TV series. One of the most uncomfortable holsters ever. At the time when most people were moving from revolvers to semi-autos, seems everyone I knew tried this holster.

At first I was using the glock 19 gen 5 with a milled slide and SRO at least sometimes, but my Glock 48 with a shield arms magazine and a milled slide with an RMRcc is far more comfortable due to the reduced thickness and has a slightly longer barrel. My similar grip chopped 43x with the 10-round shield arms magazines is just better than anything you can do with a Glock 43 (shorter grip, railed front, only slightly thicker) and has the best concealment out of any of my guns.

I dress in just a normal t shirt and shorts year round so almost everything prints , so I just go with a single stack 9 like the ruger lc9 that is as small as you can get in a 9mm simi auto . If it’s bulky and uncomfortable you’re not going to carry it and a glock 19 sized gun is a lot of gun to stuff in your waist band

Is there not some consideration, in regards to magwells, for the shape of the magazine basepad? For example, a glock magazine sticks out 3/8" and is literally a rectangle, so when a garment droops over the grips, the corner of the baseplate is now apparent. If you were to, say, use a slim carry magwell, that would make the baseplate flush with the bottom of the magwell and grip, looking more organic and natural.
@ggrandcz
@ggrandcz 2 ай бұрын
BS, sharp edge of magwel will print even more because it is wider than gun\grip\baseplate.

I have found the best thing to do is to get a Vickers grip plug tool. It covers that back corner of the mag, making it a smooth transition, and without increasing the profile of a the gun the way a mag well would.

Weight matters a lot. I can conceal a 1911, but it's so heavy it's pulling my pants down all the time. 30 ounces is about my limit so I'm not constantly pulling my pants up and don't have to keep my belt super tight. I have a laundry basket full of holsters, most of them suck... it's not like you can try before you buy. Sometimes less is more... the simpler the better.

It is what makes microcompacts the best carry for concealability. Roughly 3-3.5" barrel, 1" thick and up to 4.5" grip to slide height. They will disappear with loose clothing even OWB. I believe the hellcat (not pro) is the shortest grip length while maintaining 10 rounds in a flush mag and the extended mag will give you enough room for a full 4 finger grip while being the same height as a shield plus with a flush mag.

I'm not particularly large but I am 6 ft tall and about 175 lb. I at one time carried a Walther PPKs. Since I went from a revolver as my primary gun for years, because I used to carry a 4-inch 357 for an everyday carry gun. I only carried the Walther when I was in a very particular set of clothes. When I finally went to a semi-auto. I carried a full size witness in 40 Smith. Because it was the best caliber for it's delivered energy and the largest permanent wound cavity. And still is by far than 9 mm. And I wore clothes that would keep it concealed. I have since went to having a very number of firearms and usually they are a 1911 full size. A 1911 Commander. And a P35 Browning. The only 9 mm I own, however, with the caveat it is the most accurate 9 mm I have ever witnessed in my life. I always carry it with a 15 round magazine and I have with me a 20 and the original 13 round. And I like to load it with 125 grain Speer Gold Dot plus P or plus P plus. Hi Carrie plenty of extra ammo because it's 9mm and if you're alone when you get into a gunfight you're going to need every round. With a 40 Smith you don't have to worry so much because if you will take the time to get what you're shooting at you will hit with a almost twice the efficacy of the best 9mm. I don't care what you think about the FBI tests. The reality of delivered energy is not with the FBI is telling you. The problem I see with this video is that there is a protrusion on every firearm he's showing. And it sets right where your hand has to go to apply a proper grip on the slide for a clearance drill. If you're in an Engaged gunfight you do not need an optic on your firearm. If you can see the target well enough to put the optic in between you and that Target you can hit it with the iron sights. If you even use them. If you haven't been practicing enough to make the shooting intrinsic to your movement. You're in trouble already. But hanging that garbage on a firearm is a fad. But I've only been teaching this since 1970, so have at it guys. Just so you know my 4 inch .357 was shooting 4-in groups at 100 yards with competent defensive ammo. And that was in double action.
