Growing up in England in the 60s, we pioneered a revolution in Music with the Seekers, Cliff Richards and the Shadows, Lulu and the lovers, Herman and the Hermits, the Animals, the Hollies, and dozens of others, less famous than the Beatles, and Stones. Life was great and much less complicated than today. That's why I think back to the 60s as the happiest years of my life. Thanks for the post.

Yes, that's true, but the reverse is true also: In the Seekers, Judith Durham found the perfect setting for her jewel-like voice. As prodigiously great as her talent was, she never discovered another home in which her talents could shine so brightly. It happens that way sometimes in music; a great and original artist sounds his/her best only with a specific group, producer or songwriter. How fortunate all of us are that they met and performed together so well for as long as they did.

This song was written by Tom Springfield, who also wrote "I'll Never Find Another You" for the Seekers. Tom is the brother of pop legend, Dusty Springfield. He and Dusty were the core of the pop group, the Springfields, which enjoyed modest success between 1960 and 1963. Tom also wrote "Georgy Girl" in collaboration with Jim Dale, which the Seekers sang for the movie of the same name, catapulting the group into the rarified air of super-stardom, and he wrote the lyrics for "The Carnival is Over," which sold over a million copies.

So very true. I am only 43 but have lived enough to see what we have come from to now. Times may have been tough. Mum never had much money, but she had her dignity and we were thankful for what we had. Now everything is instant gratification, and this generation seems to have no respect for anything, including their brothers and sisters and themselves. Everything is throw away, including babies. I shudder to think that these people will one day be our lawyers, doctors, teachers, judges and leaders.

I like it, no dispute there. But not everyone has the same taste in music. I can't stand this "Thumping" stuff they have today the young kids call music. It's their thing. (It will make a lot of audiologist happy in a few years as their hearing fades!) I would imagine my grandparents wouldn't have liked this type of music. To each their own!

@maxwellfan55
@maxwellfan55 4 жыл бұрын
@@ronmorrissey8575 No. One is 6 string the other a 12 string. The Seekers acoustic guitar combinations were invariably 6 string/12 string, 6 string/6 string, 12 string/banjo (maybe sometimes 6 string/banjo). Always with accompanying upright bass, Judith on lead vocal and all three guys singing effortless 3-part harmony.
