I bought the Defiant solar powered light, had to have it charge for five days only to find it inoperable. Brought it back to the store and purchased the battery operated variety. Works very good but a bit too sensitive to motion. It would go off every time a car passed by. I was able to reduce the sensitivity by applying a strip of black tape to the sensor where it faced the road.

Ross Thank You. Just an update i just replaced the batteries. With a week of clouds the battery wasn't charged and the back up batteries stopped working i checked i had one battery that was dead so they lasted about 6 months. i replaced the one dead battery and its up and working again. Plus with sunny weather the battery is back working with a full charge.

I put a motion light that's only solar powered from Home Depot on my garage that doesn't have electricity and it's been working through two winters so far. It's the $45 one at Home Depot. I have it mounted where the light doesn't get wet in rain so I'm sure that helps.

Got one, then ordered three more . The dogs keep setting them off , but who would want to go to in light yard with dogs in it. ? They have lasted the hot plastic scorching weather & the summertime downpours here in 305 for a year and a half and still look & work like new.
@TheShackHome6 жыл бұрын
The dogs come in at night, my wife not my choice, plus i relocated the light to the other side and it works better, just during winter it doesn't get much sun light to charge till spring. Its been up now year and a half and no problem. Good to hear with the humidity in Florida it doesn't bother them. Thank you David for the comment and for viewing

question... the light work with out battery? cuz í buy one and i install but it doest turn on ? and the solar panel is in good pocition i dont know how fix it cuz í put the test mode and then turn on but went i put the time it dosent work.....
@TheShackHome7 жыл бұрын
Edgar The rechargeable battery need a full sun and a full day to charge. Just make sure the solar panel is located facing where it gets most exposure to the sun. the added backup batteries help on cloudy days when there is not enough sun to charge the battery. If it comes on when you switch to test mode it should work once it detects motion. Make sure there is nothing blocking the motion sensor. SO let it get a full charge and once it's dark walk pass the light and see if you can get it to detect you. If not you may have a bad sensor. Electronics are not 100% every time.

I read the manual on these lights in regards to how to set the parameters, and it says to put the light in the test mode, then walk in front of the light in a stager position then stop when the light comes on then repeat the same steps again when the light goes off, we'll I tried that many times and it did not work. I was wondering could you please help me with this because my light is picking up the traffic in the street and I am hoping to adjust the parameters to fix the problem, thank you.

Ricky my apologizes i have been really bust. My light clicks on about 20-25' perfect for my needs. I was really surprised they didn't have ant setting on the light like most for motion detection, but it works for me. I would contact the manufacture and talk to them for a solution. Sorry sir this i don't know.

I bought this same exact model and it sucks unless you mount the solar panel right next to the light. If you plan on mounting the solar panel more than 4ft away from the light forget about it. The panel is too small and therefore doesn't generate enough power to keep the light charged so the light just feeds off the backup battery until there's no more juice left in them and the light dies. Don't want to keep going through batteries so now I have to buy a second panel and add it to the existing one in order to make it work.
@TheShackHome7 жыл бұрын
in4thewin i might agree with you. So far this has worked great but now that fall is fast approaching i have noticed that the light doesn't charge as well. i believe though it is due to sun angle where i have the panel mounted the sun doesn't seem to catch it all day so that much i agree the panel should be larger. This has worked well all summer although having shorter days i have noticed a lack of back up power even though my panel is about 6 plus feet away from the light just not large enough for shorter days and less intense rays during the day. Good Point
@in4thewin7297 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I had the same problem. The light fixture itself is great. It's the panel that's the problem. Decent quality, but unfortunately too small. Four feet was a bit of an exaggeration. It was actually a little over twice that distance, but still. I had it mounted directly to the fascia (not under eave) and positioned in the front left corner of my house facing East. I also live in Florida where UV index is usually quite high. Seems I have no choice now but to mount it at the back of my roof (about 30ft from light) so will definitely need a bigger panel. I'm thinking of ordering the Eco-Worthy 10 watt panel. It has an aluminum frame so would probably look good mounted where my pool enclosure & roof are joined.
@TheShackHome7 жыл бұрын
If that works let us know and where you picked it up from. Might be something to look into. Does it plug into the light with the same adapter.
@in4thewin7297 жыл бұрын
You can find them on fleabay or amazon. They have both 5 and 10 watt panels. The light is 7 watts so you'll likely want to get the 5 watt panel, unless you plan on mounting it at a distance like I am. You'll lose power depending on how long you're wire run is so keep that in mind. You can utilize the existing panel and connect it with the 5 watt panel in parallel in you wish. I already bought the wire needed from Home depot. I forget what gauge it is, but it's pretty thin stuff and the insulation on the wire is red & white. You can find it in the electrical section on spools where they cut for you. Yes, the adapter will still plug in the same way, but you'll need to cut off the connector part of the wire so you can splice in the added wire. Just make sure you give yourself some slack at connector end in case you need to re-splice it. Also, I suggest using heat shrink barrel connectors to keep any moisture from corroding you're connections. You can find them at HD too. They're the smallest ones they sell and they're red. Oh, and last but not least. If you do decide to do this, you will obviously be voiding any warranty you may have on the light so keep that in mind as well. Good Luck.

Hey man! As per the manual, the blinking light is a sign of low backup battery (which u inserted). However, i havnt changed the batteries in last 3 years and the lights are working perfectly fine..do u know what does those red blinking lights really define? Btw, my personal take on these lights - they are awesome! Just serves the purpose right if installed at the right place!

I brought 6 of those lights and every so often I put a battery tester to the batteries and I find that one battery in every light keeps going dead, why is that?
@rickymorris66947 жыл бұрын
I brought six of these lights five months ago and sorry to say none of them are working, I live near Chicago Illinois so we get a lot of sun here winter and summer but still no luck, I did everything I could do far ass leaving the lights off for a week to charge the internal battery to buying a battery charger but when I charge the c batteries I get about the lights to work for a week or so then the lights are dead again, I also brought a battery tester and it seems just one battery in every light keeps going dead and all of my Sola panels are mounted very good towards the sun light, if anyone have any ideals what else I can do besides tossing them in the garbage can please let me no.

I couldn't find that particular light at home Depot but my question to you is you mentioned it comes with back up battery can you tell me about that and does it give more running time
@TheShackHome7 жыл бұрын
ricky if you put this number (206795128) in the search bar on the home depot website it will take you to this very light. It might be an on line only item.The battery back up is a Lithium ion battery that's included. with full sunshine it will fully chard and have a brighter light. with cloudy days and no sunshine the 3 C batteries you install, I'd recommend rechargeable s, it will still light but with a lesser tensity. Run time depends on the setting. You set the delay from 5 seconds to 5 minutes. It only comes on when motion is detected. I notice mine turning on when my dogs walk by it.

Shouldn't you be using rechargeables?? I wouldn't use duricells for a solar recharger
@TheShackHome8 жыл бұрын
John that a good idea but these were the only ones I had at time of the video. When they do go out ill replace them with rechargeable. I need a few more for my solar path lights so ill be going through the property and replacing all dead batteries. Thank you for viewing and the note I forgot to mention.
@exgenica4 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old comment, but it needs clarification. The batteries John Lucero is talking about are the BACKUP batteries. They do NOT get recharged by the solar panel. They are intended to power the unit when "normal" charging of the primary battery/cell (lithium cell) is decreased by clouds or other factors which means the primary rechargeable battery did not get a full charge during the preceding day or days. Using alkaline cells for the backup batteries (like Duracell although I do not recommend that brand) is intended to provide as long backup power as possible. Alkalines typically provide much more mAh than rechargeable NiMH or NiCd cells. In some of these light designs, they also reduce the brightness of the LEDs to help make the backup batteries last longer as well. For example, one Defiant model reduces the LED output from 600 Lumens to 200 Lumens when it is running on the BACKUP batteries (see Defiant Model # DFI-7148). You COULD use rechargeables for backup batteries, but understand they are NOT recharged by trhe solar panel and you have to recharge them separately from the unit using a separate battery charger designed for the type of rechargeable battery you are using.
