Matt: LONG time 'lurker', but I mostly view content when I'm not logged in, and therefore haven't subscribed. I'm finally subscribed now (sorry for the long delay, after around 2+ years!). Great content, as always. I always appreciate your transparency, your willingness to help others (and to learn from others), your positivity, and your determination. Never lose any of those components, as they are key to success! Great to see Courtney come out of her shell a few videos back. She's always come across on video as quiet and shy (fair enough, the camera isn't for everyone), so it was great to hear more from her, and has been great to see her Ebay journey evolve. Top girl. 👍 Looking forward to your future content, and to seeing you and Courtney smash it out the park! 👍

Great video looking forward to the rest of the series. Yes it is hard to find items in op shops, I watch marketplace for bargains. So many op shops in my area are now selling brand new items. Tall boys $599, bedsides $199, candles, cushions, clocks, sofas. I don’t bother going to them as much as I used to, it’s not the same.

Opshops used to be about selling donated good cheaply to help battlers in need. Now the majority, particularly those run by large organisations, are all about big profits tonraise money for the organisation. A friend of mine works for an opshop run by one of the largest organisations. She is one of 4 staff who are paid $45 an hour!!!

Thrifting is getting a lot tougher, with more people operating in that space now - not just younger folk, but older +60s as well (trust me... I've spotted them out there!). On top of that, prices are going through the roof, with one op-shop I visited last week charging over what some eBay comps were listed - that was across multiple categories. I even had one store do their comp on eBay while I was there waiting for a price. The problem is that they often use the highest listed price and say "Oh... this is selling for $XX on eBay". No, folks... no it's not. I've never seen an op-shop check the 'sold' prices, and they don't realise that the highest listed price might just be someone throwing something against a wall to see if it sticks. On top of that, they are getting the items for free + many have 'charity' or 'tax free' status. I totally understand that they have to pay rent, electricity, heating etc, but come on... you're not an eBay store + you are able to claim exemptions or discounts. Subsequently, many items simply just sit there for weeks, not turning over, and not doing the store or charity any favours. It's getting tough out there!

I agree with the second half of your comment, but not sure what you mean about the "60+ people in the space"? What does how old a person is, have to do with opshopping/thrifting? Sounds like some strange species that you've "spotted out there". Many resellers are into their 70s and maybe even older and love what they do. Just because the number of candles on the cake gets higher, doesn't mean your brain or ability stops working. Until such time we just carry on, keep occupied, and interested in life. I'm 77. I love doing eBay and hearing that little kerching every so often. 😊😊

It's really annoying how expensive Opshops are getting now. My opinion is - they get it for free, it's better to sell thru items fast putting reasonable prices on them in the first place, instead of putting high prices, having things just sit there, gathering dust and then eventually marking them down anyway. They've lost the plot!
